Silly gesture, no doubt he would have been put in his place by the coach and life as we know it continues on. It doesn't deserve much more attention than that

Every club has a player that is silly enough to act up in the heat of the moment from time to time... the fact that it happened against a Port team that loves a pumped up celebration made it giggle worthy

Hello ,hello out there
It was the arms out gesture Connolly mentioned that I was more interested in.
The choking gesture stuck it up the Port crowd at the time but pretty trivial really.Clarkson is the one that over reacted.

Surprised that nobody has bothered to answer the question.

Willo has the names of his children tattooed on each forearm (Mia on the right, Kobe on the left). When he kicked his fifth against the Pies, he kissed each tattoo.

Average effort from Williams.

The incident deserves to be slain for a week then forgotten about (presuming he doesn't pull a similar stunt again).

Tredders got punished (excessviely in my opinion) for celebrating a good goal in a prelim final with a bow. This was not disrespectful to the opposition and was just an over zealous celebration but was really no different from someone pumping their arms or shooting an arrow into the crowd (Luke Power, Lions). tredders had also copped a lot of flak from media, crowds etc during the previous 2 years and this was his return to form.

Williams' celebration though can be distinguished. It was full of disrespect. The guy had done d*** all during the game and then kicked a goal from a set shot during a minor round game ... hardly justified his over the top response.

I think it was a poor act but it shouldn't be held against him forever. Mind you, I want the power players to remember that gesture next time we play them. No prisoners.

It was silly by Williams, its put all the focus onto him instead of the real story of that game, which was the fact that after being jumped, Hawthorn physically beat port into their shells then went about smashing them for 2 and a half quarters all over the ground. Very soft team port.

So the REAL story... was a good team, beating an average team?

The Williams v Williams stuff is a conspiracy to keep that story off the back page

Ignoring the trolling because I'm still happy from the victory on the weekend, Willo has his two daughters' names tattooed on his forearms and he holds them up to show them. Presumably pointing out that he's playing for them.

The names are Mia his daughter and Kobe his son

I was reading Rohan Connolys write up about Hawthorn player and general nobody Mark Williams and his choking gesture.
He referred to his previously ridiculous shotgun gestures when he used to get some regular goals several years ago and also a gesture with two arms outwards.
What was that actual gesture with the two arms?I recall something about it but not sure.

I don't think many would agree with you on that one. Almost one a Coleman medal in 05 and has been the Hawthorn leading goal kicker twice.

.

He kissed the tatoos on his forearms with his kids names on it, and then turned them outside for the camera to see..... such a bad man

So much fanfare about this

I welcome any and all celebrations, inappropriate or not. Clarko might not like it, but its his job to keep his players in line. Frankly i could care less if everyone hates us! And if another player from another team taunted us, yes it would annoy me (i get pretty worked up about footy), but its just all the more fun to beat them next time around.

Everyone just wants to have a big sooky la la about the big bad hawks this year. Every issue that comes up people jump on board the hate bandwagon. Envious much?

But who gives a flying $%^& what Mark Williams thinks or believes or loves outside of the game of football?

Most players act with humility and they just play footy whereas Williams seems to believe that is he a massive celebrity and that EVERYONE wants to know about his two little girls, or wants to see him kiss his arms, or shoot the pistols or do the choke sign or put his arms out but the fact is the ordinary punter at the footy just wants to watch .......the footy. He should pull his head in because his actions are making the Hawthorn Football Club look like a bunch of arrogant tossers and Clarkson did the right thing by bitch slapping him publicly

WRONG :thumbsd: People just don't like arrogant tossers - never have and never will

Why???

Because they (only just) lost to a very good team that is yet to lose a game this season? Because they lost to the reigning premier by a goal and a half? Because they made a grand final (and lost badly admittedly) when they really had no right to be there in the first place ?

Very strange comment.

My comment came with its very own free explanation preceeding it, have another read.

Have a whinge. Who are you to be calling ANYONE a nobody? You know his name, he's never heard of you.

None of us know the full story behind it.

1. Was he having a go at Coach Williams?
2. Had the Port players been stirring the pot about choking last year? or
3. Did he just feel like doing it?

Don't know don't care. It was silly at worst, slightly amusing at best. If PP want to use it as motivation then good on them.

To denigrate Williams' AFL achievements/ability is a bit harsh. For a struggling team he was the scoring production for a while there and did it very well. Now that he plays as the 3rd/4th forward he's playing that role well.

Move on, walk away, there is nothing to see here.

Did anyone see the footage in the rooms where Rioli was immitating the gesture and having a laugh with Williams about it???

Not a great impression for the Rookie player but I think Clarkson cleared that up..

Yeah, the arms out gesture is because he has the names of his kids tattoed on his forearms. That was why he kissed them when he kicked one the week before.

I have been told it was because of this

Had the Port players been stirring the pot about choking last year?

What are we, 5?? It's not primary school. The 'kids' are still 17 and 18. Has it gotten that sanitized that we want 22 robots running around on the field totally lacking any kind of emotion?

Clarko wants them to win gracefully... Fine. Does anyone REALLY care or people are just looking to have a dig at hawthorn?

Yes 17 and 18 requiring leadership from older players certainly players they look up to... 1 small Aborignal forward to another...

No its not sanitized, you just can't make some gestures... No Hawthorn Player or Coach thinks it was acceptable... Why do hawthorn posters have to come out and justify it... You can't... What he did was so wrong that it had the coach saying 'it's the quickest way to find yourself out of this team.'

The choke gesture (while true) was totally inappropriate. Im sure Hawthorn would be just as good without that little smartass in the forward line, so I think he should pull his arrogant little head in before he finds himself either unemployed or unconscious.

why will he find himself unconscious?

i agree though the hawks would be good with or with out him, but nobody hears what goes on on a footy field so whos to say that the port players werent sticking it to willo and he got pissed of...

still shouldnt had done it but i hate port so i dont realy give a stuff about them...

I was under the impression the Clarko pulled Willo's head in already and later relayed that to the press straight after the game. Moving on, Willo later admitted it wasn't the right thing to do.

That being said, it's interesting to see all the Port supporters still getting so worked up over this. Is there a message? Port stopped when the pressure started against Geelong this year, and have crapped themselves despite holding big leads against Brisbane and Hawthorn. The almost did it again against West Coast too. Seems Port struugle when the pressure is on.
