I used to have the title 'Hentschel > B. Ebert' and a Port supporter laughed at it. Which is fine. One is just a kid from NT and the other the son of an SA legend, so genetically you'd think Ebert would be in front and my title was actually a little tongue-in-cheek anyway.

But the more I see Hentschel, the more I really believe Trent can actually be a better player. In today's game against Richmond, everytime he had the ball I would expect something special to happen and he NEVER disappointed me. This feeling of excitement about a player is something I haven't felt for a long time.

Hentschel is a very good player who will only get better.

Ebert....hes done ok in a forward pocket this year. He was playing as our no.1 small forward for half the year which he probably couldnt handle for too long. Would also help if he had at least some midfield gametime this year. He hasnt been given one minute in the midfield all year, which is pretty annoying considering hes meant to be our no.1 midfielder of the future.

Its splitting hairs mate. We are yet to see the best of both. I have watched both before their AFL debuts and both have great potential. I think people underrate how good Ebert can be. For a second forget that he is a son of a gun, he is a bloody good footballer. I am with Macca19 a bit on this. He should be given a bit more time in the midfield. The kid is a gun and by FAR the strongest overhead mark for his size and a fantastic, thumping left foot kick. Ebert will be a gun don't worry about that.

Comparing Ebert and Hentschel its like comparing apples and oranges. 2 completely different players and both fantastic prospects. The reason we get excited when Trent gets teh ball is because for a player of that height is VERY unusual to have the skills of a running player. Having those sort of evasive skills at 193 cm is pretty special. Also his kicking has improved out of sight. He was not a bad kick for goal but this year he has become and exceptional kick. He used to get more height than depth with his set shots, not he gets both.

I would love to have them both :D

Way to early to tell IMO, but one thing I can say with a certain degree of confidence is the Brett Ebert plays footy alot better than has old man commentates on it !

You cant compare them really, although they are both playing a loose forward and both doing extremely well, soon Hentschel will become a key forward while Ebert will be put in the midfield and Im sure both will excel.

I knew he could do it! Everyone near me was going "He won't kick it." so they stood up and went to eat. I yelled at them "He WILL! Just sit down and shut up!!!" So they still left. When they got back they were like "Oh, that Hentschel, I knew he'd kick it!"

What lousy supporters. They're old...

Correct.

I tell you what though, who'd have gambled on Officer Mahoney cutting Ebo's lunch?!... hmmm... there could be hope for Perrie yet. ;)

That bloke has been a DEADSET steal. Every collingwood (and a lot of other) supporters out there were laughing at Port for picking him up but hasn't he been a super pick up. He was fantastic against the doggies in Darwin.

A steal.

Your not wrong.

His first game was terrible. Had 0 touches, 0 marks and 1 free against!! But since then hes been outstanding.

Had a good game against Richmond, was the match winner against Geelong, played good games against Sydney, St Kilda, and Brisbane and great games against Carlton, Hawthorn, West Coast, Melbourne and the Bulldogs.

the best 'unknown' recruit of the year in my view.

Yeah, surprised the heck out of me as I thought he was a dud. Has been a real live-wire ... & makes up for RFK.

Was surprised why all others laughed at Port when Mahoney was picked up. IMO should have never left the AFL arena, he is not ur average midfielder IMO, he is bordering on quality player status. Was made all the more true when I saw him captain the VFL against the SANFL in 2002. He totally r*ped us, marked everything like Tredrea, tonnes of touches, goals, the lot.

Now look at him, in Ports best 22 and likely to stay there till he decides to retire.

Lets see how

1) He goes in finals

2) Whether the second year blues get him

I like it when players like him do well but he has to maintain it

Troy Wilson did quite well in his frist year. Where is he now?

Someone said he would be there till he retires. A huge stretch.

AFL football is far from predictable and has made gooses out of many (myself too many times to mention)

Eh? In Mahoney's case it would have to be a case of "sixth year blues."

As for the Troy Wilson ref, huh?! Yes Wilson made his AFL debut at a rather late age in 2001, but this is Mahoney's third tilt at the big league as a 25yo after debuting in 1997 as a 17/18yo.

Second year for Port. Not hard to work out what I meant.

Wilson was 28 Mahoney 25, both considered to be "mature" players by AFL standards.

Comparison is valid. My point is wait and see how he goes from here.

Hope he goes well but people are getting carried away, or is taht only wrong if its a Crows player and not one of your "beloved" Port boys??????????
