Independent report into Hobart's proposed new stadium has found the costs of the project have been significantly underestimated

If you want test cricket there, I feel absolutely.
Why as they play Test cricket there without a roof?

Less washouts compared to Sydney.

Somehow they have managed to play cricket in Tasmania for a long time.

If rain stopping play was an issue they should take the new year test off the SCG. How many years has that one been significantly affected by rain?

Yes that is obviously the case. Moreso than anywhere else cricket is restricted by seasonal weather in Hobart.

Get the roof right and it extends the dates and reduces risk so you could host more games of cricket and test matches especially.

More days available for cricket. More cricket. More turnover for the stadium.

The AFL want a team in Tassie, it's always been clear to me they've used them (the devils) as means to try and get an new venue which is mostly paid for by other parties (state and federal government's).

They'll definitely cave IF the stadium falls through, take it to the bank.

It just means they'll work with governments and sponsors to "do up" Bellrieve...or less likely North Hobart Oval.
Is that the TCA oval or a different one?

What is AFL’s obsession with Tasmania needing a new stadium?

Allowed GWS get away with Engie, which is a dud.
Allowed Gold Coast to have People First Stadium which cost 144m for only 27 500 crowd.

There’s two perfect stadiums that are fine, I mean North and Hawthorn aren’t complaining.

I'm not entirely convinced that the AFL really wants this team. They set the bar for the stadium as a test to see how committed the government was and they needed a much more enthusiastic response than what they got. They didn't just want the support of the government, they wanted a blank check.

On paper, the Tassie team is a pretty crap proposition. It's a tiny, isolated population, the state is barely growing and the infrastructure is just not really there. The AFL as an organisation is purely about the bottom line and has been for a long time, they have no real interest in the romantic or the historical aspects of footy. Their modus operandi is to get everyone else to pay for their shit while the operate under the guise of a not for profit while extracting every possible dollar out of the fans, TV rights and gambling revenue.

Not sure it is going to shit.

Both the Tasmanian Liberal and Labor Party have approved the funding of the stadium as part of their platform.

if they did a GO FUND me they could raise some serious coin and offer say a free ticket to 1 game you can redeem in the first 3 seasons as a perk (and an added tourist incentive). Celeste Barber raised over 50 million for the bushfires. Surely the AFL footy community could double that

You're just making shit up.

According to the BOM data, Hobart's average rainfall is similar to Adelaide's, it's less than Perth and Brisbane.

Where are their roofs?

From the AFL's perspective the roof clause has been extremely successful, it was only ever designed to be an obstacle cos they din't want the team.

The AFL doesn't want a Tassie team. If they did, they wouldn't have given them almost impossible conditions. Bet Dillion is laughing at AFL house seeing these news. Once this falls through, they should put a team in Canberra instead (strike a deal with the goverment like NRL did for PNG) and make a 20th team for North Queensland or WA3

I think there are clear double standards.

Likely because the AFL isn't really that keen about us having a team. Likely they set a bunch of standards they want met and figure "well if the little state we like to pretend doesn't exist manages all that, good for them..."

This is my conspiracy theory/belief too
