Not trying to be negative but the truth is the truth.
After watching the first 5 and a half games of awfl it is blatantly obvious that the standard is poor.
Any under 14 boys game in the suburbs would be played with a higher standard.

What is just as awful is the refusal of the commentators to be critical of atrocious football.
One upside is how good will the real stuff look after watching 3 weeks of this.

Basically the same as any sport, the elite women are a shadow of the mens game.
These girl's really should have become tennis player's if they wanted to be overpaid for what they produce..

This may be very negative but i could seriously make an hour long benny hill clip just from what we've seen so far.

It's almost like they haven't had a elite professional competitiom before that includes girls from other sports moving across.

It doesn't need to be anything like the men's game - it needs to be its own product.

Im sure if the women had the same development structures in place and the years of training the guys get before making it to the AFL, then there would be a massive improvement.
Which they will now end up getting.
Things take time.
Hell week 2 has already seen an improvement in the quality i thought.

Women's sport will never ever be at a standard of the male product the women's 100 metre sprint Olympic final was won with 10.7 an Australian schoolboy ran 10.44 women's sport can't be compared on standards if you choose to watch you will need to accept it won't ever be great football standard

I look at the quality of players and teams in comparison for each other. It's a different competition and shouldn't be compared to the men's comp.

It is already apparent how some players read the game much better and have better skills so I appreciate those players for standing out.

Do you have the lotto numbers?

I do believe it can and will, with the right structures that are only now being put into place, become a high standard.

To say otherwise is being blind

The skills and decision making are lacking, but the girls really have a crack. The in tight contested stuff and tackling is very good I think. They have started this comp from scratch. Many of the girls have played little or no football. I think its important they get our support. The difference in 5 years time will be huge.

It's proven over all sports the fact an Australian schoolboy can run a faster time than an women's Olympic final says it all

If that is even true so what?

Im not comparing it to the mens. Im saying it can get to a high level of skill and quality with development and time.

The quality is pretty poor, but the bolded shows you had absolutely no intention of having a fair discussion on the topic.

Its not a great spectacle, but part of encouraging girls to take up football at a young age and to stick with it is for them to know that it can go somewhere as a career. Hence why having a league is necessary.

Men being stronger than women doesn't mean the quality is any different. The women won't be competing against the men.

The standard is about what I expected for a first-time semi-professional women's league.

If you were expecting the standards of a men's game you will have been hugely disappointed. But if you take it for what it is and be a little lenient on skill errors, the matches can be enjoyable

Not as poor as expected , given the circumstances (intermittent grass roots /junior careers , limited funding )

There has already been improvement from week 1-2 , and the best players are certainly up to the standard (we just need more of them, but give it some time )

As mentioned above , things will improve with time (as players become accustomed to professionalism , the playing pool widens and the grass roots structures expand ) .

More importantly , it will draw more people to our game

If you don't like it , don't watch it (you probably aren't the target market anyway)

I'm talking about a standard we even have a crack at the standard of some men's game, there's nothing wrong with being honest about the standard. If it's crap say it, doesn't mean you don't have to watch, the standard no doubt will get better but will never even get to say an amateur league standard. We can only compare standards with the same sport we can't compare it with anything else

People watch SANFL , VFL WAFL , NEAFL that's not AFL men's standard so yes we will watch lower standards it's just the women's league is really really low
