Not it's not, they don't even use the whole circumference with stands
As it pertains to the viability of the ground to host a Grand Final, a stadium that can only host 53'000 people is irrelevant.

I have no issue with the GF being hosted elsewhere, so long as it makes sense financially and has capacity.

For a live event, around 50% of the profit is from ticket sales. You're asking the AFL to forgo 25% of their profit (50% of 50%) and half the fan attendance (which just isn't viable for the larger Vic clubs) for what exactly? Because Interstate teams can't properly prepare for a ground they have known they will be playing at all year? Turn it up...

Until another state has a viable stadium that can host 80'000+ people keep dreaming.

Possibly.
However pies have lost a lot too.
Pies also play more H&A games arguably against neutral opponents because the league gives them more games against other big MCG tenants. That would in theory skew those figures lower but still present a big advantage come final / Grand Final time when playing non Vic teams or smaller Vic teams (excluding Melbourne obviously).

No practical solution though.
Opposition teams often prefer to play pies at the MCG for their home games
Lol ok. It's just those pesky other teams forcing the Pies to play at home. It's a huge advantage and is nothing more than might is right, blaming other teams is disingenuous - it suits Collingwood commercially and they want it this way.

State governments would have no issues if there was a use for the stadium.
Unfortunately the AFL hands out contracts well before they are due

AFL needs 80k.
Super Bowl needs 70k.

AFL > NFL as a sporting event.
Dil should put that in the marketing.

Yet much bigger sports than aussie rules are held at smaller grounds.

The World Cup for example. The sport that could sell out a five million seat stadium if someone built one.

Its an advantage for MCG based sides

Especially when they get 17 of a possible 22 games there. Anyone that thinks this is not an advantage is taking the piss. To win a flag v Collingwood Brisbane has to be a four goal better side before they start.
They were only a 4 goal better side at Marvel with the Pies missing De Goey, Moore, Daicos and Hill, and the Pies had nothing to play for.

I've always thought the non Vic side has to almost play the perfect GF to win or have an abundance of good fortune.

Saying that, despite that last non free to Brissy Collingwoods inaccuracy kept them in the game longer than necessary.

Had Bris won then Collingwood would've been looked back at like NMs 1998 poor goal kicking v Adelaide imo.

In 2018 other than the first 5 goals (LoL) Most people thought WCE were clearly the better side for the rest of the game and kicking points kept Pies in it. Eagles should've won that by 4 goals and people wouldn't talk about Sheed goals and Maynard blocks etc.

After Coll lead 30 to 1 Eagles outscored Pies

Melbourne lost their last four finals at the MCG including two against interstate sides.

Yet when held in Australia the final is always held at the biggest ground, the mighty MCG so thank you for confirming the MCG is the only viable venue in Australia.

In England it’s Lords for tradition, so that would still mean the MCG under the tradition argument as well as none of the other stadiums in Australia have any history or prestige.

I don't see NRL fans complaining about the grand final being at Stadium Australia.
Lots of people here blaming the MCG for the Lions losing, but you won't hear anyone blaming Stadium Australia for the Broncos losing.

Where and how are the nbl and wnbl finals decided?
Where is the a-league final decided?
Where is the women’s soccer final decided?
Where is the state netball final decided?
Where are the state hockey finals decided?
Where is the state baseball final decided?
Where is the state softball final decided?
Where are the big bash finals decided?
Where are the one day cricket cup finals decided?
Where is the test match title final decided?
Where are the state water polo finals decided?
Where is the woman’s Aflw final decided?
Where are the state lacrosse finals decided?

And that’s just in Australia!

Do one of these competitions have a 15-2 vic win rate over the past 17 years!
Of course not. And yes I know there are lots of teams in Victoria but half aren’t and its supposedly a national game.

They’re all decided this way because it’s the only fair way to do it.

Of course the MCG is an advantage. An unfair advantage.

Well Melbourne City finished top of the A League and played the grand final in Sydney v a NSW team so bad example there…

The Test championship is played at Lords no matter who gets there, so bad example for your argument yet again.

The VFLW was played at Port Melbourne the home ground of the lower finishing team…

I’m talking about the state test cricket title in Australia
