Jesse Hogan(mini-draft)- priority for us

Why didn't the GCS have rights to a mini-draft also?

Because the Australian Organisation for Make-It-Up-As-We-Go-Along (also known as the AFL) felt like it.

I'm in a foul mood now. I never thought we had a strong shot, I don't mind that. But to over-reward that stinking tanking scum just sh*ts me no end. I dislike Melbourne over this, but not as the incompetent AFL who have skewed the system way to far in favour of the expansion clubs and the tankers. Morons the lot of them.

Pragmatically - We missed out on a potential #1 draft pick - that in any other regular season we still wouldn't have gotten close to short of tanking ourselves. So - these rules if properly followed could have given a chance to punch above our weight, but in the end we're left in the same position we would normally have been in anyway. The bottom dwellers get the top prospects, and we are right where we should be.

Mine (and I think many) people's issues is not that we missed out, I can live with that. Like you say, we're 'in the same position' at the end of the day. But the AFL are allowing the 'bottom dwellers' (well three in particular) to gorge themselves, and one of them is qualified to attend the feeding frenzy on the sole achievement of being intentionally sh*thouse, that's what's annoying me. The way it's worked out even other genuinely struggling clubs like WB and PA don't have a shot.

I just don't like how the whole mini-draft worked out from beginning to end. I suspect the more intelligent AFL officials going around (i.e. not Vlad) would have done that part differently if they had their time again.

what exaserbates the problem is the fact that these teams have already been given such a great run at it in the past few years... when does it end? when they have won multiple premierships i guess.... its a joke. I can deal with not having hogan or omeara... i hate the fact that these other clubs are getting such a great run at it, at the other clubs' expense

I dont think its intentional anymore. I think its genuine shithouseness.

Vale Jesse Hogan.. we never knew thee

Such a waste of a talent

Feel massively sorry for the lad, Melbourne are pretty shocking when it comes to developing high draft picks or kids with potential.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him come back at the first available opportunity.

Someone needs to put all this potential and positive opinion of Hogan and put it in a time capsule that is opened in three years when he wants to come home and has poured more cold water on his ability than lighting anything on fire.

Football has short memories, Melbourne could really ruin his value unless he is a super star, then he will look a million bucks.

Jesse can do his own tanking and come home for peanuts.. although it will be hard to outdo the blokes giving him the ball

When a good player we're hoping to get back goes pear-shaped - we generally don't want him by the time we get the chance to take them anyway. If he stunk it up for 3 years the BF consensus would be that we wouldn't want him. However, if he performs and turns into a superstar - we'll never afford him by way of satisfying a trade. It's a lose, lose situation.

Yep unfortunately :(

Be interesting seeing how he goes in the VFL next year against men

The ball is going to have to reach the forward line first! Seriously though. Disappointed but it appears we were miles away from any sort of deal.

This GWS mini draft is the biggest wrought going around. What did we get when we started up again? Sweet F.A. and a bunch of Claremont rejects!
