inFAMOUS 2, the follow up to the excellent 'comic book' like super-hero game from 2009 which was well received by critics getting an 85 on Metacritic.

New powers have been confirmed (with most of it still surrounding electricity) as well as a new Ice Power (Ice can work in conjunction with electricity as Ice does not conduct electricity;)). Will be set in a city much like that of New Orleans, has me really excited about this part. Cole will undergo a rejuvenation with a new voice actor and a new look. And The Beast, the reason for inFAMOUS's storyline will be in inFAMOUS 2.

inFAMOUS 2 INFORMATION
It takes place in a new city called New Marais. Its a fictional New Orleans. This isn’t a younger cole its simply a re-designed cole with a new voice actor. Cole will be spending the time this game becoming a “super-super hero” in order to be able to beat the beast, he will be ramping up his power from the last game.

  • From what I see, they have pulled in the camera.
  • There are real cutscenes and the traditional comic strip narrative.
  • You wont just jump up buildings but will construct ways to make it up buildings using objects to heighten that sense of exploration.
  • There should be some new powers outside of electricity but he will still be the electric super hero.
  • There is melee weapons.
  • Zeke is more helpful.
  • More people, cars and things happening in the game.

Really excited about this one, think the first one was clearly the second best game released last year. Trailer looks good but still prefer the old Cole.

holy crap it really was released last year wasn't it

damn there were some awesome games last year
Yep. May 26, 2009. Amazing to think that, I didn't think Killzone 2 was a 2009 game either until I saw it today while making the thread. It's much like GTA IV, because that was out within the first 3 months of 2008 many had forgotten it was a 2008 release when it came to GOTY nominations.

Can't believe I still have the first one in it's package as I got it with my PS3 when the misuses bought it for me. Never had a chance to play it as I have such a massive backlog of games to play....Shame on me...going to have to try and play it sometime.

inFAMOUS 2 Preview from 3 people. Greg Miller, Colin Moriarty (the inFAMOUS fanboy) and the inFAMOUS n00b Hilary Goldstein (who even with the name Hilary is a guy). More from each at the source.

GREG MILLER - The wait is over. Infamous 2 is here. If those words mean anything to you, I probably don't need to recap Sucker Punch's 2009 hit, Infamous, but I will. Players took on the role of Cole McGrath, a bike messenger who gained electricity-based superpowers after a bomb went off in his hands. Spread out over three islands, Infamous had you grinding along power lines, leaping from rooftops, and hurling lightning bolts at baddies from across the screen.

COLIN MORIARTY (inFAMOUS fanboy) - Anyone who listens to Podcast Beyond has heard Greg and I rail on the new look of Infamous 2 (while Ryan sits frightened nearby). Greg loved the original Infamous -- he gave it a 9.2 -- and I was very vocal about how I thought Infamous was easily the best game released in 2009. But when the new look of Infamous 2 was shown to us, we were taken aback. Stellar gameplay and engrossing story aside, what really tied Infamous together for me was its gritty look and unusual main character. I'm a sucker for hopelessness in my fiction (which is why I like books like The Road so damn much), and Infamous really hit home with me in that respect.

HILARY GOLDSTEIN (inFAMOUS n00b)- Confession time: I didn't finish the first Infamous. Though several IGN editors assured me the game picked up later on, I just couldn't get past the slow beginning and I never felt much of a connection to the main character, Cole. I don't think the game is bad in any way; it just didn't grab me and I moved on to something else. So I don't have any sort of attachment to Cole's original look or design or voice actor. I know the twist of the first story (learned only as someone tried to explain why the changes in Infamous 2 are so devastating to a fan), but they don't have any negative effect on me.

What happens when the ice melts (as it tends to do)?
I believe, from my exhaustive scientific studies. Ice melts into liquid which is more commonly known as H2O or Water.

The thing that people don't seem to realise about Cole and water is that it's not the single touch of water that kills him. It's when he's submerged in water does he begin to lose health and die. Pretty sure you would've fallen in the water at one point or another during a certain boss fight in the original, didn't die straight away did you? Also remember the puddles that would be around Empire City that you could walk in and it would create an electric current running through it that if anyone was unfortunate to run into would kill them almost instantly?

The ice will melt into a puddle. Barring that you would think if Cole has the ability to create ice he can probably re-freeze it as well to make sure he's not killed by it.

My guess is that it will almost instantly evaporate or absorb into the ground once it melts, or will leave a puddle much like that of inFAMOUS.
Is the new city going to be in ruins as well?
Pretty much will be. Will slowly degrade I think over time.

The fact Cole can take in vasts amounts of electricity and expel them means he would at some point generate massive amounts of heat so heat + ice would inevitably meet.
Depends on how his body stores it. He doesn't necessarily have to be storing ice somewhere in his body, just uses the natural waters that a body holds in conjunction with his powers via Ray Sphere to expel that water from his body and turn it into ice (ice pee ftw?).

The man shoots lighting from his hands and you're debating realism of Ice + Electrics?

Not a Troll post...

I really didnt understand the fuss of infamous, sure i liked the comic book style the game had but apart from that it wasnt intresting enough for me to continue playing it.

I remember buying Prototype and Infamous, while i liked Prototype a bit more (Storyline was weak as anything, but flying around, stealing helicopters and flying them into other helicopters was fun) they were letdowns for me

However i might get around to buying it

I guess, for me anyway, it took a comic book like superhero and adapted it to near perfection without there being that comic book superhero basis in the first place.

I bought Prototype, played it for 1 hour or 2 and promptly put it down and forgot about it until I recently traded it in. Sure there's more to do and there's more of a 'fun' factor to it, but there just wasn't anything that really made me go "damn I want to pick this back up and play it again".

This is probably one of the reasons that I have so far played around 10-12 hours worth of Saints Row 2, yet finished GTA IV twice over pretty much no hesitation. Overall Saints Row 2 DEFINITELY has more of a 'fun' factor and it's easy to **** around, but I found myself going back to GTA IV despite having Saints Row 2 there to pick up and finish. So I can't really say I necessarily rate Saints Row 2 above GTA IV as it's unfair to say so when I've put more than 100 hours in GTA IV (SP and Online) but only around 12ish hours on Saints Row 2.

I guess when it comes down to it, I do tend to find myself preferring a genuinely great story to a game that just has a shitload of other stuff to do yet when it comes down to it there's no real incentive in continuing doing that stuff other than personal gratification and to give your bad side a run.

I'm currently doing the same thing with Red Dead Redemption. So far I am 46 hours into the game and have completed 41 of the 57 story missions (so that's less than 1 mission per hour). But what is keeping me from going to those story missions is trying to get everything else, all the challenges that are available I want to keep doing them. All the stranger missions I constantly choose them over the story missions. It's these sorts of things that I keep coming back for. It was the same with inFAMOUS that enticing feeling that you get a reward for doing stuff, things that just keep you wanting to go that "extra 10 minutes" and end up playing for 3 hours. I love that kind of an open world title.

To say that inFAMOUS didn't have the fun factor though is also selling it short. I didn't really going around ****ing shit up and wasting hours away like I can do in some other open world games, but I did have a ton of fun doing all the side missions before progressing the story. I find that if I have an objective to complete I can have more fun than just creating my own random destruction, in terms of continuing to do it anyway (I guess that's why in online games I am an objective player over DM/TDM's, I like what I'm doing to have a reason/meaning).

I guess what I'm trying to say is for a quickish 10-20 minute session I will probably pick up the Saints Row 2 (or if I had it), Prototype games. But when I want my actions to be meaning something I'll pick up a GTA, RDR or inFAMOUS. Dunno if that helps at all (was a bit longer than I planned:o).

I'm looking forward to this game. played the first and loved it.
But I couldn't beat the final guy- tough.

was a really good game though.

So close to a pretty good ending. Have you ever had it spoiled? If you don't plan to play it again, watch a youtube vid.

I got half way through my hard playthrough as that's all I needed for platinum but haven't played it in ages. I'll have to start again if i want to finish it up.

Blast shards FTW... Not..

OH MY FREAKON GOD THAT IS AWESOME!

the new additions to the gameplay will take this game to a completely new level and the graphics for an open ended world are simply astonishing! even ahead of the already amazing graphics of the first. :|

the youtube clip doesn't work so i went to gametrailers to watch it.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-chase-infamous-2/701416 for the HD version

i am psyched for this as much as i am for LBP2 now!

And you said it looked visually downgraded Kerrby. HAHAHAHA!

Sucker Punch said they're getting close to Uncharted 2 like quality of graphics, at least for as far as an open world game can go graphically and there is no doubt they are reaching that.

Animations look super sweet as well, can already see the new mo-cap stuff working just like it does for Uncharted. Has that awesome transition from cinematic to gameplay as well, which just helps with no breaking of immersion in the game.

Destructible environments too are amazing! New parkour and ways to get around, new powers (the tornado power is ****en awesome, just as good as the massive lightening one from the first, my jaw dropped when I saw it in action).

Looks AMAZING, always knew Sucker Punch would come through.
