Carey was a great idea poorly executed.

It really didn't seem like we did our due diligence as he wasn't fit and wasn't interested.

I disagree, more being out of the game got to him at the start. By the time he started really getting in the groove, he injured himself on a goal post.

Right move, wrong player in the end.

The worst thing about this whole incident is it scared our administration of making these moves in the years after, blowing another set of chances.

Isn't that part of due diligence? We should have been much more thorough of testing to see if he was up to it.

The biggest debate that will rock this forum will be (if the alleged two first rounders goes ahead is)

2016 first and 2017 first vs Bryce Gibbs - Was it worth it?

A flag inside Gibbs time with us, says arguably yes.
Arguably? If we win a flag, the trade will 100% be worth it. Absolutely no question.

So if Gibbs is totally Mackay useless and we win the flag that year, trading our first rounders for two years straight is worth it?

Im not saying Gibbs will be, Im assuming worst case scenario. But let the flag settle before judging if the decision to get him over has been worth it.

With that analogy if we trade two first rounders for say any player X and we win the flag? Its worth it? Absolutely not, unless of course player X was an absolute key to our success.

Positive - looks like we are getting Gibbs

Positive - we are not losing a quality player , we are essentially keeping our team together ( I even hope we keep Lyons ) and are adding a quality player

Positive - Hamish and recruiters are involved and have given their thoughts on next years draft and what they can do ( with a pick downgrade or whatever)

Positive - there are ways to move up draft order

Gibbs manager Im sure will revise that contract.

If Gibbs comes to us for "only" $400-500k that would be a win for us too. I suggest he has leverage to ask for more.
Might add a year but i doubt the dollars will change greatly. Its why Gibbs is such a win other than the fact he is an A grade mid.

Last night on Fox it was Pelchen who stated he felt Gibbs was worth this years first and next years second. Tonight it was Niall who basically said the same thing. Our trade will revolve around picks and not players.

We just have to wait and see.

I don't think they were scared. The situation didn't really allow it.

By the end of 2004, the 90's premiership list looked shot and then Neil Craig took over and his philosophy was not to trade but to build from within.

Carey was the right move. The injury to carey, knee injury to Mark Stevens and then Trent Hentschel took any premiership chances away.

Are you suggesting that overpaying is the way to success?
Your take on this article?....What they say Lyons was on this year and a hint at what his management are looking at to re-sign?

Poles apart from what some on here were saying he was on this year though I don't recall it being linked to any articles etc to back it up?

At this stage it appears more likely Lyons will head to an interstate club rather than back home to Victoria via a trade, although remaining at the Crows is not out of the question.

It’s believed he was paid approximately $350,000 this year. However, averaging 22 disposals in 20 games for a team that made a semi-final has only strengthened his market value, something that is yet to be reflected in Adelaide’s offer.

One list manager at a rival club told foxfooty.com.au that the former Sandringham Dragon would command somewhere between $450,000 — 470,000 next season at a rival club.

I would be happy to give him 4 years on the same pay. It will then allow us to keep our gun players too without having Hartlett issues in two years time.

List analysis: What Crows should pay for Gibbs

BRYCE Gibbs could help turn the Crows into a flag contender. But what should they offer Carlton? List expert Gary Buckenara puts Adelaide under the microscope.

The former No. 1 pick wants to head home to Adelaide for personal reasons and that suits the Crows just fine because he’s exactly the type of player they need. He’s a classy outside midfielder who kicks goals and has a penetrating kick. He would be very damaging in the Adelaide team, delivering the ball inside 50 to that dangerous forward line.

Gibbs is worth a first-round pick, with Adelaide’s currently No. 13. The Crows need to work out whether Gibbs is better for them now or whether they’re happy to give that up despite the talent on offer in the first round of this year’s draft.

For me he’s probably not worth a first-round pick and a player. If a player was involved, then I would only be happy to give up a second-rounder plus the player.

Other players I’d like to mention are Tom Doedee, who I like as a potential key position player, and Harry Dear, who is Paul Dear’s son who I looked at while I was at Hawthorn as a father-son but we passed because he’s been quite injury-prone. We were willing to take him as a rookie but Adelaide grabbed him in the national draft. I hope he gets a run at it because he’s a potential key forward who’s very athletic and has a good leap.

We haven't won in 18 years. I don't care what series of events lead up to us winning another one, they will be worth it.

When we had to rely on McGregor to save us, in hindsight our flag chances were shot.

Our best bet in hindsight was Pavlich.

I reckon there is more to why he wants to come back. He doesn't sign for 5 and change his mind two years later. Wife struggling with ppd? Kid got issues? All reasons aflpa may want to step in. If someone has suggested that. .. I'm interested in why.

I wouldn't have thought it would have anything to do with the AFLPA. AFL mediation maybe, but even that's a toothless tiger. He's contracted, he can sit out, his rights are already enshrined, no one can force the Blues to accept a deal

$350,000 is absolutely the most I'd offer Lyons. A very reasonable offer. If he wants and can get more elsewhere, then bye bye.
