The recruiters track draft classes 2-3 years ahead and ive been talking to people in recruiting circles who were saying this (that this year's crop is a very shallow pool and next year's has a lot more quality and depth) 12 months ago. Some things can change with individual names but the overall quality of the pool can be predicted ahead of time.
Agreed.Except that we've continually been regenerating our list over the past decade, and that hitting the trade table isn't the only means of doing just that.
Besides, not bringing in 3 or 4 players via trade isn't a sign of sitting on our hands. There's been noise all year around players of interest, approaches that have been made it - if a player decides to stay at their current club or prefers a team other than Geelong, so be it but that doesn't mean we're sitting on our hands
Then there's consideration of the players freely available - just because someone is looking for a new home doesn't mean they're the best fit for the club, so bringing them in as a means of being seen to do something isn't necessarily the smartest option
And while we may lack the top end draft picks that North has, we will still have sufficient picks to cover the open spots on the list - and as we've seen over the years, those later picks tend to go pretty well for us
Agreed.
The less brought in, the more trust and opportunities that go to Bruhn, Bowes, Clark, Knevitt, Dempsey, Mullin and Clohesy. Targets identified would have to be a serious step above where the club rates these players potential for 2024/2025. Maybe the club would rather gamble on one or two of these breaking out like Holmes and SDK in 2022. If the best aren't available, then why bother with the alternative?

Yeh, but you don’t read it every year from the same person. Happy to back PO in with his comment.Every goddam year I read this
Agreed.

How thin is this years draft? Well, a guy not good enough to play for Vic Country at all this year, went to the state combine not the national one, is at pick 28 in Waterworths power rankings for fox footy and considered an outside chance at the first round.

Also from the July rankings to now Collard went from 30 to 18. Schoenmaker from outside 30 to 20. Windsor from outside 30 to 16. Leake from outside 30 to 15. Mitch Edwards went from 13 to 29.
According to our 'ITK' posters on our board sounds like a trade for pick 8 going down tomorrow or the day after involving our 2024 F1. Super keen on Caddy supposedly.
We split our first in the Fisher trade to 22 and 25. We could also finish 7-8th and it ends up pick 11-12. Depends on how the Cats rate our chancesSounds like crap. Your 2024 F1 could be 18. Even with your first this year it’s no where near enough. We’d be getting far better offers than that.

Yeah Stevens has attributes and sounds like he was OK at the combine but he does look slow to the eye. Can definitely see him sliding, but then again, to slide you have to be overtaken by a player. Who is overtaking him? After the first 10 picks, it becomes a lottery. Leake I reckon will go shortly after but there will be some surprises.
My bet is that George Stevens will slide. Possibly into the 40’s. Reckon Hastie will go before him.
Would be a pretty big gamble. Not one I would take personallyWe split our first in the Fisher trade to 22 and 25. We could also finish 7-8th and it ends up pick 11-12. Depends on how the Cats rate our chances
Just passing on what we've been told by 3 of our more reliable posters. What a trade looks like I have no idea.Well where are you getting the draft collateral to get close to a trade for us to consider?

Can only assume Geelong's openness to trading pick 8 would be because they expect Sanders to be gone before then who's long been rumoured to be a target
I'd take that gamble, Pick 8 for their future first and and their pick 22. If they're the ones initiating it then also their pick 26 for a future 3rd
No chance thats an awful deal for us.
Someone like adel say 14 and a future 1st would be better for starters we will get better offers.
I also dont think we will trade 8 until draft night anyway.
