interesting about Oliver. These types of reports are usually fatal for player - club relationship. My money would be on him heading out the door. Cats might enquire, but the price would be astronomical, both contract and trade demand. Which is unrealistic considering the contract size. You would blow up list mgmt for a key fwd of his caliber, but not a midfielder, especially one who is 27 next year and contracted till his mid 30s for premium dollar.
My read is we are upto necks in Bailey Smith and Smith alone.

That's all I'm hearing as well. Also that Joel may have played a role here and has worked a bit in years gone by with the player.

Nothing from Connors or Bailey Smith in recent times after the original dead bat responses. The club playing it's cards very close to its chest. Mackie has plenty of rat cunning and he's learned the art of list management and player trades from the very best. He had a healthy ego when he played and I suspect he'll want to stamp himself again this year after a solid haul in last years trade period with Bowes / pick 7 / Ollie Henry / and Bruhn.

I'd take Smith over Oliver... mainly due to age.

Oliver is clearly a beast but something real sus has been going on with him all year... For him to be potentially available is a massive red flag.

But if Smith truly wants out and the Dogs are not willing to trade him for #7 plus change then they can be told that they run the risk of getting less next year... Especially since they will be trying to lock in English, Naughton & JUH on what will surely be huge contracts.

Can also see us legitimately bidding on Croft... if he ends up going the FS route.

If our first rounder next year is #11... do the Dogs say no to that?
They can play hardball all they like but at the end of the day, I can't see how they can let him go for nothing and not take #11 or something like that.

Ideally they just get the trade done now (all assuming Smith wants out).

Smith's trade return for them is likely to be more right now than next year.

Premiership. Tick

All he may want is love and connection.
Clarko would LOVE him at NM.
He may want Mitchell/Hawks.
Who knows how a player thinks.
NO WAY can any of us put ourselves in his position.
DWAYNE has certainly opened up the Oliver discussion just now after an hour with him on GF day.

I agree we are all different. Would he want the bug under the spyglass of Collingwood conversely would he want a smaller club after Melb .. perhaps big game and big club of collingwood would appeal? Perhaps he wants out of the hot house of melb and Gold Coast would appeal?

I just cant see him picking as his preferred destination a club who's is in Norths position compared to many others. Perhaps in two years time ..when all these kids have more games clocked up.

Well think we can say goodbye to any chance of Bailey Smith, if Hawks are putting Pick 3 on the table for him. If as reported Bailey is interested in both clubs, Dogs will basically say 'you wanna go, then you're going to the Hawks instead of the Cats - as their offer is much better.'

Only way we'd be a chance is if Bailey specifically wants us instead of Hawthorn - which I honestly really don't know if that would be the case.

How are we going to get all of Smith, Wines and Harmes done?

Fit and firing, that's an off-season that would rocket us back into the top 4, but it's going to be expensive.

Conway won the hit outs but lets not pretend that English and Lobb didn't smash him around the ground (Conway 6 disposals, English 18 disposals 2 goals/Lobb 16 disposals 3 goals).

No shame in that, English is one of the best 3 rucks in the league and Lobb is decent when he is fit and Conway was playing his first game. He won the hit outs but Lobb and English were in the top 10 on the field and Conway would be in our bottom 5 for the match.

I think its silly to expect a 20 year old to carry the ruck, which is why I hope we get another option because if Stanley gets injured again we are totally boned.
Conway gets games, we still won't see him at his best until he is 23/24 give or take.

Apparently they've using pick 3 to try and get pick #1

Best is to feel we have no hope and see how it pans out.
=We have very little to offer or trade with

I could imagine the type of phone calls we would be taking if we hold P7 and on draft night ... its P7's turn and Sanders and Caddy are still available . If Melb does dump Oliver then they probably go Sanders ....

but it seems like in draft we will be sitting pretty for some offers .... and of course we will might bid on Croft.

See above from Cats09 - if they want Pick 1 they're not getting Smith.

I would also say if that were the case, then they're not exactly committed to getting him either.

Honestly, who knows, haha. Will be good when this 2 and a half weeks is up and we know where everything stands.

If they have a chance of getting pick one and Harley Reid by attaching pick 3, then I think that would have to be hawks preference over handing Bulldogs pick 3 for Smith?

Wouldn't read too much into Smith growing up a Hawthorn supporter. That stuff sounds romantic but it will be overshadowed by which club he thinks he can develop and grow more at than another. is he going to leave the Dogs and potentially sit at the Hawks and not really be a chance to contend in the next 3-5 years?
