Hawks offered him far more cash than we did, so he was on his way.
Who among us hasn't been in that situation? If you're in any way decent at your job, then sooner or later, a competitor will offer you more money than your current employer, and you are on your way. Does that make you a bad person?

The other thing to remember is that most of these blokes owe AC. He either gave them
Their first chance or he taught them. He is calling in favours and rightly so. There is a cap so no one is getting huge bucks. This is why it has a great feel. It’s a mission.

I don't think it's entirely accurate to say this is Clarko calling in favours. Viney didn't need this, but he answered the call and got talked into coming to us. But again, he was perfectly happy in his life and didn't owe anybody anything. Ratten would have had his choice of clubs and Monkhorst is the same. Gibson wanted to do this. They are each in a different phase of their lives and careers but all chose North as they wanted to help Clarko. All apart from Viney made this decision after the Hawthorn Russell Jackson story broke. I'd suggest that rather than Clarko calling in favours, this is more a case of loyal mates wanting to help out a friend in his hour of need. It's a subtle but important difference.

I don’t like Gibson. He’s a socialite and I reckon an attention seeking w***er. However, I know people who played with him in underage who were shocked he eventually made it as an AFL player. He worked hard. He has a lot of energy. I reckon Clarko would be happy to pull that energy into the club at the moment. It gives Gibbo a chance to build his chops. Also gets another experienced head around the place who has reached the ultimate and obviously knows how to get there from the scrap heap of the VFL.

MM - this is the year one coaching pannel. It’s not likely to be the premiership coaching panel. We’re coming from a long way back. Just getting everyone pulling in the same direction and building a happy / productive work environment is the primary focus.

It's a weird world isn't it?

End of 2009 - Gibbo is traded to Hawthorn after requesting a trade. North act to get the deal done. Gibbo leaves and becomes a key cog in the Hawthorn dynasty.

23-May-22

List management team walk out after a horrible start to the season just before the MSD. NMFC hierarchy questioned and the media go after us even harder. Rumours surface about internal conflicts and disagreements about trade period targets/deals.

May to July

NMFC continue to struggle on-field, a review by Geoff Walsh is announced and Noble's position comes under question. Noble is sacked after the close loss to Collingwood. Patch takes over as rumours surface about Clarko's interest in coaching again.

August to present-

Clarkson is appointed after an embarrassing attempt from *Essendon to lure him, Viney is appointed after living very nicely at his farm, more changes are made including a new CEO to replace Amarfio (Jennifer Watt), Rocca is sacked, McPherson is sacked, Younie is sacked, Ratts is appointed after Noble's review (lol) gets him sacked at Saints, Emma Kearney becomes development coach along with Lynch and Boomer, Monkhorst is appointed Ruck Coach and as if life couldn't get more strange, Gibbo returns!

I agree that the manner in which he left the club was less than optimal. However, I think the "when we really needed him" comment conveniently overlooks the way that your man Bards absolutely destroyed his confidence by playing him in a different role virtually every second week. If he stayed at North, he would've plodded out his career like so many of our other players whose careers got Scottsed.

Do I think he's more than a bit of a tool? Yes. Will I think he's less of a tool if he contributes to us jagging number five and beyond? F*** and yeah.
Well summed up 👍

My memory is a bit different. We weren't cool enough for Josh. He oddly developed a bit of a man crush on Buddy and decided to follow the bright lights. As good as a player he ended up, he could have easily not had an AFL career. We did pluck him from relative obscurity at Port Melbourne.
He said they offered more money, if that's true or not is a different story.

Sure the bloke is a mimbo, but he's been one of the best defenders over the last 12 years in a very successful side. 17 other clubs would have been happy to secure his services. I think we're somewhat lucky to have him.

He isn't the first player to leave for a better opportunity elsewhere, we've just landed Log in a similar way so can't complain or hang Gibbo for that.

If you keep posting with such reason and common sense I am going to report you! 🧐
