... to move to CHF?

Now that Sarge is out with a serious injury, is it time to move McGregor to CHF? With Sarge out we are lacking that workhorse that will cover a lot of ground, create a contest and actually take an overhead contested mark. With all due respects to Hentschel, I don't think he is that pack busting type. He is a roaming finesse type player.

IMHO, with Sarge out we have no contested marking in our forward line. Hentschel is ok when on song but he is not and even when on song he is not really great at contested marking. Pound for pound Kenny is possibly the best contested mark in the team.

I also don't think that Biglands is a great option. He is big and strong, not a great or consistent contested marker of the ball. Maric is also not someone that we can expect to carry the forward line as a key forward.

Thoughts

Temporarily yes, against the Bulldogs Rutten, Basset and Hart will be more than enough to hold down their key forwards of Murphy and Grant.

Not sure about following next week though ...

But what about now??????

Kenny going back to CHF is a given when Bock gets back but what about now? No Sarge means you don't have that hard working, contesting sort of tall forward that is vital to our structure. I think its always easier to replace a CHB than it is to replace a CHF. Even a simple switch of Kenny to CHF and Hentschel to CHB would IMHO be a better structual set up than if we had Kenny at CHB and Hentschel at CHF.

Agreed, but I think that the sentiment in the thread is what do we do in the interim?

I think that if someone like Gibson can hold down full back (big ask I know), Rutten to CHB and McGregor to CHF.

What I'm thinking is that we don't necessarily need to find another forward option to cover Sarge - we find a back option and move McGregor forward. It will be interesting to see if the selectors look at something similar.

If Gibson has some size and pace, it may be better to throw him in at the other end rather than expecting Maric or Meeson to fire as forwards, as they are are ruckmen at any rate. I know we are in dire straits for KPP's, but I reckon that we are better off bringing these guys along in the ruck!

At least a month. He has fractures in his back. Lets hope we don't have another Krueger on our hands

From what I've heard it's two months and it's a worse injury than any of the club is prepared to let on.

Very serious injury from what I've been told. Potentially career ending if the AFC can't get it right.

My mail tells me it's this injury or an injury similar only much more severe than just a month. Don't hold your breath on Bock in the next handful of weeks minimum.

i didnt think it was that bad.....

at leats kenny started to come good on the weekend

lets give Maric a run this week too, would be ideal due to the doggies not being so tall!

I know thats why I said lets hope we don't have another Krueger on our hands ;)

I think McGregor could be handy up forward this week and we could cover the backline without him. So if he goes up forward, who'll go down back?

Rutten at FB
Bock at CHB
Rotate Goodwin/Roo/Thompson in the middle.
McGregor at CHF.
Welsh at FF.

That'll be our spine in a few weeks in a few weeks time. Very nice indeed. Should cover the loss of Peza quite well. Also a good opportunity for Jericho to take the next step.

There is another little scenario in this mix and that' s that the Doc has a few little leg niggles. If he doesn't come up then all the previous plans go out the window IMO.

We need to blood Evaaaaan now even as a back up ruckman and leave the Bigman upforward when resting. I know it's a gample but we need to give him experience if something worse happens. We can't bring him in if Clarkey goes down in a couple of weeks, especially if the Doggies bring back Minsen.

But I do take your point Stiffy about shifting Kenny forward and put the ............aagggh Poten no I wont say it, Trent down back as CHF. I feel he belongs there anyway. Always been my thoughts.

How reliable is your source?

WE are now 3 KPP down on our ideal set up. It seems rair to say the club has lost faith in Stevens so how is Gibson travelling?

How about throw Riciutto at CHF. He is playing at FF currently but he has the body mass to make a contest and is fairly decent at taking contested marks.

I think we are going to have to improvise up forward for a while, rather than disturb the backline.

While we could get away with Kenny up forward against the Bullies, we'll need him down back against Port the following week and indeed every week until Bock comes back - whenever that might be.

The cupboard is very thin for talls - Maric, Meesen, Jericho, Stevens and Gibson and Griffin.

The last 2 are nowhere near ready, so that brings it back to Maric, Meesen, Jericho and Stevens.

Stevens just hasn't got it, and Jericho would never win the Victoria Cross.

Neither Maric or Meesen are really quite ready just yet, but now is not normal times.

So for me it's Biglands up forward, and Maric into the ruck along with Clarkey.

The only alternative to that is to play a midget forward line a la the Bullies, but that is the very last alternative IMO.

Actually I heard that it wasn't stress fractures, but a muscle related injury, that has not healed at all, which the physio and rehab program have not worked. It's from a pretty reliable source as well.

I guess we can play a midget backline against the Dogs though.

Assuming Marty Mattner pulls up fit, I think he'd be a great match for Murphy at CHB. Kenny could go to CHF, which gives Trent licence to roam.

The easy fix would be to bring Maric in and play him as a backup ruckman to Matty Clarke. The Doggies don't have a very experienced ruck duo themselves, so this could be a good week to blood the young fella. That would move Biglands up forward. I wouldn't mind seeing him playing CHF....

OR

if Burton gets off. What about him playing as the CHF and Kenny goes to FF, which leave Trent as the roaming forward.

OR

Trent goes to CHF. I reckon he plays his better football up the ground and Kenny goes to Full Forward....

As a few others have already said, I think we will be fine without any extra talls against the Dogs.

Rutten, Bassett, Hart and even Mattner are more than capable of handling whoever the Dogs play in attack.

McGregor, Henstchel and Riccuito up forward, with Bode and (fingers crossed) Vince alongside them.

Its bad enough when one tall goes down - but three...

When is Torney due back?

Bock ruled out for two months

Adelaide defender Nathan Bock’s back injury will keep him out of football until - at the earliest - after the mid-season break.

New scans revealed a stress fracture in his lower back and have forced the club to stall his rehabilitation efforts.

“For the long term future of Nathan, we had to make the decision,” coach Neil Craig said.

“So he won’t be back for at least eight weeks, which means he won’t play again until after the mid-season break, at the earliest.”

Bock’s back showed signs of a stress reaction last month but further scans revealed this had turned into a stress fracture.

“It wasn’t too bad when I first hurt it but every time I tried to get back into some training it kept getting sore,” Bock said. “It’s been a frustrating few weeks for me. But now we have more information about the injury we can plan to get it right.”

What about Adrian Bonaddio he is still a little raw but his SANFL form has been reasonable and has been kicking goals in a losing side. Has the size and maybe time to just give him a chance. However, maybe this week we may get away with just bringing in a small because of the Bulldogs lack of height as well.

I’ve posted this elsewhere but wit the doggies has a smaller faster attack maybe its time Mr Rutten was given a crack up forward

If only for 1 game ?

Yep Kenny is good and has played at CHF but I think its better to leave him at CHB even against the Doggies
