I'm leaning towards Hurley, now.

With the way the LonerGUN played last night, and the way Hislop keeps coming on, plus Watson, and players like Reimers who like it tough rotating through there, I think Rich, as good as he will become, is not the missing link. Another key back, to go alongside Pears, possibly Hooker, possibly Lee, possibly Johns, and eventually Daniher will be very nice, and free Ryder up a bit more.

An early pick this year would be valuable, the top end quality in this draft is absolutely fantastic, and Hurley would add to the list of outstanding recruits...Then we would have...Young Back KP Players : Pears, Ryder, Hurley, Young Forward KP Players : Daniher, Gumby, Neagle...Yeah, that gives us some core strength, no doubt, probably a good option now thinking about it...Then that would enable us to draft basically all midfielders with the rest of our picks, possibly Swift could slip through...

I was listening to the saturday rub on triplemmm saturday afternoon. I was on a high from winning last night as im sure we all were. Then Lyon, brayshaw and BT started talking about the draft and how if you win too many games it hurts you with your draft prospects. It made me upset because i thought its all about winning in this game. On the flip side i think you can pick a top player in any position you finish, you just have to make the right selection and ofcourse a bit of luck is needed as well. To be honest this issue makes me hate carltank more and more. Look at Joel Selwood he was pick 7. You guys know about the draft and the kids coming through more than me, but surely there will be top quality players available up to pick 10?

Joel was touted as a no.1 pick for that draft over a 1-2 year period. He had some knee problems which many thought may become chronic (doctor's report) and so slipped down to 7. Geelong were the lucky recipients. Mind you, if he goes down with some knee problems in a year or two, the fact he dropped down will become justified.

Fair enough, i hope he doesnt go down though. See you do need some luck in this game ;)

Essendon dont have a very hard fixture from now on. We are every chance to win 3-5 more games. Taking a look at the teams above us, I would expect Port to win enough games to finish on top of us and Richmond to have more points than us at the end of the season. From below I can see Fremantle moving their way up to 13th and possibly could leap frog one or two more teams in the ladder. Melbourne, West Coast and Essendon seem like they are looked into the bottom 4 if not the bottom 3. This leaves us the chance to pick up one of Rich, Natanui or Hurley if we wanted. Any of the three would be welcome inclusions into the team. Im leaning towards Hurley. Interesting to see how the season pans out but Im expecting to get pick 3. I just hope that Essendon doesnt finish on 5 wins this year. Would prefer 4 wins then 5 ruling us out for the PP. 6 or more wins and I wouldnt be too fussed over missing the PP.

They just showed footage of Rich and..... I OFFICIALLY WANT THIS KID!

Don't get excited buddy, WCE's and FREO are going to do everything in their powers to get him or Big Nait...Hurley or Suban will be just as good don't worry about that, top young players...

I just got this off the Brisbane Board about this young kid :p;) Have a bit of a read boys...

Kieran King Midfielder 181cm
East Fremantle 05/03/1991 80kg

King is an Australian junior running champion but proved in the 2007 NAB AFL Under-16 Championships that he is also a talented footballer. He averaged 19 disposals in the three games playing across half forward using his pace to full effect by ending the carnival with the second most running bounces of any division one player (13). He was able to do so because only 26% of his possessions were won in a contest, and he posed a threat pushing forward with an average of five inside 50s and two goals per game.

Yeah I saw that in the drafts and trading board although I also heard he can play off a HBF, his pace would suit our game plan well and dempsey and king off the HBF could cut opposition teams to shreds:p

From the things that I have heard about Rich, I would love to get him and some of the descriptions I have heard make him sound a bit like Hodge (i stand to be corrected if wrong) however I have also heard Suban is a very good mid and with the way that we are going atm we most likely will finish around 3 or 4th last imo and without a pp, this most likely means we wont get rich and tbh i'd be leaning more towards suban or sidebottom with pick 3 or 4 and a kpd with our second pick or hurley with our 1st pick and deboer or maybe swift if he slid with our 2nd round. :thumbsu:

Re: Lonergan - Why Sheedy Had To Go!

Its not cheating, its using the system... great, so we've got another Sheedy on our hands, win 7-10 games, miss out on the finals, lose a higher first round pick and then do the same shit over again. Bite the bullet, trade our old farts and use the draft!

It is cheating. It's chaeating the supporters and members who shell out their hard earned dollars to go and expect their team to be trying to win, EVERY week. If we finish the season worse than we started, expect members to drop off and crowds to be less. Such a shame when we have just set a new membership record.

It is not about getting pick 1 or 2, they would probably ensure an AFL readfy player, but it does not ensure a future AFL star.

I will give you some names. Crouch, Prestigiacomo, N Brown, L Power, C Cornes, O'Bree, M & J McVeigh, J Bolton, L Hayes, M Pavlich, L Brown, J Corey, D Glass, R Murphy, S Burgoyne, J Bartel, N Del Santo, B McLean, B Waters, L Franklin, J lewis, S Pendlebury, P Ryder, J Selwood, B Reid to name a few. Do you know what they have in common Donners? Aside from being fantastic players, They were all drafted between 4 - 15. Point being, You don't have to have the top three picks to draft a str player or gun midfielder. No player is worth our pride or credibility.

If this draft is as good as is hyped, we will not miss out on a great potential player if we do not finish last or second last, or snare a priority pick.

How many players picked in the top 3 of their respective drafts became duds? How many outside the top 3 picks became duds? Those are very important questions, do some research and take a look.

I obviously done some research. there are players in the top three that have become duds also. The players I have listed are some of the best in that range, I have left out plenty of servicable players. You bring the list back to me.

How far back are we going? I'll make it say 9 drafts excluding the latest 2 drafts:

1 dud in the top 3 picks, pick 2 in 1998, Justin Longmuir.

Duds between picks 4 and 14: Mark Bolton, James Walker, Kris Massie, Jaxon Crabb, Callum Chambers, Shannon Watt, Ryan Fitzgerald, Michael Stevens, Murray Vance, Brandon Hill, Chris Lamb, Luke Penny, Damien Cupido, Danny Roach, Caydn Beetham, Paul Koulouriotis, Luke Livingston, Adam McDougall, Dylan Smith, Laurence Angwin, Trent Sporn, Ashley Sampi, David Hale, Luke Molan, Richard Cole, Ashley Watson, Tim Walsh, Luke Brennan, Daniel Bell, Jason Laycock, Kepler Bradley, Kane Tenace, Raphael Clarke, David Trotter, Ryan Murphy, Fergus Watts, Tom Williams, Jordan Russell, Adam Thomson, Danny Meyer, Beau Dowler, Jarrod Oakleigh-Nicholls, Marcus Drum & Shaun Higgins.

Success Rates:

Picks 1 - 3: 26/27 = 96.3%
Picks 4 - 14: 55/99 = 55.5%

Which odds do you prefer???

Thats going on your definition of DUD. Some of those listed were serviceable players. Some had their careers cut short by injury.

Now go have a look at the years of the so called super drafts, with outstanding top tens. And have a look at the succes rate in those. We are talking about this years draft, not the last ten.

None of which have proven anything. Who said this year's draft is a superdraft, its apparently a deep draft, not a superdraft.

Incidentally, Top 10 draft pick duds in superdraft years, '01 Sampi, Hale, Molan as duds and you've also got Sam Power and Xavier Clarke... worthy of top 10 picks??? I think not. '06 is too early to tell.

Sampi was a star. He walked away from the game. It's a bit different. Sam Power and Xavier Clarke may not be stars, but they are still around.
