Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

If you get Jolly, they will want Fraser though
Well done
Mate that sounds even better than you can imagine!

Nah instead of Wood we will give you Didak and Pendlebury.:thumbsu::p

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

No doubt, but given all the hysteria over whether Hawthorn will abandon Burgoyne and start going after Jolly... well you can see why it does help.

Leverage is never a bad thing to have, even if Ball is exactly as you described and wouldn't screw the Saints over. Nor would he be impressed if we made a pitch to him (as you'd assume we had, if he's nominated us) and then failed to provide a suitable trade deal.

Yeah mate I agree, it is definitely all pointing to good signs for us.

Just looking at Luke's stats for this year, not too bad.

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pp-st-kilda-saints--luke-ball

The short of it is averaged 20 disposals per game played, and his time played would be higher should he come to the pies.

He was defintely under used by the Saints this year.

I like these little tidbits as well;
9th in frees for (in and under, gets rewarded)
18th in tackles per game (six per game, with just under six 1%ers each game)

Averages over five 1st possessions a games, four clearances and five contested possessions a game (pro-stats is really stringent on what constitutes a CP, I imagine other stat sites would attribute him to more) ... I think he had about 10 contested possies on GF day.
That is all with a big chunk of game time cut out because they generally don't like Hayes/Jones in the midfield at the same time.

I love the way he plays the game as well, he'd bring a **** load of grunt to our midfield.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

BALL..........................................YEEEEEEAH!!!!!!!

would be a great pickup for us, we need a tough mid who will be able to distribute to pendles and others.

If we can get Jolly too I think the team will start to look a lot better:thumbsu:

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Exactly Invig. I don't think you guys realise how good this kid is...

Bah, you're probably gonna get an out and out gun for pick 14 in a weak draft...

I can understand why Bally wants to leave though. And good luck to him. :(

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

id go Jolly - Ball - Fev

even though people keep saying our forward line was non-functioning in the finals(they were). both adelaide and Geel had almost 200 more possessions than us. therefore if we cant get the footy we cant give it to the forwards. jolly/ball would definitly help us in this area. the forwards could improve with more and better supply (jolly and Ball) but fev cant do much if we cant get teh ball to him.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Rusling would be do-able though.

No-one would take Rusling, lets be realistic, even we were only willing to give him a years contract.
We would essentially be trading our second rounder for Ball, which won't cut it.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

jolly has to be the priority. for years we've put up with fraser, wood, mckee and other guys in the ruck that aren't strong enough to compete with the bigger ruckman. at least jolly will be a gun in that area. and ball would be the perfect addition. let pendles get outside more & do more damage.

c'mon pies, get it done.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

if we give the saints pick 14 for bally, we have to do something else to get a first round pick, and then use that to get jolly. i keep hearing leon davis to west coast but surely they won't give up pick 7 for him!?

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Pick 14 will be a win-win for both parties.

Nah it wouldn't, I'll go out on a limb now and say there is absolutely no chance we'll use our first rounder on him.
His value has dropped dramatically since his BnF unfortunately. I'd love him at the club but if another club is willing to use their first rounder, then that will be that.

A second rounder and a kid is more realistic considering the circumstances.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Luke Ball is a 25 year old, with recurring injury problems, who isn't a top 22 player at StKilda, how in hell does anyone come up with a first round pick for him.

If he was in contract, had no injury worries and was a first team automatic selection at his current club, then yes, a late first round pick would be fair.

It may only cost Collingwood a second round pick yet, although I can also see a player added to that.

Luke Ball is not coming to Collingwood if it costs us pick 14, bookmark it.:thumbsu:

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Ball won't be pick #14. We've already committed that one to Jolly.

We'll find another way to make the Ball trade work.

Invigoration: I agree that Rusling wouldn't be considered any sort of compensation, I was just replying to the Saints supporter.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

Even if it means missing out on Jolly so be it.

so, we just go through another season with no ruckman? Forgive for saying this, but we need Jolly before Ball....our midfield is more than serviceable....imagine Leon roving to the taps from Jolly...

enough said...

Course. Now that he's leaving suddenly he's an absolute gun. Forget that he can't kick has an injury prone history and recently couldn't get into the Saints best 22, but oh no he's an absolute gun.

Should be lucky to receive a second round draft pick for him.

There is no doubt he would be a good addition to our midfield, but I don't think he's necessary. What is necessary for our midfield is class, not toughness, although you can never get enough toughness especially when they are as tough as Ball.

Bottom line is if he were to add to our midfield, Shaun Burgoyne is much more of a need than Luke Ball. Our toughness in the midfield might not stack against Geelong and St Kilda, but it does with pretty much every other team, and Luke Ball isn't enough to bridge that gap, our young mids putting more weight on will. What's needed is the class and skill, and as good as Ball is in and under, he can't kick.

If we have a chance to get Jolly by spending our first and instead burn it on Ball I will be pissed. Jolly is a dominant tap ruckman, whom has improved dramatically around the ground to the point where he is more than a one trick pony. He is a quality ruckman, one whom could dramatically help us with the deterioration of Fraser. Jolly should remain target number 1.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

I'll be pissed, super mega ****ing pissed if we give up pick 14 for Ball instead of using it to get Jolly.

I would love to see Ball back to his best, and i would love to see him do it for us, but he is a risk, his body is almost shot and we'd maybe get 3 good years out of a midfielder.

Not worth pick 14.

Three good years out of an A grade ruckman is better than 3 years from a midfielder with injury concerns.

Lets try and get him, but not at the expense of Jolly.

Re: Luke Ball wants to be a Pie

It won't be for a first rounder. He doesn't have that sort of currency.

He is hard around the contest, and tackles hard. These are his strengths, mind you we need a player with these strengths. He will just add a bit of grunt, help us get the footy to Swan, Dids and Davis, and ease Pendles work load.

Worth no more than pick 30 or a fringe player with a bit of talent. Just an upgrade for an aging O'Bree.
