Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Luke Ball knows he has to leave StKilda, and this is mainly due to the fact that he now and always has played his best football "outside".

He showed on GF day that in wet weather, he is still a high quality footballer, and can still match it with the best.

With Lockyer and O'Bree almost finished, Luke Ball is exactly what we need, we need to make this trade happen.:thumbsu:

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Great news, I'm bloody stoked.

People shouldn't underestimate how much this will improve our midfield. It adds another quality cog to our midfielder, opposition clubs are going to be far more watchful of Ball in our midfield than O'Bree.
It frees up Pendlebury to an extent and should definitely result in a better quality of ball to Didak and Davis. It also gives us time to work Beams/Sidebottom/McCarthy into the role of midfielders, rather than throwing them in the deep end and expecting them to be key extractors/role players in there.

We have great users of the footy already, but we really lack a hardened body to feed to those blokes. St.Kilda on the other hand probably had trouble finding room fitting in Hayes, Jones and Ball in the same midfield... They all aren't great users of the pill, but they win the contested ball and clearances.

Seriously boys, I think I could grow to like a midfield with Jolly (getting chopped out by Wood which makes for a great ruck combo) tapping it down to the likes of Ball, Pendlebury, Swan, Sidebottom, Didak, Beams and Davis.

*licks lips*

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

He NEEDED to be a pie.

Dick, Cox, Goldsack, Wood, Sidebottom and now Ball.

It's all falling into place.

We should play them all round 1 and run out to the Benny Hill theme. :)

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

I think I just got Collingwood

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

I like the combination of;
a) he's out of contract, and
b) he's nominated one club... us!

It puts the "shaz" in shazzam!

He won't **** the Saints over so while I think they are both still great points of us, I don't think they'll matter much... it certainly won't mean we'll get him bargain basement.

He is well loved within the club and I'm sure he wouldn't prefer to leave, so I'm sure he'll ensure they get fair compensation.

It is all still great news though, can't wait for us to finally have a bloody quality, hard bodied mid. Get the medicos onto him and get cracking on this deal :thumbsu:

Saints fans think he is worth a first rounder, but that isn't going to happen... I'm not sure a straight swap for Fras would do it either without knowing where he stands on the injury front. Fraser and a pick might do it.
I'd do a second rounder and Wellingham, others probably wouldn't.
Who ever the **** is throwing up Davis as a swap for Ball needs to go back to the loony bin.

Did this link work fellas? Vid hasn't come up on my pc.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

This seems to have generated some serious excitement among the this board.

Will be alot of people finally satisfied a player leaving his club has requested "Collingwood" as his destination.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

pick#30 + Wellingham too much to pay for Luke Ball? I would do the deal.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Would certainly be a welcome addition down here, would improve our midfield rotations even more, and another first round draft pick, who is only 25.

Realistically, what would the Saints want in return for him? Ball will definitely not join unless the Saints are satisfied with the trade. Maybe something like 2nd rounder and another player? Trying to flog Fraser would also be an idea.

Exciting times.

No doubt, but given all the hysteria over whether Hawthorn will abandon Burgoyne and start going after Jolly... well you can see why it does help.

Leverage is never a bad thing to have, even if Ball is exactly as you described and wouldn't screw the Saints over. Nor would he be impressed if we made a pitch to him (as you'd assume we had, if he's nominated us) and then failed to provide a suitable trade deal.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

If we end up getting ball does that rule out any chance of us getting fev?

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

I'm rapt with this news...

I would be happy to use Fraser to get him. We must get the Jolly deal done first though to ensure we have enough rucks.

Agree.

Jolly for pick 14 must be done 1st. That way we may be able to trade Fraser + possibly Wellingham/pick 30. We can't trade Josh until we land Jolly becuase if we do, the Swans price will go up. Both Saints ruckman are over 30, and possibly Port or Hawthorn may have a nibble.

Just think how much better guys like Swanny, Pendles and Dids will be with a clearance, tackling machine helping out.

Fev's out. I'm not overly disappointed if we land these 2.

Go watch the Pies v Saints game last year in about round 8. Ball was BOG in a losing side. Head over the ball tough nut.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

:) what was wrong with it?

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Just looking at Luke's stats for this year, not too bad.

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pp-st-kilda-saints--luke-ball

The short of it is averaged 20 disposals per game played, and his time played would be higher should he come to the pies.

He was defintely under used by the Saints this year.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Happy about this Ball would be a good fit. Just will have to wait and see what we would offer for Ball.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Happy to have him on board as long as it doesn't compromise our Jolly deal.

3rd rounder + Fraser or 2nd rounder + Goldsack (upgrade on Raph Clarke), IMO.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

I'd rather fev over jolly and ball

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Focus all of our energies on getting this deal done IMO before anything else.

He is out of contract and wants out.

Far easier to move Ball as opposed to Fev/Jolly.

Even if it means missing out on Jolly so be it.

We all know our deficiencies and hardened bodies around the footy is one of them.

This bloke adds that.

I would offer pick 14 for him. Nothing more.

That's very fair IMO.

Damn straight this is fair. Hard nut, leadership and a quality bloke. Maybe we should of waited before settling on mclean...
If you get Jolly, they will want Fraser though
Well done

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Classic that JIMP clip :thumbsu:

I'm hoping that Fraser can be dealt to Port or Hawthorn, given their need for a ruckman. Port have even enquired as to Troy Simmonds' plans for the future, so they must be desperate!
