We got draft sanctions for draft tampering.

They won't get draft sanctions. Fines, perhaps bans of players involved, bans of officials involved..... etc. Or it will get covered up by the AFL as an unfortunate misunderstanding. ....
If their players have been found to be using illegal drugs to enhance performance, this is tampering with the AFL competition far more than organising for a 3rd party to pay Tippett some more $'s, but not informing the AFL. They should get a huge swag of draft penalties & fines.

Well I imagine the difference between the AFL's handling of the two incidents is that the Essendon case has greater potential for harm than Adelaide's. With ours, the damage could be contained to the Crows and the individuals involved in the incident, whereas the Dons case could potentially have league wide ramifications.
Correct, which is why the Fat Contoller has been far more cautious & would be worried as penalties & impact on the game could be out of his control.

If ASADA bans players for 6 months (of competition), ironically this would mean Essendon would get draft consessions to raid the VFL, NEAFL, SANFL and WAFL to supply clean players for 6 months.

If they let players serve 6 month bans out of season then it will be like the players have no preseason. A ban should mean players cannot set foot into any AFL club or venue. I think Vlad would favour negotiating with ASADA for this type of penalty so it doesn't damage Essendon's brand and sponsors pull the pin.

Should ASASA take a hard line and ban players for 2 years, then Essendon will be reduced to a GWS situation.........

This is before any fines from the AFL. (Which the AFL will end up paying anyway)

I still don't know what Essendon have done wrong.

Has it been confirmed that they took performance enhancing drugs?

Has it been confirmed that the manner in which they were administered was illegal?

The board/admin didn't know what was going on. Ok, not great but that in itself doesn't equal a penalty.

Arms race of new supplements... experimenting... ok. Again, has it been confirmed that they took any banned substances?

If Essendon are found guilty I fully expect the AFL to go easy on them and impose a slap on the wrist in terms of sanctions.
The penalty wouldn't be up to the AFL would it?

And that would be piss weak. Zero penalty resulting.

Essendon have to be punished and have some sort of loss or feel some sort of on field impact because of this or other clubs will do it, gain a whole heap of muscle mass and strength and then just plead guilty with a loss of a preseason.

The AFL could charge them for bringing the game into disripute and strip them of draft picks. Just cause ASADA will ban players and officials doesn't mean the AFL can't target the club itself. Won't happen though, Jabba the Hutt would never target a big 4 Victorian club.

Not too sure what kind of authority ASADA have. I know they have banned a few national athletes but not sure about athletes from a competition like the AFL. Will be interesting to see how the NRL handle it on their side of things too. The AFL will want to come out looking cleaner than them considering the ground they are trying to make up in NSW/QLD.

Is it true that a few weeks ago, Andrew Demitrou really said "ignorance is an acceptable excuse"

If this is the case, the AFL just opened Pandora box to allow the player to get off scott free.

You are right, they won't get stung twice - one by ASADA and then by the AFL but if they are found guilty and it looks highly likely that they are; it is imperative that they get one penalty.

Either massive draft picks stripped off them or players suspended from games and deregistered for a period of time. If the AFL do nothing and ASADA do nothing but find them guilty, it's a ****ing joke and this sport is ****ed.

If this was happening to say Freo, the AFL would have already come down on them like a tonne of bricks.

Agree, I imagine if this was happening to the 2 WA clubs, the 2 SA clubs, North Melbourne, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs or Brisbane - the investigation would be over by now and the penalties handed own already.

Essendon are a priority club, they get whatever they want.

Don't get your hopes up too high. Essendon will walk, at least on the football side of things. I expect the whole shooting match will be massaged around laying blame and pinging individuals from within the club - not the playing group and certainly not the 'boy next door' Hird. The AFL will do anything to prevent a quintessential image of Australian football (Hird)from being seen as dragging the whole code down into the mire. But it is going to be interesting retrospectively concerning Brownlow medal votes and other awards such as Rising Star etc. And how will the football world feel if Essendon win the flag this season?

If Essendon win the flag this year, I hope every news paper in bright red colour have the word 'tainted' splashed across the cover.

This investigation has to be finished before finals have even started.

I agree, but with the fat man phoning club sponsors in damage control and having a crack at other clubs I fear that the penalty will be severely inadequate. The penalties will be for "not injecting peptides" a la Melbourne. "There is no evidence that the substances injected enhanced performance" will be the excuse.

I hope ASADA removes it from AFL hands.

But I fear ASADA will only give them a 6 months out of season suspension and that's nothing. They can serve that during the summer and it won't mean squat.

I'm sure somewhere in all the information I've heard about this mess, that I did hear suspensions like that must be served in season..

Nothing, he's totally second-rate. Anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves.

The Crows won't go anywhere til they get rid of the boys club.

He comes with a great character reference from andy d though. Pretty sure he was very positive directly after handing down the $300k fine, draft penalties etc etc.

Couldn't knock andy d, so I'd go with his endorsement.

The worry is that they're all so desperate to get him back, which means that despite his failings they know he has more business/football acumen than the rest of them. Shudder.

To quote Slippery, that's quite an organisation we're running down there

Maybe he's not coming back. He's being built up to disappoint us. I for one would be devastated if he doesn't come back. Especially having heard chapman explain how important he is. The blue rinse brigaid won't know how we will survive.

I've got a good feeling about this.

This is a really serious question and could/should be a threat on it's own.

Maybe jenny61_99 or anyone else can put together a list of positive thing Mr Steven Trigg has achieved whist he has been CEO of the Adelaide Crows to prove a point.

I'm not trying to set anyone one up or anything like that but if he has achieved as much as the board has implied, complying a list will shut a few posters (me included) up.

Over to you. Lets see the list.

Asked and not answered your honor.

Over and over again.
