Who? Gotta wonder since the country has become Germany's bitch, can they afford to come over this year?

How can you not remember the mighty, imposing Gooch! A bastard cross of the pasty, sick kid from the Simpsons and Fry from Futurama. Supposedly he is like Ireland's Dermott, Campbell Brown or Barry Hall. In reality he is more like Edward Furlong's whiny John Connor to Arnold's Terminator.

Tremble at the feet of the gargantuan Gooch!!!

Who was the supposed hard man, that a 18 year old skinny Danyle Pearce put on a stretcher?

Brad Green is captain. :o:eek:

I know it's not exactly a star studded lineup, with lots of inexperienced players and Green is suited to this game, but geez.

It's over here this time round (Etihad & Metricon).

Also, that poll the guy above posted pretty much sums up how we feel.
You mate not we.....you don't speak for everyone least of all me

Secondly the only club captain and has exeperiance - like him or not he was the best choice. SIMPLES. I'm glad one of the Dees boys got it....

geeze I shake my head sometimes.

I have seen it on my program guide on the tv. Generally quite accurate.

Green being captain is a disgrace. Swallow or Frawley would of had no problem doing it. Think someone mentioned Corey being in the squad ? If true than he should of been.

EDIT: Kelly not Corey sorry

Feckin' whingers. It's still amazing after all these years how many Aussie fans take the time to come on here and post detailed reasons why they dont care about the IR Series. Some of you guys need to get a real job. :)

Regarding the IR Series, no one ever claims that either team is the best of their own code, or that the game is anything but a bastardised version of their own. But the fact remains it's the only International Outlet for two sports that are fiercely popular in their own countries but hardly recognised beyond their borders. Deal with it. Look on the positives; it's better than cricket, rugby, (I'd mention soccer but that's too easy a claim).

We'll save the traditional baiting of Amateur teachers/plumbers/sales-reps/etc vs Professional Nancy-Boys/Bondi-Blokes/Outback-Ogres/etc until after we've stuffed you in the first Test. Then you can go crying to Queen Lizzie for comfort seeing as she is "down-under" at the moment. Hey - there's a thought, someone should invite Liz to the game so she can help inspire your poor team that so many of you seem to take great pleasure in running down so much.

:D

It's not the only outlet, but the only one at an elite level.

For IR here's the latest addition.

There are numerous examples of an IR bringing AFL and GAA communities together. A lot ilke Vancouver, have turned into annual pre-season(or post season) events. AR has gained from these contests overseas recruiting new players either from the publicity or deflections. Women's football in Sydney gained a Gaelic team in their league. The hiatus inIR at the international level has had no impact at grassroots.

Just wondering. Why is it we have to play their sport ?

Why not switch it up, if we have to play a game they have done for all their life than surely every second year they should verse us in AFL ?

Would attract more people to games IMO.

We don't play their code, it's a hybrid. Look past the shape of the ball...

Couldn't agree more - and celebrating the connection of the two and giving players a chance to represent their country is the most important part of this series. Who gives a continental if every single popular star player plays every single year - the ones who are are going to give it 100%

I'm not saying everyone has to like it - just hate the keenes of this word and the various posters ***** how no one cares just because they don't

Speak for your ***** self next time

This thing really is getting shambolic at this stage. Its embarrassing watching the management over here literally trying to drag players onto the plane. It used to be a big deal getting a free trip to your lovely land but everyone under the age of 30 has been already!

Its a complete joke. I really want it to work but last year I nearly cried in croke park. Both teams playing a game they are absolutely rubbish at. They may as well be playing basketball. We cant tackle, cant take a tackle, cant interchange, but most embarrassingly we try to physically compete and that is just a total mismatch.

Just bin the whole thing again. Nobody gets anything worthwhile out of it. At least when there was a bit of digging we had something to look at. Now its like watching your uncle play soccer against his 4 year old niece. Spends the whole time trying not to hurt her and tip toeing around.

BIN IT!!!!!

EDIT: Collingwood??? Where did that come from? I'm irish. I'm sure you guessed!

Sheesh, every year we have to put up the same arguements. Do you think Rugby League and Rugby Union are the same sport? How about comparing Cricket and Baseball? Sure we even managed to beat England in Cricket (not a rare event, I know).

My own opinion is IR is closer to Aussie Rules in the whole game-play aspect, just with a round ball (which will bounce reliably and can be kicked on any side, so it is relatively easy to get used to). The tackle may be slightly watered down from the pure AFL version, but it is still a long way from the irish version. In Gaelic Football, we can only try to block the man or ball, not wrap him up and drag him to the ground. It's not even in our instincts to get "up close and personal" with our opponents.
