Yes. Right now I prefer Marsh over Khawaja. Unlike most, I'm patient and prepared to wait more than a couple of test matches for somebody to produce.

Marsh will be given another go in Adelaide, perhaps then if he still is unable to make runs, then we can look to replacing him.

but of course if he makes runs on the flattest deck in the world he should stay in the team. he's an average fc batsman and shouldn't even have been picked in the first place

Khawaja comfortably. He hasn't been outstanding but at least he's shown that he's able to hit some runs.

Marsh has been incredibly poor. Hasn't fired a shot at all and shouldn't be in the side for the next test.

Having said that, Watto is comfortably ahead of both and is an automatic inclusion when he's fit.

So you would have been patient with Khawaja?

I don't think Khawaja is suited to be #3... Not at the moment anyway. He doesn't score quickly enough often enough, and it can bog us down. He doesn't have the shots yet.

Having our veterans lower down in the order doesn't help our situation. Clarke won't move from #5, which is fine, but it limits what we can do. Hussey IS best suited to #6, but I reckon it would be great if we could put Khawaja, Marsh at #5 or #6 just to start their careers instead of just throwing them in the deep end.

As for Watson, he shouldn't open with Warner, with their 'heavy' batting style, we could be two down very quickly. I think we'll need his bowling in the future, and I believe this is a great time to put him back in the team but much lower...

I don't know, is it time to move Punter back to #3, Hussey to #4, and then Watson to #6 ?? That's probably too massive a change given our batting line-up is starting to look settled, but then again, we are still collapsing too much against bowling attacks (NZ, India) that aren't the best in the world...

More likely Ponting will be pushed back up to #3, Watson will go in at #4 and Marsh and Ussie will be watching the cricket from the comfort of their couches.

I would have been patient with Khawaja yes. However to me he was after Marsh in the pecking order despite debuting before him. Marsh had some lollies in the bag after the tour of Sri Lanka and impressive batting whilst injured in South Africa. Give the guy another test match.

If selection was left in tandem with bigfooty we would have lost Hussey, Ponting, Khawja may have been dropped and we would be onto trying to find replacements for Burns, Maddinson and Lynn.

Though as Dixie pointed out both will probably be watching future matches from the comfort of their couches.

Geez, give Marsh a bit of a chance why don't ya.

Though of course he should be dropped for Watson.

Well Khawaja only got 3 tests in a row to prove his worth

Khawaja wasn't picked just after injury off nothing more than a domestic twenty20 game.

It's a disgrace that players can be selected with out having to prove fitness in a shield match.

Marsh should still be dropped for Watson though but I'd prefer to allow Watson to play some cricket before bringing him back for a test.

Given Watson's injury history no way would I be rushing him back into the test side. He will be back in the side for the Windies tour but only if he has been playing some cricket. Marsh shouldn't have been rushed back either but still he should get Adelaide anyway.

Agreed.
If he can't look like a test cricketer in Adelaide then we should mark his books with only play tests if there is an injury crisis.

can either khawaja or Marsh keep wickets?

Both blokes don't seem as mentally challenged on the field as Baddin?

Stick with Marsh for now.

Was averaging over 50 before he got injured in South Africa. Coming back from injury he hasn't had any domestic cricket to get some time out in the middle apart from T20 BigBash stuff.

I've still got faith in his talent. A poor run of just three tests - is that enough to drop him already? I don't think so.

As for Watson, Clarke seems to use his bowling a lot more than Ponting. If that continues he needs to be slotted into the middle order. Delicate issue, but I'm hoping either Huss or Punter retire at the end of this summer.

True but I can see where they're coming from. With Khawaja, he's still only 24 or 25? He's still got plenty of time to sort whatever issues he has out and come back a better player. At 29, if Marsh gets dropped now, it's all over. So because of that he gets a little extra leeway

I don't think Marsh is going to make it unfortunately. Such a waste of talent

I would have Cowan and Warner opening, with Watson replacing Marsh.

Not sure Watson will be fit for the rest of this series. I wouldn't rush him back into the team for Adelaide anyway without any preparation - there's no Shield games till February, only BigBash T20 stuff. I think this is the same problem that has contributed to Marsh struggling to find form coming back from injury.

Squad selection for the next series will be done in good time.

Marsh to see the series out for mine.

Khawaja has had plenty of chances at test level, in tour games, and at A level.

Warner, Cowan and Marsh all out performed him each time in those, hence he was the one left out.
