Basically if a vote of no confidence succeeds today are they saying if Labour get in power they won't help fund the stadium and if that happens, the AFL will either cave in and not make it a must have for the team or they'll scrap it all together?

Essentially yes. It will become who blinks first.

The AFL want a team in Tassie, it's always been clear to me they've used them (the devils) as means to try and get an new venue which is mostly paid for by other parties (state and federal government's).

They'll definitely cave IF the stadium falls through, take it to the bank.

It just means they'll work with governments and sponsors to "do up" Bellrieve...or less likely North Hobart Oval.

The concept is massively flawed. It's really a Hobart team, not a Tassie club.
Holding the electorate to ransom could backfire massively, the whole saga reminds me of the east/west link debacle.
Afl arrogance at its worst

They are still going ahead.

When was the last time a major government building project was close to budget?

Do they look to make savings on the design though? Wooden roof may not be the cheapest option.

If it's built, makes them more viable to get more Test matches.

Cricket Austalia don't like the roof design.

That's a problem that needs solving.

Does Tasmania really need a stadium with a roof?
It really doesn't ay, they just need to be smart with the scheduling of fixtures (day games in the middles months of the season, night games at the start and ends of the season).

The conditions will be a unique but so is Qld, so is Perth, so is Darwin so is kardinia park.

The unique conditions could eventually become a real advantage for a Tassie side.

The Greens have moved an amendment to the no-confidence motion in Premier Jeremy Rockliff, to insert that the state's budget problems are "compounded" by the proposed Macquarie Point stadium

Labor is supportive of a stadium however, so the amendment is unlikely to succeed — but it will at least add a bit of time to the length of the debate.

NGL part of me wants this to fall over just to see what happens.
Was thinking the same this morning, considering Tas were pulling the money for the North/Hawthorn games unless they got a team would they be left in the wilderness and AFL leave the state?

Ultimately I think this still gets done, but it's who caves that's going to be interesting

Whys the stadium need a roof? American football and euro soccer play un the snow. The old saying you build it and they'll come. Tassie get an afl team and more people and businesses move there, there's not 10 clubs vying for your business down there
I imagine a stadium with a roof can be used for so much more than AFL, e.g., basketball, concerts.

I don't thin Cricket Australia should have any say unless they are chipping in? One test a year if lucky.

Is that such a bad thing? Believe Oval has the same capacity as Sydney Showgrounds and Carrara so it matches 2 current AFL team home grounds. A lick of paint and a few touch ups and you’ve got a permanent AFL stadium for the fraction of the price of a completely new one.

A brand new stadium that was only going to be used 3hrs a day on 12 days of the year is not worth selling off multiple state assets for.

If it falls over, your team is the most likely to get relocated if the option becomes more viable. You should probably hope it doesn't fall over..
It is unlikely the binary is a new team and new stadium with a roof, or relocated team at an existing venue.

Certainly not saying it's a bad thing, not a good thing.

I'm pretty neutral on the whole.issue tbh, I just want a team in Tassie
