South Freo,
Not too much has been said about it, but how good was Headland on the weekend. Is he going to have a big year or what! If he needed any encouragement to continue his sober ways, then that was it.

My favourite bit of the derby was his goal and celebration where he gave Selwood a little nudge. He didn't mean to run at him, but you could see the glee in his eyes when he noticed at the last second that Selwood was in front of him. Didn't he do it well. Too much contact and it would have just about been back page news, but it was done to perfection. Selwood looked like he was going to cry again. Made him look like a child. Hmmm...won't go there.

He's definitely going to be on my dream team after that performance. What a champ.

Im a massive Headland fan but while he played really well it was only the NAB cup. The main thing to take out of it was the way he went after the ball, that hit with Glass was top notch. If he can play with that intensity at the ball every week then he will have a very good season.

Certainly caught my eye on the weekend! ;)

How has his preseason been? With Hasleby out now one would think that hed play the majority of his gametime in the midfield.

Mark Johnson will be more likely to get run through the middle than Headland, due to Hasleby being more of an in and under player. They look to be settling Headland on a half forward flank this year, so we should see lots of goals from him. Perfect place for the guy.

Did anyone see Des 'body slam' Selwood on the bottom of the pack? I think it was in the 2nd quarter, he gave away a free kick for it, I missed it the first time I watched the game.

yeah, a replica of this thread appears every post-pre-season derby. "wow headland looks really fit! he's going to have a ripper year!!!"

i'd wait til the real stuff starts until i start judging what sort of season he's going to have.

No offence, but i think youre struggling if you need Mark Johnson to be a full time midfielder. What do you guys think about Michael Johnson though? Would he be a chance to get some time in the guts? Probably depends in his engine i guess...

I dont think anyone expects Mark Johnson to be a full time midfielder, but yes he will get stints in there this year.

Nope I cant see Michael Johnson getting to much of a run in the middle this year.

Headland hasn't had a drink for 6 months. This preseason he set himself to run with Josh Carr and obtain a similar fitness level.

He's always been polished, but never had the fitness base to run fulltime in the midfield.

He will be a fulltime midfielder this year. No doubts in my mind. I can't wait for the season to start for him to show his true value as our number 1 midfielder. By mid season he'll have the number 1 tag.

On Michael Johnson. He'll spend some time in the midfield. His endurance has also gone up another notch. But i dont think he'll be full time in the middle ala Headland.

With the AWFUL news on Paul's knee you would have to think that Des will be moving into the midfield for at least part of the game. The question remains, who are the youngsters that are going to give Des a breather?
I thought that Rhys Palmer had an excellent first hitout (South Africa didnt count.) and he looks like a natural to move right in.
What are the chances of Ryley Dunn making the step up? I know that he has had some back problems this year but he is the developed build that we will need in the guts to help move the ball out to Des.
Is there any news on his fitness or any other possible replacements in the Midfield?

PS I got Des @ $250.00-1 For the Brownlow Ka CHING!!!

Should of heard one particular typical moronic slime caller to barra and langdon on Monday evening. Had a cry about it saying it was diliberate and if it wasn;t he dosent know anything about football.......;)
Also vomited up soime venom on how Jeff shouln;t do the Jesus salute when he kicks a goal...
Those two cop a fair bit of shit from the blue 'n yella supporters, riddled with racial abuse... Those supporters hypocrasy and inability to see themselves for what they truely are still amuses me...

The Cuz Forever sign held up by a slimer was quite amusing... is it sad that some still not get it...:o:D

But Yeah Headland played very well. If he can continue that form all season we may still be able to cover the big hole left with Hasleby's injury.

Nice one Hoss. Lets hope that he comes in so that I can cover my wager on on Hasleby.:(

Good luck to the both of us and I am looking forward to splitting the difference with you 375-1 Each. Ka CHING!:p

What a coincidence.... I had a bet on Hase too. Got on him at $151.00 when he was training the house down. Des was straight down to about $100 on sportingbet after the Eagles game.

I've got a lot riding on Freo at $1.45 to make the eight....I think it's a fairly good bet.

I cracked up when the next caller, a Roos supporter, basically called the first guy a truckwit because it was obvious that Dessie didn't see Selwood. The 6PR crew didn't know whether to agree with the guy who was correct or agree with the eagles supporter.

Didn't see that. :D Gold!

Anyone who said that 12 months ago was correct because he did have a good season.

Nice try though loser.

Dessie has been training with the mids all summer and started Sunday's game onball. Aslong as he performs well in his new role we'll see plenty of him in the middle.

and now we have a long-term injury opening up a spot for him (altho i am in favour of waiting a while and seeing if his body can hold up first as chris smith seems to be pushing very hard for that spot also)

There doesn't seem to be any point in promoting a Rookie unless they are going to crack a spot in the best 22 for that week, and at the moment, none of themwould do that I think (assuming main season). We would cover Hasleby with fringe players from the senior list at this stage. Dwarf Johnson is still looking for a place in the 22, Gilmore is too, and the likes of O'Brien, Bradley etc. MacManus is still wanting to hang in there too. They may not play Hasleby's role specifically but can allow for a re-shuffle.

Dunn (and Foster) are still not training with the squad at all... there are some guys coming back from injury working on their own programmes (eg Blackie, Brock and Browney - very alliterate sounding trio there... note I said alliterate, not illiterate!), but there's been no sign of Dunn (or Foster) any time I've been there. :o

IP, Chris (or is it Brad??) Scott was on the radio tonight and said that Foster is suffering from a bulging disc - not sure when he's likely to be back, but hopefully not too long.
