Vic How would you rate Daniel Andrews' performance as Victorian Premier? - Part 7

He had a 6.2% swing against him as it was.

A semi-competent opposition would have won.

Labor fans seem to want to say it was a huge endorsement of him, but really, people clearly dislike him, but had nowhere else to go.
But that’s exactly my point. There was no competent opposition.

Andrews would have won the election had he promised events to regional Victoria or not. Which to me makes it an odd thing for him to commit to.

6% swing against in primary vote but only 2% for TPP which was after and extremely high vote the election before that nobody thought they'd achieve again even under perfect conditions.

Even with that they won 56 seats, one more than last time and coalition also gained one seat going to 28.

When they have such a large majority I agree he could have won the election without promising the games.

Sadly for Victorians I reckon any thought of Dan stepping down and handing the keys to Jacinta will be parked indefinitely. She is light weight compared to Dan and is now tainted. The Minister for Delivery of the Games. Fail! Dan will stay on until next election. He is invincible. Just ask his fans in this forum

He must hold enormous power within his party. I wonder what his colleagues actually think of him
And former colleagues who he shafted. I can’t believe Jenny Mikakos has remained silent. Dan must have compromising photos of his colleagues and former colleagues😉

I had heard (not sure of the veracity) that the departures of Melino, Pulford and Pakula were linked to him being a prick to work with.

I'm wondering whether he's now at point in time like ScoMo who won an election but the public woke up to him being untrustworthy and a liar.

ScoMo had a credible opposition while Dan doesn't; that's the main difference.

For now, all we hear about are Dan's progressive views and infrastructure. I wonder how Dan's popularity will hold up under a recession when the fans here and elsewhere lose funding and jobs.

Unfortunately he's got the Trumponian cult of personality behind him, only with a weak opposition. The #istandwithdan set are on a par with MAGA hat wearers.

Him handing over will significantly weaken Labor, so I think he'll hold on, unless the he gets a Godfather offer from Lindsay.

And Jill Hennessy and Jane Garrett. Of course Jenny Mikakos was the fall-gal for the Hotel Quarantine debacle, but everyone knows she made no decisions; it was all Dan and his PPO

I'm not convinced about that. There's a lot of shit that's stuck to Dan, and that goes away if he steps down.

Difference is Dan is a consummate bully; he handles the media as well as anyone ever has. Put simply, until now mud has not stuck to him. Jacinta has a long way to go to match him, and the feeling is the media and even the Opposition will have field days with her. She is being called the Minister for the Fyre Festival, and it was an unnamed Labor MP who dubbed her with this name.

Those opposite completely missed the ‘popularity’ of Dan. It’s not a personality cult, in fact his personality isn’t attractive, it’s the getting things done without being a prick like Kennett.
Contrast with the 3-4 years under Napthine bailleu where very little happened, and their own supporters were the biggest critics

this reads remarkably like an opinion piece in todays murdoch $cum ...... a david penbarthy piece in fact

coincidence .... ..... lol

How many people both sides had it pencilled in their diary for a visit to woop woop in ‘26?
4,500 athletes + families for a start, but agree, travelling to Shepparton, Morwell, Geelong or Bendigo had little appeal, particularly when you have ready made world class facilities in Melbourne. Just beggars belief that Dan thought it would ever appeal to the masses. His judgment has to be questioned. If he can get something like this so wrong, what else?

From reading posts in this forum, it seems Labor voters would prefer we had no F1, no Commonwealth Games, probably no President's Cup (who could be bothered testing this one>), they didn't care the Grand Final went interstate in 2020 and 2021.
