JACK VINEY (MELB)

Draft picks:
First-round compensation pick
Value on open market: $700,000-800,000 per season

Viney's agent Tom Petroro said last week his client has a decision to make on his future. Still a chance the 26-year-old stays at Melbourne with negotiations ongoing after the Demons' opening offer was deemed underwhelming for a former captain who this week finished third in the best and fairest. Viney comes off a strong contract signed in 2016 and while his 2018 was hampered by injury, he has since put together two impressive seasons. Now that Jack Graham has told Carlton he's staying at Richmond, do the Blues go all-in on Viney and join Geelong as one of several interested parties?

He’s a jet, would love him at the Hawks.
We just cleaned out some coaches to give Todd a job😉

Would be a horrible recruit for Hawthorn. Tying up cap space (and potentially draft currency) to not fill an area of need.

Better off at Essendon who seem to have an aversion to having tough inside mids. Hope he stays at Melbourne, though. He's a F/S and one of those players that gives a s**t when others don't.

Completely agree. A few knockers on here, that's ok, but Viney is a piece of the puzzle in my opinion. Melbourne's got obvious issues but he isn't one of them. They are crying out for an mid with pace who can hit up forwards on the lead (who doesn't want them?!). So unless losing Viney to free agency was going to turn into a draft pick that can improve that area, or land them a Jeremy Cameron/Joe Daniher, they're better of signing him.

Agree - on the condition Melbourne move out a surplus asset (inside midfielder like a Bradshaw, first ruck capable backup in Preuss) as part of a way to deliver a need like Merrett.
