Thanks Clay - can't leave out the skipper who is poised to have a big fortnight.

Pavlich to the join Griffin and Lower inside and Crowley to the bench, Hinkley emergency.

...now that looks much beter!

Cheers

GTFO.

Get Sandilands, Ballantyne, Hayden, Silvagni and possibly Bradley back?

That'd be amazing, surely they wouldn't all play, specifically Silvagni and Hayden?

How could those guys be fit already? I know Hayden played a full game in midfield for the Indigenous All-Stars but wasn't that against a bunch of kids?

And didn't Silvagni only play like a half-game in the ressies?

Harves did say those guys had been doing a fair bit of match simulation to get their fitness up. Think he said it on monday night on 6PR.
Whether this is enough, we'll just have to find out.

This sort of selection policy is really pissing me off. Walters and Palmer are so much more damaging to oppoisition teams than guys like Mellington, Clarke, Crighton, Can Berlo, Hinkley etc.

It's just staggering that they can't get a game atm.

When you think about it though BB it's not really that bad a policy.

If they are not doing what is required of them at WAFL level then why would you play them at AFL level?

The coaching staff need them to fill a role at AFL level. Looking from the outside in I think it is the fact that with the limited rotations available the midfielders need to learn the HFF role in order for them to get rest. Now when the midfielders go here I think if they are incapable of playing that role our forward structure goes to shit. It would all be about keeping the structure when resting players.

Walters I don't know.. Isn't his problem between the ears?

Yeah i too feel a bit of apprehension about bringing so many potentially underdone players, but at least their return forces out JVB, and his mates of the crustacean variety.

Hayden i'd play if fit. Our backline is in desperate need of a player of his calibre and with rain forecast I reckon he's worth a gamble given the shit floating around in the team at the moment.

Silvagni i'd want to play a decent game at WAFL level first.

Clarke is a gamble given the likely rain as well. He's not overly effective in dry weather, if it's raining heavily he's going to be pretty much useless.

But if they have a poor attitude around the club surely it's beneficial longterm with so many young blokes on the list to leave them in the WAFL?

Maybe but that's a pretty big if. I can't speculate on what's going on inside the club but to me it seems that Harvey likes to hold a grudge. Palmer has been in Harvey's bad books since had a shocking turnover, in the Fremantle B Team v Hawks game last year. He's had it in for Walters since he spoiled Pav's goal against Geelong earlier this year. Yeah both player have faults in their games (as do most players) but I'd rather he developed them by helping them get the most out of their strengths rather than try make them into something they're not.

Palmer also got in Harvey's bad books for his game against North Melbourne last year at Etihad. I was there, shocking performance..

I remember that game. IIRC, we were behind but had momentum and were making a forward surge. Palmer receives the ball and kicks errantly to a North player and they ended up with a goal. Momentum swung back to them and we didn't get a look in for the rest of it. It's not often you can blame an error affecting an entire game, but that was one.

Bad Brain, you don't want to speculate on what's going on inside the club, but you're happy to speculate on what's going on inside harv's brain?

Yeah, agree with malpaso and BananaOnTheRun. Palmer fell out of favour in a big way in that game, for exactly the reasons specified by BananaOnTheRun. North didn't look back after that attempted switch from Palmer.

However, I would be surprised if those reasons were held into a new season.

Besides what's the matter with a team that can't absorb one mistake even if it is a big one. Surely the team should have just sucked it up and moved on to winning the next contest. Psychologically soft, all too hard, unless it's easy they don't want to know about it. Is this the team that is supposed to be in a premiership window. What a joke.

Who, other than Freo supporters, has said we're in a premiership window?

Palmer is damaged goods. It's probably in everyone's best interests, but particularly for Palmer's career, if he starts over elsewhere as it's been apparent so far that he can't work out his issues.

I agree with the general premise, but in the context of the match it was a huge mistake. A lot of work was done to pare back the margin, and a simple execution error gave the ball to North. I think they won the next centre clearance, and that was it.

Then again, if 37 gamer Palmer was going to be singled out in that match, why not 41 gamer Stephen Hill - who not only did bugger all, but let his man rack up 39 possessions.

So there is a fair bit of hypocrisy with the coaching staff about the way players are treated.

That game was very similar to the Melbourne game.

Just my impression based on comments and decisions he's made. But yeah, I have no idea what the truth of the matter is. It could be a simple matter of him being bat-shit insane.

It happens every week in every team. Even duffied who is a skillful player handballed straight to an opponent last week for no apparent reason. While consistently poor skills can't be tolerated the occassional mistake just has to be accepted and the players move on to the next contest. Trouble with Freo is we have too many players that make that mistake every week. Critical mass.
I agree Palmer is damaged goods and he should move on. He wouldn't be in our best 22 so I wish him well.

Maybe its just me, I'm a hockey player mostly, but i don't mind the skill errors so much. I play in a team that is of a relatively low standard and so skill errors do often occur but thats beside the point. In my team there is only one big team rule and that is 'if you turn the ball over, no matter who or where you are you work your f*@king ass off to get back and get the ball back. But then again, that may just be me
