That makes sense he’s running is better than other talls though because he’s more a midfielder size.
Maybe he grows a few cms and can play at JUH or he builds on his running to develop into a mid.

I don't rate him. I think he'll fall past 15.

Conway is a ripper. He'll be the best ruckman in the comp in 3 years.

The Dogs have a surplus of tall forwards plus they have another Darcy coming. I fully expect JUH to be in Geelong colours one day.

As an aside, I was speaking to Steven King's uncle today and he's going to ring him and find out If a move back home is on the cards.

Yeah I hope he doesn’t end up with us, would love a key forward to develop before hawkins retires. But I don’t think caddy is that, if we keep pick 7 I hope we pick the best available player and I hope they’re a mid or running defender.

If the elite group are gone, trading back makes more sense IMO.

With the Sav trade, it should be giving us 3 picks within 30 that would allow us to get both those positions you mention.

Take a mid, running half back flanker, and key defender and we're looking pretty set with our developing group.

If saints and Essendon concocted a deal for Gresham and Shiel so that saints get 20 (band 2) as compo for Gresham and passed that to Dons for Shiel
Essendon could then send zerk and 20 to port for Duursma
Port could then send 20 to cats for Sav and a f4

They'll firesale Duursma. Bombers don't need to demand so high on their part of the trade, because it's Port that wants BZT.

We will be looking at Bombers Pick 28 imho.

Ceglar was interviewed on trade radio yesterday, interesting bit that caught my attention was when he was asked about Conway. Who seems to be getting a lot of attention on there probably a lot to do with Jenkins influence. He was full of praise for Conway, said he and Stanley were taken back by some of his training against them.
When he was asked if he is ready to be the main ruck he said no, he’s missed a lot of footy and it’s really hard generally for rucks to play each week at his age and development. Said the club should be looking to get up to 10 games from him next year. And that geelong are great at managing players and confident they’ll do that with him.

That’s in line with my thoughts hopefully he had a full season next year with a number of afl games but highly unlikely he can play every week.

I’m still hopeful we are going to add another ruck although comments from Mackie don’t give me much hope. I’m not concerned with a combo of Stanley, Blicavs and Conway. But an injury and we’re in big trouble and two of those guys have been consistently injured.

Just seems to be as straight forward as Scott doesn’t rate pure rucks very highly… has very little interest in hitouts.

He looks for ruckman who are competent at other aspects of footy.

The mediocre hitout competitive journeyman doesn’t seem to appeal much to Scott.

Goes back to a stat Buckley posted a while about how genuinely useless hitouts really are…

The top 10 teams for hit outs to advantage this year had like 3 finals sides in it, GWS, Carlton, and Melbourne.

It's a nice to have sure but don't go out of your way for it

I play lawn bowls with his uncle. I also played today with another former cat. Frank Pomeroy.

I remember seeing Frank play, he's doing pretty well to still be playing bowls at his age

I just don’t think they’ve been willing to pay what it costs to get one of the top rucks and if not one of them then yes agree that’s the coaches view.
We did try to recruit Grundy and Darcy plus Conway is that type of player.
I think Scott would love an elite ruck but if they’re not at that level would rather someone who can do something else rather than be ok across the skills.

Scott has developed very specific tactics around the ruck contests.
Developing Hawkins ruck skills to use in the forward line, the major thing is having blicavs in the team. Originally it was tactics with him of third man up then working in tandem with Stanley.
The blicavs, Stanley, Hawkins ruck combo was very effective with each having specific roles in the ruck and in their area of the ground.
Without the access and success of Blicavs we might have seen some different ruck options used over the years.

Plus we have always had some back up ruck options we’ve tried the ones that have failed have mostly been through injury.

Developed relationships at the club when he was part of the academy.

Didn't care for the Bulldogs when drafted just didn't want to go interstate

Jack was a slider but that draft was absolutely packed with talls. Quite incredible really. Jack went at pick 13 and there were 8 talls picked ahead of him. Then you have players like Tippett, Goldstein, Hawkins F/S, Westhoff and Schofield taken late.

Ultimately it was an error for clubs overlooking Riewoldt for being "undersized" but if you want a key forward this year you don't have a lot of option but to roll the dice with Caddy. Where have all the talls gone?! Are they just trying and failing to turn them into Patrick Cripps at underage level instead and they never filter through to AFL level at all now?

Don't think they value ruck as a position highly enough to think about it that way

They should-they should look at how many times opposition rucks have been dominant against us in finals since 2011. Besides we are only talking about late picks or rookie spots its not like they will have to spend top 10 picks to address it.
