Before anybody accuses me of judging him on 1 a few poor weeks ill let you know that I have always held this belief that after Hird retires we should not make Loyd the next captain.

Lloyd has been a champion of the club a gun full forward. When playing well hes in the top 3 or 4 forwards in the comp. Unfortuantely he seems to lack certain traits that make a great captain. At times when the team is struggling Lloydy tends not to chase do 1 percenters etc. This was highlighted on Saturday night when he failed to create 2nd efforts several times. He does not seem to be a great communicator either. Thirdly imagine the situation where we lead by 5 points the opposition has the play in their defence and a captain is need to direct, lead, and do something special. Meanwhile Lloydys sitting at the other end of the ground pretending to be the bad boy that he obviously isnt.

Let me say once again I am not bagging him I love him and love having him play for the Bombers just think we need to look at someone else for the captaincy perhaps an Adam Mcphee or Jason Jhonson.

What about Lloyd's awesome effort as Captain against Port Adelaide last year?

Showed great leadership that night.

I don't think he should get it either but he will.

He is a dumb arse to listen to as well. Grrr....

I was maybe thinking about Jason Johnson for captain but i'm not sure. Adam McPhee and Andrew Welsh should definitly be looked at down the track.

I don't think the Port Adelaide game sums Lloydy up as a captain. He had a great game that night but we towelled up Port that night. He showed some leadership but I don't think that's enough to give him captaincy.

And several other games. He's been rushed back. Shouldn't have played the last few weeks. He's been doing ******** all.

Like I says he's a great player and has showed some leadership at times generally when the teams playing well. I too think they will give it to him but dont think he should get it. (Essendon wil regret giving it to him eventually)

If Lloyd isnt captain, who else possibly could be? It has to be Lloyd.

I like the St.Kilda method of rotating the captaincy. This gives more responsibility to the designated captain, and gives them a full 12 months of being THE leader. What a fantastic way to fast track your development as a leader.

The end result after 8 years, is 8 former captains, all of whom will have excellent leadership abilities. Some of this leadership abilites will be natural, and some of it learnt of their 12 months as captain. If you want someone to grow into a leader, they must have the responsibility.

If you want to "develop" leaders, thre is no better way, than to make them captain, for a year. Sometimes, as a club, you've got to look at other ideas, and what other clubs are doing better than you. St.Kilda have a fantastic innovative idea that develops many leaders over several years, and I'd certainly like to see us adopt it.

Seeing Sheedy will be giving it he might have to compete with bolts.
:D :D

What about Scott Lucas. This guys tries his guts out for the bombers. Been around for as long as Lloydy. Good public speaker. Saw him on Talking footy a last year and he impressed the fu_ck outta me. Capable of team lifting moments. Does get beaten occasionally (was he playing last weekend..). But as I said before, when you see him, he generally looks like he is busting his balls to get us over the line.

Read on Bomberland that sheeds has finally thrown Courtney Johns name out there. Can't wait to see this boy play. Lets hope he can stay out there for a while. ;)

I was actually gobsmacked that Scotty Lucas isn't in the leadership group at Windy Hill. Quite disgusted actually!

If anyone deserves to be included I think it's Scotty.

Can anyone confirm the exact leadership group at Essendon? According to the pre-season trip the leadership group did to Japan I can pick up the following players out of the picture.

- Hird
- Lloyd
- Mark Johnson
- Jason Johnson
- Andrew Welsh
- Dean Solomon
- Adam McPhee
- Mark McVeigh
- Dean Rioli
- David Hille
- Damien Peverill

He is going to have to do it over the next 3 weeks when Hird is not there- not only but kick goals or we will be 2-7 after 9 rounds.

This is his chance to stand up- right when we need him.

To be honest I always wanted Dustin Fletcher to be captain, but I hear that his shy and unlikely as his getting on

Id like Solly as captain, he has that spirit and is always trying. Otherwise Lucas!

I think Soloman would make a good captain. Hasnt had a great year so far but his hardness at the ball really lifts the team, the only thing that would need to be looked at is his temper which tends to flare up occasionally.
