Pearce does play a similar role.

The problem is Pearce is probably our most important player in terms of launching attacks. He's our only pacy line breaker with decent skills. Teams know this so they hard tag him week in week out and he deals with it 1000 times better than Shaun did in the same situation.

Good teams have several players who can break lines and deliver the ball because you can't tag 3 or 4 guys effectively. Our first pick this year should be a genuinely fast midfielder who can deliver the ball.

Nah Pearcey used to play that role. And regardles of how much better than Shaun he dealt with it, he still struggled with it badly.

Our coaches in their infinite wisdom decided it was more value to have Pearcey providing the 'line breaking' and high quality kicking skills coming out of the backlines. Dont worry about the fact that he cant defend, she'll be right cause when we get the turnover or point kickout, Pearcey will be our weapon out of defence

Pity our coaching group couldnt help develop Pearcey into the attacking weapon he is AND cope with a tag. Or maybe they could even get the teammates to actually shepherd and block for him.

Dont get me wrong, I am not saying Jetta wouldnt be a welcome addition but I have been badly scarred by our incompetent coaching group to ever believe that Jetta wouldnt quickly become Pearce mkII.

I hope our new senior coach can change this.

liked for the Pearce part. Not sure about the `genuinely fast midfielder' option given how we pick players.

Just did some basic numbers and excluding PPs and FA, it's looking like we'll have picks 7, 28 & 48 in the first 3 rounds of the draft.

- Our round 1 pick gets bumped 2 places because of concession picks to Melbourne (Scully) and Western Bulldogs (Ward)
- Our round 2 pick gets bumped a further 3 places (5 total) becuase of R1 concession picks to Melbourne (Scully), GWS (Davis) & Brisbane (Rischitelli)
- Our round 3 pick gets bumped a further 2 places (7 total) because of conession picks to Richmond (Krakouer, R2) and Western Bulldogs (Reid, R3)

Mayers has grown rapidly on me. Would be happy with him or Garlett at 7, Seriouisly want McDonough the up side in that kid is equal to annyone's in this draft pool. We need another ouitside mid and a key forward. We need to aquire another pick or two inn the first round
McDonough is a mid-size, mid-pace forward who has the Salters about him. Third round pick at best.

You really don't rate Mayes? Why not?
Just don't see him as a sure thing at pick 7, it would still be a reach and i don't see any point in reaching

I see more potential in Kennedy than i do Mayes

Sorry Jonts, I was very much in your shoes after watching the Champs, however watching him at SANFL level I am convinced he will be more than handy. Kennedy will be good, but not what we desperately need. If we were a top 8 (even a top 10 side) side, I would be all over Kennedy, however we need 8 good midfielders, inside mids and pacey out siders, another Key Forward or two and another Key Defender.

Wish we could draft Crouch from West. The kid is an absolute gun - with him and Johnstone the Crows list planning just keeps getting better...

We should have put Chaplin on the table then...we had the same opportunities as Crows and GC to make a really smart long term investment in the GWS mini draft..

Remember now that Rendall is gone at the crows

very interested in their future recruiting genuinely think that their list is peaked, or will next year

The problem with that is its a group that will stay together for the next 5 years...one more tall defender, a key forward to replace Tippett and they they will be making minimal changes for a few years..

Rendall has done well...has he been picked up by anyone else yet?

What's the go with Matt Thomas ? Rumours are that Port have offered him a 1 year deal & that Richmond are into him.

I've watched a few Port games this year & Thomas has impressed me with 2nd, 3rd efforts at the ball, especially in the clinches. He is such a tough fella. I would be surprised if the new Port coach (Whoever that may be) would let him go.

Would like the Lions to make a play for him if he leaves Port.

Kennedy is another Cam Hitchcock. Mayes will be a Pendulbury type.

Yea i know, but can't both clubs agree to a trade? It may be best for all parties involved

Ok, so what do you propose is packaged with Monfries to even out the trade ?

McDonough will be a handy Half Forward/Midfielder, smart and good skills, clean hands and is already strong. He has a frame capable of getting stronger in the right areas. A lot of Shannon Hurn about him!

I agree he has a frame to add bulk, but he's not as big as Hurn. I'd put him in the Chapman/O'Keefe category. Wouldn't be disappointed to see him end up at Port.
