So if someone doesn't stay home from work after completing a negative RAT test, you are now considered as selfish?

Nobody will have any leave left if we stayed home every time we had a cold, and were waiting for the RAT test to turn positive.
considering everyone at my work has a laptop and spend 80% of their time WFH it wasn't a big ask to be considerate and potentially not spread it

I'm not sure its wilful ignorance of the media as the lack of commercial driver (no money in covid stories now, no clicks) - sadly commerce drives most of the media organisations.

And I pretty much take least resistance too, in public I generally am not masking - I'm reliant on vaccination + ongoing low level viral stimulation (though my oldest son still chooses to mask). But I wouldn't go out if I felt sick.
oh i agree with that. business trumps health every time. and it's counterproductive.

Tigesie, there are also people in the exact same line of expertise who are saying the opposite to what Baxter and Crabb tweet about. So please don’t tell me to pay attention to those in position. The difference is, you choose Baxter and Crabb and I choose others who are perhaps less conservative.
Doesn’t mean either of us are wrong, but please don’t discount or discredit other disease professionals or insult me and who I view in the process.

There are immunologists who are concerned right now and there are immunologists who are not. It’s human nature to follow those who share similar views to you and that’s exactly what we are both doing here, so please don’t attempt to belittle me with where I get my info from.
oh please name those who are saying "the exact opposite" with links so we can check their quals.

So your office spends 80% of the time at home, and you’re not happy about your manager going into the office after a negative RAT? 🤔

If she could work from home she should have.

not sure that's right.
Of course but try arguing you should work from home 5 days a week - businesses will always fall back on the asterisk that it any flexible work arrangements must also suit business requirements. Even state government departments have been told to work in the office 3 days a week minimum, they argue that allowing people to WFH 2 days a week is a flexible work arrangement already, you would need exceptional circumstances (medical) to argue for more and good luck with private companies - some were forcing people into the office 5 days a week even during lockdowns.

Of course you wouldn't be happy. How often do negative RATs turn positive after a day or two, we've had examples of the same thing happening where I work and the person subsequently ends up testing positive. Even if they don't is it really that much of an issue to work from home for a couple of days until your symptoms resolve, do you really love being in the office that much? Sets a bad example for the staff too who would then be pressured to turn up being symptomatic unless they have a negative RAT.

This is the whole point, people as a whole cannot be trusted with the "personal responsibility" line which is why government should re-introduce measures (not lockdowns).

I didn’t say exact opposite, I said opposite and when I say opposite I mean they aren’t constantly fear mongering.

Dr Ranjit Rao (not a scientist but I enjoy his thoughts whilst working in hospitals) but pushes common sense, testing and being up to date with your vaccination.

All you’ll get is masks in all settings. The rest falls down to personal responsibility.

Otherwise bring on the PCR test only, and start monitoring the positive people at their homes in iso like they used to.

You don't have to monitor, just telling people to iso will have more people doing so than now if they don't have to. Even if a portion of those who are positive isolate it is better than none of them and realistically I think most people would if they were told to (a minority wouldn't but they won't anyway).

Mate they are more than welcome. I won’t be one who complains about it. I just don’t think it’ll make that much difference like you’re suggesting.
They lost the control when they removed all measures.

Time to post about some guy on twitter!

This to me is the classic this is a good thing but also, why is this a thing.

Learning to sign should be free, but also why isn't it just a standard part of schooling?

100%, I always joked when I was younger that Auslan was my first language but I’ve never learnt it and not sure where I could have. Nowadays it is much more easier to find courses, but there are people on the Facebook post that say their kids school is including it in the curriculum now, long overdue.

Does anyone know how much these Free TAFE actually cover? I’ve looked into some courses and under government supported they still have a $ amount to pay which is about half what it was before Free TAFE, so does it actually cover all fees?

Is there some sort of legal compulsion for Victorian officials following the lead of Commonwealth officials? The press have demanded much from Daniel Andrews that he has had the political strength to resist - why not this?

He's either a strong leader (for which you give him credit for) or he's a weathervane easily led by outside forces. Not one or the other when it suits your rhetorical objectives.
No stop being asinine and attempting juvenile diversions because you failed either a simple comprehension test or do not know who and what govern the national COVID response.

This is what the right allegedly wanted and what Victoria signed up to, formal deference to the AHPPC and a unified national plan where Victoria no longer went it alone.

That clearly has its downsides, including the fact you can't just simply walk it back. And despite a moment of hysteria from the usual nuffs, we have seen no push by any state government to reimpose any kind of restriction. What we do need though, is for the AHPPC and ATAGI to either stop pretending the pandemic no longer exists/that immunity by exposure is preferable or possible, or some form of cleanout.

Funnily enough you would have had that mentality pre-covid.
Just “harden up” with a sniffle and go to work.
Go figure.
I get my flu shot every year. If I am diagnosed by the doctor with a virus, I take time off to a) recover more quickly and prevent a more severe infection and b) to not spread it about.

So no, my response to being ill hasn't changed post/during COVID.

I'm also well accustomed to wearing masks both in my workplace and from my time living abroad, as it is common to do in Japan, South Korea, HK etc. during winter months.

take note of what the epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists suggest. here's one - prof crabb

  • vaccines and the need to be fully vaccinated,
  • continuing to test and isolate if positive,
  • a focus on clean air and better ventilation, and
  • the ongoing use of masks
And here we have it.

A simple and effective list that many of our Asian and Pacific neighbours are working through to various degrees.

Australia has failed horribly in the "ventilation" department, but it was a particularly effective part of the Japanese response. Other nations have taken note.

I wonder what the schools did with all their ventilators (those that got them anyway).....sell them off and fund the staff Christmas parties?

thanks. the fact there are no links really doesn't matter cos only one those quoted has the medical qualifications 2 comment on the matter at hand ie epidemiology, infectious disease, immunology, microbiology et al. that one would be coatsworth who is right wing liberal member and apologist whose comments on the whole covid matter have been either significantly wrong, inaccurate, even laughable. of the others:

hoeg is an orthopedic physician.

bhattachrya is an economist

prasad is an historian

balloux is computational biologist

kulldorth is a stastician

over time i've not only referenced prof alan baxter - immunologist; but prof raina macintyre - principal research fellow, who leads a research program on the prevention and control of infectious diseases; prof scott crabb microbiologist; prof nancy baxter, primary researcher in clinical epidemiology; prof peter doherty, immunologist and nobel laureate; prof mary-louise mcLaws epidemiologist specialising in infection prevention, and member of the world health organisation health emergencies program and member of the advisory panel for infection prevention and control preparedness, readiness and response. all australian professionals. i could go on.

it’s interesting that the very same peeps who underplay the covid figures, the effects of long covid and the hospital beds covid patients are occupying are the same peeps who bleat endlessly about not being able 2 get a hospital bed.

You’ve posted about Baxter and Crabb recently. One says the flu is gone and the other has compared flu deaths to covid deaths in 2022 and proceeded to tell us that covid is 50-100 times more deadly based on 2022 stats alone. Fear mongering again and also underplaying the flu.

Funnily enough they are clashing.
