I feel like with some of these coaches the Covid years knocked the stuffing out of them, especially the periods of spending months on end interstate. Thought he was awesome in that 2020 doco, 3 flags in 4 years is something special. If he coaches on Sunday he deserves a full house imo.

the more I think of it, Its scary comparing Richmonds 2010-2023 coaching era under Damien Hardwick and Cats 2000-2010 era under Mark Bomber Thompson.

Cats slowly built up their list from 2000-05.

Richmond slowly built up the list in 2010-15.

Bomber Thompson was nearly sacked at the end of 2006.

Hardwick was nearly sacked at the end of 2016.

Cats broke a flag drought beating a team from SA (Port) in 2007

Richmond broke a flag drought beating a team from SA (Crows) in 2017.

Cats were favourites in 2008 after they won a drought breaking flag the previous year and choked

Richmond were favourites in 2018 after a drought breaking flag the prevoius year and choked

Cats won a 2nd flag in 3 years in 2009.

Richmond won a 2nd flag in 3 years in 2019.

There was an incredible meme doing the rounds about 5 years ago paralleling the two clubs. To the specifics of even bringing in Neil Balme the year before the first flag, reserve grade premierships etc.

I think it’s a smart decision. Why delay the inevitable - no coach survives a full rebuild.
Adam Simpson should do the same. But he won’t.

Simpson coaching this year out is fine. There is no use throwing a rookie coach out there this season to get thumped. They’d learn nothing,

I love how some of the Carlton supporters are salivating like a bloke dining on liver, fava beans and a nice Chianti. Why would anyone go to a club where clearly the players regularly don't respect the coach. Perhaps Mathison's liver is a better dish to savour.
