Mad Monday...

Sorry to go off topic,
but I don't see the point off mad Monday, why should players be able to celebrate not making the finals. They are employed until Grand Final day, so they should be training until Grand Final day. They get paid 100s of thousands of dollars, and they get an early paid holiday for performing under par. Ridiculous, I would make them turn up for work until the football year finishes for everyone.

Who'll be first to shit in a scoreboard, fight the coach, hook up with someone's girlfriend, or put their dick in their face of a passed out teammate?

Would anyone care if they took advantage of an RDO and got plastered esp if they had just finished a 6 month job during which (most) would not have touched any alcohol in a significant manner ???

If they're acting like idiots, people would label it as such.

And how is this any different to say muck-up day, where yr 12 students trash a school yard and blow off some steam after exams ???

Most schools don't want or even allow "muck up days" to happen anymore. They're a bit of an old-timey myth.

Or a bucks night, where a group of guys get plastered, shave the grooms head and tie them naked to a light pole in the middle of the city ???

Well yeah, that's generally considered idiot behaviour.

Again, I don't have a problem with the 'Mad Monday' concept. I do just chuckle at the double standard by which footy players are judged.

Melbourne is investigating whether two of its players at Mad Monday celebrations have dressed up as Rolf Harris and a young girl.

A photo of the pair, posted on defender Dean Terlich's Instagram account features Terlich and teammate Alex Georgiou dressed up in costumes that appear to be the disgraced musician and a girl. Terlich is wearing a fake goatee, high grey wig, short tie, colourful shirt, blazer and rectangular glasses, all of which are trademarks of Harris.

Great start to the offseason, Demons.

Melbourne has concluded it's investigation.

In summary, the Club has found that the two players were not in fact dressed as Rolf Harris and a minor victim. However, the players will both be fined $50,000 for their lack of guilt regardless.

Hard to blame J Frawley for wanting to get out of that place.

De-list, send them both back to Norwood ;)

For guys who receive copious amounts of media training the lack of awareness around a sensitive issue astounds me - just naive, as no doubt there would have been no intent to hurt anyone with their choices, just wanted to raise a laugh.

Clubs are one day going to have to get players to show a picture of what they will be wearing similar to schools policing what girls wear to functions to stop this from happening. Everything we do, everything we say, policed to within an inch of our lives

Hey, it's a Melbourne penalty, so we have to ask ... what whack will the Adelaide Footy Club get?

Oh noes. This is going to end really, really, well.

Do get the feeling that if a random group of mates decided to all have a day off work, dress up in outlandish costumes and get on the piss, they'd be labelled w*nkers, idiots and louts. I understand why they do it, and don't have a problem with it, but we do hold footy players to a bit of a double standard with this kind of thing, glorifying when we'd usually be deriding.

I'd suggest that your average AFL player sacrifices a fair bit more than your average "group of mates" during the year.

They hold it all in, let them have their traditional day of letting it all go.

Not sure how people can knock Mad Monday.

Even at an amateur level, you train and play the majority of the year. Fair enough you can unwind and turn one on with your mates when your season is finished.

Hard to blame J Frawley for wanting to get out of that place.

Or Melbourne, for trying to restrain its glee at getting pick #3 for him.

Hard to blame Melbourne for this one. With so many clubs having a Mad Monday today, chances are someone is going to do something incredibly dumb, without even being able to blame it on alcohol (they would have been planning these costumes well in advance). And if someone does something dumb, it's pretty much a foregone conclusion these days that he'll whack it on his Instagram.

You've just got to shake your head. What a couple of idiots.

Do they really sacrifice any more in terms of social life than any other working person? If you work full time, work weekends, are married, have kids, are paying high rent, saving for or paying off a house, saving for a holiday, etc., I'd say you're probably missing out on just as much "socialising" with your mates as footy players are, but probably aren't getting the fame, job satisfaction/enjoyment and the higher pay packet to balance it out. "Regular" people can't just piss up to their heart's content at the drop of a hat either, certainly not without consequences in another aspect of their life anyway, just like footballers.
