Unlike those left wing sooks who lose their minds over 2 year old photos because they have no intelligence they can’t see what’s actually happening...

It’s funny to see these comments when you consider there is a massive group of uneducated bogans doing the same over our great PM.
still living in victoria whiner? what a great place to be.

Victorian govt has agreed with Scomo, Fed ALP and the Greens so it sounds like common sense is prevailing in Vic as well with the quisling on sick leave. Wonder if Xi will respond in the dignified considered manner you would expect of a Chinese leader or like the petulant spoilt teenager bullies he and his cronies have been acting like in recent years which must be embarrassing for the general Chinese population who deserve so much better from their govt.

Vic gov ?, so Labor itself are agreeing with Scomo, how does that work.

I'm not buying the whole it does not matter that it's been canned notion, it was signed for a reason, any government whether it is here or any other state go after these things because they think it's a win for them. Pollies from either side are only really interested in self preservation and doing things that they think will make them look good. the worrying thing is the general public very rarely find out the devil in the detail for these sorts of things until it's to late, if nearly every party is saying this was not a good thing to be signed up to, then something is not quite right with what the defence of it not being a big deal being scrapped by labor supporters.

Maybe the current members of government still able to walk are happy to distance themselves from it, but when Dopey was asked about it last year when the Feds first put up the laws, he got very angry.

Jfyi a mou is normally a first step document. It's done to show intent and a non binding commitment. This is so both parties can have confidence to commit time and people to planning the next step (which is the binding agreements)

These projects we have little detail on, other than they will be around infrastructure (in particular export and logistics)

Without B&R I assume if we still want these projects to happen it will may mean finding a new funding source (which may be more expensive), or delaying over a longer time period.

Question - does this impact either countries economy at all?

If not, why would it anger Chyna?

If you know necromancy and how to resurrect her, you can ask her yourself.

What about the Chinese leased ports - surely this isn't in the nations interests? Oh whats that? a LNP govt gave it the tick.

What about the feds signing off on the Chinese buying our largest dairy producer - providing more jobs and benefits for the economy! oh whats that? theres been no jobs or benefit.

Remember kids. LNP deals with China = good. Labor deals with China = Chairman dan is lockdown Victoria so the Chinese can buy all the small businesses!!

While Morrison is examining Chinese infrastructure investments, why not take another look at the strategic Port of Darwin? The Liberals signed a 99-year lease when Morrison was treasurer. Liberal trade minister Andrew Robb later took a job with the same Chinese company.

Except the Federal Government didn't sign the deal, but hey never let facts get in the way of a good whinge!

wrong - the port sale, the farm sale, and the dairy sale would have all required federal FIRB sign off. They not only obtained this, but the libs endorsed the port of darwin sale as a great outcome for australia

Wrong - the FIRB didnt look at it as it wasnt required to at the time :)
" A 2016 Senate committee revealed that while the Foreign Investment Review Board had been contacted to look at the deal, it ultimately didn't formally investigate because, at the time, there was an exemption from scrutiny of a deal like this because it involved a private company and a state or territory government. "

Genuinely, WTF??? Ive been involved in projects worth a fraction of that, involving similar entity issues, that had to have it. mother ****er of all loopholes there (and no surprise govt exploited them)

In any case, its NT. As a territory they could have intervened if they chose to. Fact they cheerleadered the sale indicates they didnt give two ****s however.

Cant also forget allowing China to have water rights in this nation.

Worlds driest continent and we let the CCP have control some of the most precious resource (the seppos also have a fair share too, Need them to get bugger off as well)

Yep, I bet he's happy he slipped down the stairs ... can you imagine Credlin hammering him at a press conference (even the leftist MSM would probably hammer him).

Beijing Dan - Corrupt. Treasonous. Murderous. Inept. Just terrible ... the worst premier Victoria has seen.

We did watch Credlin “hammer” him with a nerf toy. Promised to show up every day and only appeared once.

Have you read the MOU? Can you explain why it isn’t in the national interest?

The yanks made it quite clear what they would do if China was allowed in. Yes it was under Trump but Biden on paper has a harder stance towards China.

I suspect there have been a lot of discussions between the Vic and Fed Govts and Vic will get some form of compo via infrastructure spending on a major project. Yanks still carry a ton of clout in the world, they appear to be on the way out but they are still very powerful.

Lot has changed since then. Take your pick:

1. The West is waking up to the danger of China, its human rights abuses, lack of freedom etc.

2. They are scared that China is taking over the world and assuming the mantle of the USA.

They will present number one as the reason but in reality its number two because that is what they fear and rightly so IMO. Just a matter of whether its too little too late.

Sorry but that's bullshit

China has been running camps in Xinjiang since 2014. Noone cared until two years ago, because muslims.

China has been aggressively claiming the SCS since 2010, established bases since 2013, lost the court case in 2016. Noone cared until a year ago because it was a shitfight. Taiwan claimed the entire SCS in 1999. Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Phillipines have all have actual conflicts with each other over bits and pieces of it. As long as world trade wasn't stopped, the rest of the world didn't give a ****.

As for HK, the assembly was never democratic, and noone cared. Hong Kongers didn't give a shit as long as Beijing let them make money. The world didn't give a shit as long as our property was not nationalised

What changed? Trump wanted a trade war to address the USA trade imbalance issues.

We were the only idiots to join in, which is baffling because we have a ****ing trade surplus.

I have zero issue with people protesting and fighting a lot of these things. Some on this board have been vocal about them for years. I have an issue with people who didn't care in 2016, but are in tears about this today.

Hence massive vote for them by illegal immigrants

WTF where did this come from?

Any evidence whatsoever for this claim?
1. How many illegal immigrants vote?
2. How has their voting pattern been determined?

Because if you can't answer these, then you should be banned. Sharing a dogshit opinion is one thing; spreading false information for malicious purposes is quite another.

Andy posted the link, but I also remember an interview with ScoMo recently where he said they were never told of it.

This is one of the deals they identified when the legislation was being put through, Victoria’s BRI deal is a lot easier to cancel but NT might want their $500 million if the Feds cancel this one as well.

Squib, you think a territory which is still under control of the federal govt can sell a major port and customs gateway to our nation, and not know about it?

I think we now know why you can't get a job picking fruit in nsw

Because why work outdoors and do hard work when I get paid to sit on my ass and do nothing?

Neddy old chap, the last bolded bit is pretty much what I was saying. Its convenient to use it now because they have other issues. Its all BS.

How about caring about China's behaviour in Xinjiang, but supplying bombs to the Saudis for their oppressive wars as well as dozens of other awful regimes who practice slavery (Uzbekistan, Saudi, Qatar)? Why is China's poor human rights record now such an issue? Because they're economically challenging the US.

There are two things you can't do that the US will come at you for. Threaten them economically and with-hold oil from their oil companies. Everything else is fair-game.

How the Australian Govt cares so much about starting a fight with China because the Yanks want us to is beyond me. It's stupid. Plenty of other countries we do business with who do terrible things we never condemn.

Chinese companies doing business here isn't that much different to the US companies who dominate the Engineering market.

John Holland is Chinese-owned and they do work for the Commonwealth and every state Government. They're one of two companies left in the bidding for North East Link.
