How about that goal on his right :)

it was a good finish but c'mon, 40-45 out no pressure, virtually straight in front, i would expect many AFL players to be able to finish that, even on their opposite

awesome poll..1 of the most overrated plyrs in the game (selwood) v 1 of the most underrated (pendles)

Pendles easily..plays well in the big games...
> First final against dogs... had 10 possies in the first qrt with 100% efficency
> Preliminary final against cats...9 possies nd 2 goals in the first qrt to set up the win for a BOG performance
> will finish 3rd in the brownlow behind ablett nd swan

..selwood just doesnt stand up in finals..had under 5 possies in the first half against saints
> Selwood averages 102.1 points a game in 82 home-and-away games, but only 75.9 in nine finals.

Well I have to say, this is one of the better polls.
Both are great players and I would take them both in a heartbeat.
Selwood's tough aggresive playing style to Pendles poise and skill.
To hard to pick, i went with pendles for obvious reasons but will enjoy reading others opinion on this.

do you also think joel bowden is the greatest defender in afl/vfl history?

surely you must, if you think champion data's arbitrary ranking system is a good measure of a players ability

Dunno what Joel bowden has to do in relation to those stats..has Joel bowden even plyd in a final?...those stats were merely showing the difference between selwoods performance during the home nd away season nd in finals.. clearly shows selwood cant cut it with the big boys in finals

Pendles won 3 medals this yr for BOG performances..Anzac day, Norm smith nd another against the dogs

Selwood won a B&F and while he doesn't have a Norm Smith, he was one of just two Geelong players to receive votes in the 2008 GF.

As a Pies fan, although Selwood is an excellent player, I'd say Pendles. I love the way time seems to stand still for him, he is an outstanding decision maker & his disposal is top notch too. I'd be happy to have either (or both!) in my side though.

Both superstars in the making.

As a player I'd probably (just) go for Pendlebury, he's just classier. Though my decision is probably skewed by watching him in the GF. For Hawthorn I think I'd (just) go for Selwood.

As someone said earlier, it's steel vs silk.

i know your just trying to not sound bias and in doing so going over the top and overflattering the other with your statements, because that is a load of trifle right there, last season selwood was top 3 in the AFL for kicks into forward fifty that resulted in a team mark, he is pin point precise with his kicking, he has the edge over pendleburry in just about every fascet of the game, not worthy of a poll what so ever
common..... hello Bias. I may be slighly Bias however i see Pendals taking over in the years to come, Joel has had a better start however Scott is getting better and he is a smart bloke therefore learns from each game with tactics ect. Pendals for me, i may also wear No. 10 ;)

Think Selwood was better before this season, but pendlebury has caught him, and now like everyone else I'd say they're just about square. I'll go for Pendles just coz Im a Pies supporter though. One other thing about pendlebury that people dont seem to realise, he is number one in the competition for putting pressure, both real (tackling and hurrying up opp players) and perceived (harassing) according to some new champion data thing. because he is so smooth with the ball he does not get the credit he deserves when it comes to the defensive tough things.

In the home and away season, Pendlebury had more tackles and more contested possessions than Selwood. Though Selwood has a higher disposal efficiency, kind of seems back to front.
It's Selwood's ability to do the inspirational that really elevates his game.

Definitely wouldn't swap them given the chance, mostly because Pendlebury is so important to us, whereas Selwood would be an upgrade on Ball as a tough inside, tackling, contested ball winner with better skills. Having said that if forced to swap I wouldn't be overly concerned.

My hunch is that Pendlebury will be considered a better player when their careers are all said and done.

"far too often" what a joke. He has one really bad finals game and suddenly he always goes missing.

You are a lemming.

I would suggest the opposite is correct. He donned the downhill ski's against Freo and suddenly his reputation as a finals donkey is erased.

He is a handy home and away season player regardless.

handy??????

are you kidding???

i don't suppose you remember his great performance in the 2008 LOSING GF????????

Selwood. But just, they're different styled players but the poll is actually good for a change. Neither have been a gun in a struggling side so cant tell exactly how good they are. I dont think Pendles will be as good in a side that isn't as brilliant as the one his in now, he relies on the protection he gets from his team mates. Where Selwood is never protected and has a hardness few can match.

Selwood by about a metre in a 100m sprint.
