Potential Trade
Shultz and Danny Meyer, two SA boys, 1 tall forward and a fast skillfull midfielder >>>>>>> Adelaide
John Meesen and Douglas >>>>>> Richmond both Victorians
Seems like a fair trade. Both Meyer and Messen where first rounders, the richmond boys have both shown they have potential at afl level, but importantly each team obtains players that fill there clubs needs, what do you think?

Oh please, if that the best you can come up with then you might as well not bother posting.

Look I understand that you need a sense of humour to support Richmond..

...but Shultz and Meyer for Meese and Dougie.....:D

surely you jest....

You can't even spell Schulz right! Obviously you can't rate him too highly. Very few people do. Meyer could be an OK prospect, but I certainly wouldn't gamble on him with that trade.

Slightly off topic but which player on the Crows list would command the highest trade value? Would it be Johncock?

Rutten. Got AA before 50 games.

Yeah OK.

From a trading viewpoint, Crows seem to have:

- A lot of 'honest battlers'
- Quite a few quality veterans
- Plenty of kids with the jury still out

There aren't many in that 'all 15 clubs would do anything to get him but we'll never let him go' bracket.

I'm not really trying to make a point here, just an observation.

Henschel before his knee.
Johncock.
Bok before his injury this season?
Rutten.

You make a decent point though, it's not a long list. That being said, I also think it's one of the strengths of our team.

I have it on very good authority that Jerico will be staying at the club.

We can only hope. He was so valuable for us this year.

If Jericho stays on our list, the spirit of Matthew Smith will still live on.

We'll give you pick 43 for Skipworth. :thumbsu:

That's probably about right for both sides. I think we would be looking for a third round pick for Skipworth, who is good AFL midfield depth.

Retirements
Matthew Clarke
Ben Hart
Jason Torney

Delistings
Jonathon Griffin
John Hinge

Trade -
Hayden Skipworth (for a pick in the high 30's, let's say 38)
Luke Jericho (for Andrew Mackie)
Brent Reilly, perhaps.

Need to look at Willoughby, Schulz, plus some of the South Aussies that are in Perth ...

My honest opinion is that this year was the end of our current era.

3 prelims from 2001-2006 and finals every year except 2004. This was our final crack at glory with this current squad. Look at a side like the Eagles and their comparative age against our squad. They are younger and still have more upside while our side really was peaked in 05 and 06. Its only downhill from here IMO.

We need to now start looking at trying to reach the pinnacle again.

Clarke and Hart to retire

Biglands will be kept, BUT I wouldnt have him in our starting 22. I would have Huddo first ruck and Maric and Meesen battle it out for spot 2.

From there, I believe we will only get rid of 4 players, we would look at Jericho and then most probably someone like Hinge or someone in that mould.

I cant see Craig making too many other changes.

We will only trade someone like Skipworth. I would retain Kenny and play him at CHB where he plays his best footy.

I am willing to bet that it is all that the AFC will do.

I dont think there is much need to trade unless we can nab someone of a reasonable quality who is young !!!!

If we traded for Pavlich instead of Carey we might have netted a flag in 05/06, but thats all in the past now and we stuffed up looking too much into the short term.

In the draft I would be looking at tall forward, midfielder and tall defender.

Johncock would have your greatest trade value IMO - but would be all but untouchable.

How do you guys feel about Neils comment that you will be working the draft rather than the trade market and that you have not much to trade with ? (assuming its in context)

Wont this leave a middle aged void in your side with your older group (28/29 or older) and the kids with very little in between ?

It is plain that we will struggle once our stars reitire which will be soon (Edwards, Macca, Goodwin Riccuito Etc.). Betweeen our younger crop and older crop theres only Massie, Shirley, Perrie, Welsh and Doughty IIRC. Our list management got screwed through the Ayres era. If we can get out of this hole I will be very pleased. Wouldn't be suprised to see us near the bottom 2008. Basically Neill doesn't like revamping the list too much and bringing in players to unsettle the squad. He only wants to bring younger blokes in so we can develop them ourselfs. There are pro's and cons.. For example Sydeney trade away their picks all the time and it is working. Look at Darren Jolly for example. Sydeney was laughed at when they traded their 1st rounder for JOlly who couldn't even get a game at Melbourne (due to Jeff White). He's now become one of the top ruckman in the comp when given the chance.

Saturday's heartbreaking loss is clearly very raw in all your minds. You have a great list and not much needs to be done. If Clarke and Hart retire you have at least two spots to fill via the draft. The kids are gaining valuable finals experience which will only benefit you long term. A Pavlich return to SA would have been very nice but appears unlikely at least in the immediate future.

we don;t have a premiership list

we have our 15 players who would be considered in our best 22 the remaining 7 are a combination of players that make it because we don;t have an alternative or players who we hope that are good enought to make it

our list really needs a spring clean, I am sorry I have said it on another thread (but lost it so I don;t know what people said - if anything) but we cant win a flag with our current forward structure

we also can;t go into the draft next this year expecting to recruit a Key forward who is going to get us a flag next year, yes we need to recruit one for the future but thats about it

we need to find a forward structure that we can work to that doesn't rely on Kenny and Perrie being there week in week out

in addition to my other post

we need to make a few big calls for '07

Bock - Permanant CHF - More Mobile that Kmac and better kick the Perrie

Hart - Told Te retire - thanks for the memories mate but its time to go

Skipworth - I put him in the James Gallagher slot - too many players who are similar to really make any impact

Rucks - Time to play 3 next season ? - resting 1 in the forward lines - Biglands and Hudson can take big grabs and kick goals (they only need to ave 1 a week if that)

Roo - its a simple question - are you able to play as a forward and pinch hit in the midfield ? - if not it may be time to hang up the boots

Recruiting a Big Key Forward from the SANFL - do we try and get one of the big SANFL forwards - there is a few of them are they willing and able to be made in to AFL players ?

Welsh - is it time to stand up in a tackle and not be knocked over at the first site of an opposition player ? Will we win a flag with this guy in the team ?

Other small things like delisting Hinge and the Rookies aren't big calls are are pretty much a sure thing

Thats just a few things I would like to have looked at in the next couple of weeks - very important IMO

I think you are being overly critical on top of back to back prelim appearances. Younger players have gained invaluable experience. A clean injury/illness run (e.g. as Sydney have had) through the finals series probably would have resulted in a different outcome.

Say 2 to 3 changes maximum required to the list.

I don't think so - you are only as good as your worst players

and we don;t have the best worst players in the comp

I don't mean to rude but that thread is just another pat on the back bull**** that you really don't need

don;t get me wrong I don;t think this season was a waste by any means but to get any value out of next year tough questions have to made asked

and I have faith the NC and Triggy will ask them

It sounds like you don't think Roo is. If the answer is no, please send him to Tigerland.

By all means the players and supporters shouldn't be patting each other on the back for simply making consecutive prelims. Here's to an injury free 2007 as it would be an absolute tragedy if you don't win another one before Roo does hang up the boots.

Roo & Torney will not and should not retire this year. With a full pre-season Roo should be back in fighting form. Torney is only 29 and has been one of the best players in the finals.

Roo has an injury that he will never fully recover from

He is by far the best player we have ever produced and is a champion of the club. but will probably need to accept he won;t be able to do it all like he has in the past
