You've basically just backed my point - multiple stars. Hence my point of using our multiple top end picks in the draft. Not on one player.

No I didn't. You used Merrett at Essendon as a sample size, I brought up that he was alone at an unstable club. There's actually an argument to be made that If we didn't have Merrett we would've been way worse.

Secondly, not all picks become stars, especially in compromised drafts. Most #1 draft picks, especially stand-out ones, do.

We also don't have the time to wait 6 years (till the end of this year + 5 more) for a "maybe" star mid. Merrett has another few years at his peak in the middle, Caddy will be 3 years in next year, Z.Reid if he can stay on the park/Hayes will approach their prime years. Harley would fit this demographic the most.

If we are passing on him it's because of what the cost could be, not because Merrett was alone in the past.

What? We've lost more than we've won, even with Merrett.
He had 36 disposals and 4 goals against Adelaide, and we got rolled by 10 goals.

One player - as good as they are don't make a side. There is lots of examples of this.
Your argument of taking multiple picks to the draft has happened too. We got Cox, Perkins and Reid. I think you can say that Merret has had a bigger impact over the 3 games than the other 3 combined. Let's be honest, Merrett is the only reason we won vs Port. He is also the reason why the Adelaide loss wasn't 20. One very good player makes a difference.

It would have to be an absolute star, and at the right price. Reids not worth what we'd have to give up imo. I'd rather take my chances with 4 top end draft picks.

Nothing wrong with the effort of Merrett but he did go at under 50% by foot again and had double the turnovers that Shiel had. So while he was very good I would say there where several blokes who got us home on Thursday.

Also bringing up Perkins / Cox / Reid is a little redundant. It was the draft that had no under 18 footy in Victoria and the fact is Perkins would still be in the top 10 players of that draft albeit more 6th to 10th. Reid could make it as well. Different recruiting team and no Covid. I get that it could happen again (getting nothing not Covid and the perfect storm of an average draft) but I doubt it would be that bad again.

I can’t believe anyone would entertain giving up potentially 2 top 10 (maybe top 5) picks for this guy based on his current output.

I reckon we wait until the end of next season. If he’s still available and acting with a modicum of professionalism we can kick the tyres.

At this stage, I'd probably lean towards taking the risk. I'm inclined to agree with Wilson that the degree to which Reid is discussed is a little uncomfortable though, so I don't really want to say more about it than that.

I'm distracted by Nick Riewoldt’s cake face. Looks like a different person. Kane not much better, he’s got so much on his skin that he now needs eye makeup to offset it. Even Caro looks like she’s melting. Did Channel 7 forget to hire a half decent make up person with television experience?

By that time we're not in the box seat for him. Might not be so bad if he really does want to come to us. I get the sense at the moment, though, that anywhere in Victoria would be fine.

I think I’d be OK with us not being in the box seat.

He appears to be a wayward talent. I’m not going to assume that will be magically fixed with a geographic change.

Oh. Wilson is uncomfortable about how the industry is treating someone now is she?

I see.

Youd think that's dumb enough let alone the possibility it could be 3 top end first round picks.....

Only a dumb club would do that trade.

So, i guess welcome to Essendon Harley Reid!

It’s too early to tell, we don’t know how high we or Melbourne finish and we don’t know the Draper situation.

There is also a chance we could split one of our picks if low enough for two later picks in the first round and use 1 of them and another top end first or future, but we just don’t know our hand yet.

I’m not too concerned at what Harley is showing right now, think he will be one of the most dynamic mids in the comp for a long time. Dangerfield esque

Kids that can kick, run both ways, defend and mark overhead one on one

Assuming we have 2 picks in the top 10:

Willem Duursma - Gippsland Power 191cm utility - 36 touches on the weekend

Riley Onley- Murray Bushrangers - 194cm MID

Oliver Greeves - Eastern Ranges - 191cm MID - BOG for the Ranges on the weekend

TWO OF THESE PLEASE MATTY ROSA!!!!!!
