News Hawks are hurting, but they're not done yet - Rohan Connolly

Hawthorn's best requires an intensity and resilience that is hard to sustain for youngsters.

Of all that is written about the hawks re injuries and inability to refind 08 form, this is often overlooked.

You could see that on Sat night. The group was a little bit tired, and not quite up for it.

I am sure that we will see a turn around from last night's form in the next month.

You can't flog a dead horse.

Connolly presented the cold hard facts......70 inside 50's against means your midfield is struggling. Mitchell, the clearance specialist, is down and as soon as Hodge was rested we got smashed.
He should have added that we are around 10-25 since 08 and have only eclipsed Melb, Rich WC Nth and Freo just.
Our backline of 08 that won us a flag ie Hodge, croad, Brown, ladson, Gilham and Robbie filling the hole is nowhere near what we are fielding now and it shows, so Connolly is spot on there.
The next 4 weeks will make or break our season against teams we should beat. I hope things turn around and we do a Collingwood (1-3) in 09 and make a Prelim

Well, he's not wrong in anything he says...

Well, Connolly is adept at stating the bleeding obvious, then delivering us a quick jab to the solar plexus.

Like last year, the early part of 2010 for Hawthorn is turning into a holding mission. With that comes the obvious danger that things spin too far out of control for the Hawks to be able to salvage enough when their luck finally turns.
And right now, you could excuse Clarkson for wondering not just when, but if that is ever going to happen.

Judging by the mood of your recent posts (since Saturday night), I didn't think you were the chicken little type.

For a change a fairly good analysis of where we are at. I don't usually like Rohans journalism but this article is quite accurate.
We will learn a bit from the next 2 matches and whether we are a genuine top 8 team. Beyond that if we can get on a good run and win 5 or 6 in a row we might start thinking about top 4. Remember to go top 4 we'll need to win about 13 from the next 18, this is a tough ask.

We had Ladson, Birchall and Hodge in at one of our centre-bounces on Saturday night. We're going to always get obliterated when it comes to that.

We need to stop putting wingers and HBFs in the centre square or we'll get torched. What the point in Renouf winning the taps if we have guys like Birchall in there?
