How many from your team can walk in to any best 23

Hawks would be (certain);
Barass
Sicily
Moore
Day
Newcombe
Battle

If the question is shoehorn all players into best 23, then the above I reckon all clubs would find a spot for the above

Maybe;
Watson
Amon
Weddle
Meek

This is quite silly..any one of the above would be certain starters in any other team if it was just them being transplanted in, butt maybe not as a collective.
Good list, but I would include Weddle over Battle as he can fit nearly anywhere in a side.

Really? You don't think most sides would discard their 23rd best player (usually a raw kid or generally poor player to fit Papley in?)

Remember you're not putting all of those players into another team at once, just individually.

I can't think of a single team that wouldn't find a spot for Papley on their bench. Same goes for Rowbottom and Lloyd. You'd have to have some crazy depth in your side where any of those guys have wouldn't be best 23
You're probably right, particularly with Paps and Rowbottom. Lloyd might be on the cusp.

Bontempelli
Darcy
Richards
Libba
Treloar
Weightman
Naughton
Dale
Lobb
Jones

All would comfortably walk into every teams best 22. If you disagree, feel free to point out which players and at which specific clubs and we can debate. Keep in mind, this is on most recent exposed form not taking into account current injuries.

It's maddening seeing posters list 3 to 4 players. There's 22 players in each side. Even the worst clubs would have 5 or 6 walk into every teams best 22.

Sorry but I'll stick with Xerri over Cameron thanks
See you would be wrong here. If Cameron was on North's list, he'd be playing every week as your key forward and backup ruck.

Who do you have playing that role at the moment? Jack Darling? It's clear Cameron would be getting a game.

I reckon for ruckman Xerri might be the one guy who can claim would walk into any side. Gawn and Melbourne is probably the only one that would be a question as he is their captain.

For other key positions its pretty tough but I'd not have that many more than:
  • J.Cameron
  • Hogan
  • Curnow
  • Treacy
  • Larkey
  • S.Taylor
  • H.Andrews
  • D.Moore (maybe)

Heeney
Chad
Gulden
Blakey
Jordon - because he's the best at what he does
James "Padlock" Jordan, my favourite player.

He's not getting a game at the Dees sorry- you don't need a tagger when BIG BULLS Petracca Viney Oliver are winning every contest.

Remember we ditched Bedford too, turns out he's a pretty handy tagger also.

From Geelong

Definately
Holmes
Cameron
Stewart

Maybe
Dangerfield
Smith
Stengle

Zach Guthrie is one of the best half back flankers going around today. Extremely underrated and would be a starter in just about every team.
Jack Henry is another underrated defender. Just imagine him beside Weitering or Andrews.

Holmes, Smith, Stengle, Cameron are certainly walk up starters at any club. The other is now Humphries. Again, no one really knows much of him. He's one of the most composed 21yr old's I have seen for a very long time.
Would fit in perfectly at Collingwood, Sydney, Carlton etc.

Marshall would get a gig at every club. While he isnt as good of a fwd as ruck, melb and north would find a way make him work with Gawn/Xerri if they him.
Disagree, the days of good teams taking two good primary ruckmen are gone. Second-stringers are now far more likely to be someone like MacLean, Blicavs, Mason Cox, Darcy, etc.

Jake Stringer went as a last-chance-saloon pickup to the only team left in the race for him at a pick in the fifties. He might not even make the first 22 at GWS.
Same was said of Hogan in here. Now people complain it’s another pick 1 we have.
And again, Stringer kicked quite a few goals last season.

Most clubs have at least six that walk into any other 22 in the league. There's no way that Smith, Stengle and Danger don't play at any other club in the league.

I'd add Gryan Miers to that. I don't think there's a team in the country that wouldn't take him.

While thats true is the broader sense, Marshall is a different case. He's one of the few rucks in the comp who has shown he can play as a 2nd ruck/fwd effectively. Collingwood may play Mason Cox but if they had a choice of Cox or Marshall, let's not pretend for 1 second that any competent coach would pick him ahead of Marshall.

Also, the two teams with better rucks have room in their forward line for him as a player so the playing of 2 premium rucks is less of an issue in this specific example.

I think people are confusing "most" best 23s with "any" best 23s. If adhering to team balance and actually having to displace a like for like player. There will be at least a couple of teams stacked in a various area of the ground, where a fair few players mentioned so far would not be walk up starters.

Freo have closer to 5 or 6 players than 10 or 11.
I know it’s an earlier post so apologies if already covered off on by others, but I think the interchange and sub creates another layer of complexity and nuance to this discussion.

For instance, North would take Xerri over Gawn in his position, undoubtedly. Straight away, you discount him from the criteria - except there are five bench spots and a number of forward spots that it’s hard to see Gawn not beating out at least some of those incumbents in, even if not his primary position. Surely Gawn as a reprieve ruckman and forward presence exceeds the value North get from Dyl Stephen’s or Darcy Tucker. Therefore, I think you’d fairly say Gawn still meets the criteria despite being beaten out of his preferred and primary position.

Sicily
Watson
Moore
Newcombe
Day
Barrass
Battle
Hardwick
Lewis (when fit)

I would think they would be able to slot into any team currently.
I would add Amon and Impey but i feel like some teams would choose their own half backs over them.

Neale
Dunkley
McCluggage
Cameron
Lohmann
Andrews
Wilmot
Doedee
Coleman
Zorko
Starcevich
WAshcroft
Rayner

Not far off:
Bailey
Payne
Lester
Fletcher
McKenna
Ah Chee
Berry
Sorry McKenna is absolutely far off. For starters, he wasn’t even in your own Round 1 best 23 until Cameron was a late out, and that was a 23 without two clear best team defenders in Doedee and Coleman already missing through injury. 😂

McKenna is great depth but nowhere near this conversation.
