I think Pick 23 + an upgrade on our Pick 85 is definitely doable, but they will probably only offer pick 75 additional. Might improve that last pick by about 2 or 3 spots though on the night...

I wonder what Wilson's 20m sprint was? He looks pacey too, maybe not the fastest, but definitely not slow.

Is O'Driscoll an over-ager? Decent combine data for a 177cm outside mid. Footy stats are just okay I suppose.

ZZ has speed, agility and leap... I wonder what his endurance is like. Maybe he's more like a Paddy Ryder than a Blizcavs...

#2

Aiden O'Driscoll

Height: 175cm. ( I have seen other data saying 177cm... so .. sub 180)
Weight: 69kg
D.O.B: 22-07-2005

He reminds me of a power type of athlete ... 196cm at FB ...he would gain quickly on a lead, can leap high at the ball etc. The 2k time would be interesting but he has plenty to offer...

West Australian bolter blitzes draft combine

DRAFT COMBINEOctober 9, 2023

WEST Australian Zane Zakostelsky has dominated the 2023 AFL National Draft Combine, achieving top 10 results in four of the five events. A group of 61 prospects, all nominated by clubs, were put through their paces from Friday to Sunday in a range of physical tests.

Zakostelsky is a raw 196cm defender/ruck renowned for his athleticism, and topped the charts in this year’s standing vertical jump with a leap of 80cm. He placed sixth in the 20m sprint (2.954 seconds), fifth in the agility test (8.233 seconds), and sixth again in the running vertical leap (94cm).
The Claremont product was one of three West Australians to come out on top of a testing event. West Coast Next Generation Academy candidate Lance Collard lit up the agility test with a time of 8.157 seconds, while Aiden O’Driscoll won the 20m sprint (2.871 seconds).
O’Driscoll is the brother of current Fremantle-listed players Emma and Nathan. Elsewhere, Tarkyn O’Leary took out Friday’s 2km time trial with the second-fastest ever time. He completed the journey in 5:48, only bested by Harry Sharp‘s effort of 5:28 in 2020.
Murray Bushrangers midfielder Darcy Wilson placed second over 2km (5:52), joined by 202cm Gold Coast ruck Ethan Read on a podium of sub-six minute runners. Wilson also notched the best running vertical jump at an eye-watering 98cm.
Along with the boy’s National Combine testing at Margret Court Arena on Sunday, state combine nominees from Victoria, Tasmania, NSW-ACT, and Queensland also completed their testing, along with AFLW Draft Combine participants from Victoria and Tasmania.
Top results from the state combines and girl’s events will become available once events in South Australia and Western Australia are completed over the weekend.

Can honestly say that if Hawkins was to leave then they can kiss any culture thats been built goodbye, he's heart and soul Geelong who has played for peanuts compared to what he could have gotten, im sure he will be letting the club know that too, will be some very upset people.

I assume Hawkins is an unrestricted FA? What would for instance Melb offer him for 2 years? (Know this is a 0.5% chance of happening).

The way the Swans are going at it... post Biddy and watching what he did to them... Id have thought Harley and Gardner would have found a chunk to offer him something we could not get near.

Imagine Collingwood coming with a good offer.

I think Geelong know he is sort of pretty settled... have they abused this a bit ? Probably worth 500 at least on the open market for a side in contention

Can't see it happening, but stranger things have happened. We'd need to not want who is available at our pick, and be confident that who we did want would be there at Pick 13.

Pick 9 the only one I'd be really interested in, as Wilson instead of Caddy/O'Sullivan (if that was who was left), would be just as good. We miss out on all of them if we drop to 13.

It depnds on the deal for mine. If we trade from a theoretical 7 to 13 ...then the other picks best be good.

At 13 ... we are probably looking at Windsor or Reid or DeMattia ... or some one under rated. Windsor looks a bit under valued but I have not seen a lot of him.

Hawkins has played for unders, but he got to play in a successful organisation because of it. Hopefully it can be sorted but the club is allowed to actually negotiate with him and not bow to all demands just because he is a champion of the club.

Id be happy to move him into a ruck coaching role in 25 if he wants a bit of extra dollars....

Tell Johnson, Chappy and Kelly that, some of our all time greatest champions who all went on to play multiple years elsewhere after being shafted by GFC.

My personal assessment of our list only (understand opinions differ):

Based on this, I'd be looking for a KPD and ruckman in the trade period/free agency. A huge chunk of our list is in the midfield, at the draft (with later picks) we should look at beefing up KPD and forward stocks.
Pretty good assessment

The one that worries me is Stengle. No doubt A talent but wouldn’t want another season on 23 where he played at a B or C level. Ultimately one of the characteristics of being graded A is consistency I would assume.

If you look at your list it perfectly depicts the issue we have in the midfield. We need some of those B players to step up by 2025 into A players. Not impossible but usually A midfielders are around 25 before they get near their peak so we would have to have some peak ahead of time.

The other thing this highlights is that we need a high hit rates on the unknowns. I would think 4-5 of them are really good chances of becoming A/B players but we need all of those to actually develop and hope we get a bonus out of a few more?

What's the point of getting hysterical about hypotheticals that will quite obviously not happen?

It surprises me how naive some people are.

Here are former pick 21s that have had enough time in the system to establish themselves:

2018 - Ely Smith
2017 - Oscar Allen
2016 - Will Hayward
2015 - Ben McKay
2014 - Hugh Goddard
2013 - Jarman Impey
2012 - Nathan Hrovat
2011 - Josh Bootsma
2010 - Jed Lamb
2009 - Ryan Bastinac

l assume the club is waiting to see if we can grab a player of value before we commit to a dollar amount for Hawkins next deal
If we got Oliver or smith we may have needed to rejig Hawks offer so best to wait

I am sure ( hope) the club and Tom will know exactly were things are at and a deal will be done later in the trade period when everything is clear.

Josh Bootsma! Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long while

Kelly retired and would have stayed retired had Essendon not ****ed up and needed top up players, same as Stokes going to Essendon for a season

We made the right call with Chappy to stick with our 1-year offer - Essendon decided to up their offer by including a trigger option for a second season. Sure, Chappy reached that trigger point but he himself said he was playing injured & sore, not being completely honest so he'd reach that games trigger point. He was spent by his second season at Essendon

And well done to Steve on his time at GWS - maybe he gets those same opportunities if we re-signed him, or maybe not & the timing was right as we were trying to bring through younger players

I dunno, when we traded all those picks for #25 last year it seemed certain that we’d on trade it for O Henry but Collingwood said no and we had to scramble around to get it done.

In the end if Hawthorn didn’t let Mitchell go for a packet of chips the Ollie deal probably would have fallen over.

Thats a fair point but given port could have traded us the fr1 with say other futures going back to them i dont think they would have tradrd it unless we had agreed to take 22. I think it will take a few days as mackie will haggle but ultimately its a fair offer.

100 % and those were all the right calls for the reasons you stated.
For the same reason while id love hawkins to stay i wont pot the club if he doesnt.
Ultimately i think he will stay i doubt he goes to another club and we have the cap room to keep them.
