....... nutter
bitching and moaning about lack of elective surgery. Fails to understand there are no forking nurses to man beds to do elective surgery
wants more resources to nurse on call - again that pulls nurses from frontline care
stupid people.

its not a matthew guy thing alone btw - have heard that my hospital executive is pitching to get extra ED space. The problem is that we don't have the nurses to safely staff the cubicles we have and many times during omicron (well actually since mid Vic Delta) we have closed ED cubicles. Perhaps if they spent the money and effort trying to keep/ get nurses rather than increasing physical spaces we could do something usefl.

i still believe that all hospital nurses should rotate 1 month/ year in ED as part of their hospital accreditation. This would give them insight into the reason why the ED nurse does not give a flying fork about much of the useless imposed paperwork, or why the ED nurses loses their shit when the ward nurses asks if the 20 year old with no medical history has a history of falls, or uses a walking frame, or a catheter.

TBF, every other state has celebrations of some form tomorrow. They are listed in the paper this morning. Melbourne claims to have a "drone light festival" at Docklands, which in fact was meant to happen on NYE but was delayed 2 weeks and now extends to February. So reality, we have nothing... all because the state government is scared of offending. The sooner we scrap this holiday the better; it is now completely meaningless and not needed

He’s got a point. Given the ALP rejected the Feds offer to handover responsibility for health to the Cth a few years back, it’s fair to ask why there isn’t enough health related resources.

I thought that was when Rudd was in power federally. And I disagreed with the state decision then as well. Too much BS cost shifting shit wastes money and money doesn't get to the patients
But it wouldn't have made a difference in the pandemic

Assume that federals had whole control of health. Do you honestly think there would have been strategies to increase nursing staff in hospitals pre pandemic? Paid for extra beds? Or would they have gone "fork this waste", pushed a user pays private system and tried harder to kill medicare
Do you think that they would have designed the covid testing/ vaccination to have nurses TEACH other workers how to test/ vaccinate so the skilled nurses would go back to ED
Do you think they would have AVOIDED overpaying those nurses in that role, causing a mass exodus of frontline staff
Do you think they could STOP idiot expenditures on physical space without corresponding workforce
Would they have avoided stopping skilled migration (shutting one of the easy pipelines to get overseas nurses) due to fear of covid coming into the country?

Probably the only thing I would confidently predict in the positive is that we would not have hit covid zero, we would have had ongoing circulating COVID in all states (and as such might have avoided border closures)

Easter is completely meaningless.
Christmas is completely meaningless.
Australia Day is completely meaningless.
The Queen's Birthday is completely meaningless.

But they are all needed.
As are more Public Holidays, the more the better.

Throw in Labour Day - completely meaningless
Melbourne Cup Day - absolutely completely meaningless
Boxing Day - meaningless
Good Friday - same as Easter

Just do a way with the lot and give everyone 5 weeks' annual leave

But keep Anzac Day, I like it when they march through town for my birthday.

I don’t recall who the PM was, only that the ALP State Gov rejected the proposal; my wife was likewise annoyed by the refusal hence my memory of it.

I think having to deal with additional layer of unnecessary governance creates unnecessary time, cost and quality related obstacles. Centralising health would have helped avoid blame shifting.

This might be a bit beyond your thinking but Gladbags and Scatty are both to blame.
I would have thought Scotty knocking back a request for firebombing aircraft only months before the bushfires was a bad decision, but his ardent supporters will surely find a way to make it a smart choice

That's what the universities do. No public holidays - close down over Christmas and New Year.

Gladys was popular.

ScoMo was popular enough to win the last election, and still 50/50 for the next.

In terms of state pride, the only Premier in recent history who garnered respect was Jeff. Removal of railway crossings is convenient but meh in the bigger scheme of things.
Go ask the railways how much respect they have for him.

People committed suicide because he decided to privatized the rail network. Anyone from that era despises him.

Look at the east coast power grid. Like Health its up to the States & on call 24/7. Nothing like Defence that is called on rarely in real time ( ramped up when needed).
Passing the buck does not work in health.

From all the firies and paramedics I've talked to they despise him as well.
