JLT 2017 Wk2/AFLW R4 - Melbourne v Carlton (DBL Header), Casey Fields, from 11.35am, Foxfooty

Carlton will be fine, i often equate their rebuild to our own. Last year i consider similar to our 2014 period, i expect some improvement to around 7 wins this year for the blues. Then to continue on after that. And much like our upward trend in 2015 it has it's falters, in the preseason of that year we lost to a top up Essendon side. I think Carlton are on the right path
Difference is we had/have a forward line. Until Carlton fixes it they aren't getting more than 8 wins.

And yes, McKay and Curnow are there, but it's going to be at least 12 months before they are seriously effective.

lol.

Ok and remember last season the Bombers 2nds beat us at Ikon Pk to kick off the Pre Season.

Gee so many long bows drawn from one practice match in Feb at Casey fields......
At the end of the year your loss to the Bombers was actually more reflective of your season than the few honeymoon wins early in the season you can't hide 9 losses in a row and although this is only a practice match it still showed you have a long way to go, as does Bolton before we start deciding whether he is a dud or the next super coach.

Your rebuild has so far delivered no more than a tenth spot, if Carlton's is similar to yours then they have longer to go than I thought.

Yeah a young/rebuilding side tired in the run home with their captain injured for the season and shock horror no surprises there!

What about the wins we had mid year and some were massive against finals teams but all anyone wants to harp on is a negative, so be it and you are free to discuss what you want.

The highs often come in the aftermath of a coaching change maintaining that early euphoria in following seasons is often not so easy, early days yet so who knows what may happen.

Not sure what relevance that has to do with anything in this thread, not too mention it being a load of rubbish, we werent even close to rebuilding in 2013, 2014, 2015 or 2016, I can only assume that you have no worthwhile response?

Stones coming the back the other way seem to hit a raw nerve huh?

You guys are a laughing stock and currently have the favorite for 1st coached to be sacked this season!

As of July 2015... and you did nothing in 2016...

To put it in perspective, every single AFL club, apart from the expansion teams Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney, have won a finals match since Richmond’s last finals victory.

GWS have put pay to that now also!

You guys are a bloody rabble but sink the boots into others who actually admit they are turning over their list and rebuilding with the kids.

Geez,a couple of people dare to mention Carlton look likely to carry on with the form we've all come to expect and their mod has a complete melt down :'(

No meltdown and discussing the facts.

What is it with you an Mod gripes? You can get serious help for anxiety complexes you know.

Seems we are not allowed to talk about anything according to you and when we do it is melting! lol

And???

What about the other games and the final win loss ratio on the season?

Or do we conveniently just fob that off to form an argument that suits an agenda?

I know no one rates us and this is fine as i also expect a season containing no more than 8 wins but gee whiz as we rebuild this thread is a laugh after 1 Pre season game with little to no care taken by anyone in nothing more than a run around to improve fitness.
I just wanted to make it clear that it wasn't just the preseason that we beat you

Melbourne is going to be one mean outfit. Roos developed a good squad here after three years at the helm. The Blues of course in line for a top three pick - but some good signs.

Smedts, Palmer and Kerridge too far behind the eight ball and Blues need to bring in another batch of young midfielders this year.

Marchank, Fisher and Pickett looked decent.

Our young forwards looked a little lost.

Demons were simply a class above the Blues today ... worked harder, better skills and won the contested football when it counted.

Blues need to persist and work hard to develop their kids some of them look very promising ...

I think the most concerning thing for Carlton was the amount of easy goals Melbourne had. There were times where Melbourne had lose players everywhere in their forward 50.

Apart from that some of their kids looked good. Going to be a long journey but they just need to keep turning over the list and bringing in high qaulity kids for the next few years.

Melbourne need to build a bronze statue of Roos at their training base haha done an amazing job.

Your not serious are you, he is good no doubt but if you think one third year player is going to make the difference then Im going to ask for a wee bit of whatever it is you're smoking:cool:
He is enough to give us midfield dominance in this game based on his averages, so yeah he will

You call that rant discussing the factso_O

I thought Melbourne were very slick and run very hard both ways. Probably had the benefit of the extra run last week. Carlton showed some glimpses of fast ball movement howeve regularly fell down once the ball went forward. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Carlton don't win as many as they did last year but can see they are on the right track and Bolton seems a good coach.

I think Goodwin has Melbourne playing a great brand of footy and I'm ecstatic about some of our youngsters. Petracca Oliver and Hogan are going to be something special.

Not sure it's been touched on but I wouldn't be too worried if I was Carlton as its impossible to gauge the advantage Melbourne had having already played a JLT game.

I mean look at the Richmond Port game where the were clear periods where each team just stopped running.

Melbourne good. Carlton full of kids and rusty cobwebs.

Gonna be a long season for us, but we are in full rebuild mode and at least 3 years off finals. It's to be expected.

At the end of the day, it is just a preseason game. Don't buy into Carlton are truly awful, nor that we're that good
It reminded me of when you played the Hawks last year. Ruthless football that shut out the opposition. What the dees need is to bring that more weeks than not.
As for Carlton, Bolton is surely still in tinkering stage. Working out who can do what and who is gonna make it under him. The process is slow and takes time. But the draft setup will help them if sos and co keep making the right decisions

Carlton only had Cripps missing from their best 22 while Melbourne had Tyson, Kent, Jetta, Watts, Garlett, Frost.

Worrying times for the Blues.

Who???

I would be more worried about you guys then us, full strength side taking the jlt series like its for premiership points ready to burn out before it all begins.

And for the record the personal might make up most of our 22 but there was clear signs we were just putting minutes in players legs as noted by not playing 3 players for a half and the fact we had 5 kp talls in our backline for most of the game. (Weitering, Rowe, Plowman, Marchbank, White)

To be honest it may have been more the rusty cobwebs. If you look at the games played the number were quiet similar when you look at under 20 under 50 and under 100. During the year maybe a different story. We were the youngest side most weeks last year but this year we add Melksham Hibberd and Lewis.
I think Carlton is a couple years at least behind on the rebuild. Weitering is a gun however the key forwards will take time.

I'm actually quiet happy we are playing a good side during JLT. We want to hit round one running. Although watching both our games so far we are somewhat holding players back. For instance Gawn and Viney are playing a lot forward.

Garlett Kent and Watts are all best 22 forward. Tyson a staring mid and Jetta our best small defender. We aren't exactly full strength.
