Most Controversial Umpiring Moments In AFL History?

What happened in 99 that made u a plugger fan?

That was when I jumped on the tigers bandwagon. For whatever reason before that I wanted to be a swans supporter. I even had a tiny kids swans beanie and a Tony Lockett figurine. Couldn’t tell you why or how - my memory pre 6 years old is pretty patchy

Umpire McMurray taking the ball off Richmond full back Maurie Sheahan late in a close match because he was taking too long to set up for a place kick after South Melbourne had scored a behind. Bob Pratt was gifted a goal - Lake Oval, Round 8 1933.

Back then the governing body had some integrity and declared after an inquiry that the umpire's decision was wrong, since no playing time was being wasted.

Collingwood dominated the comp

Nuts coventry rubbed out for being king hit on a boil and knocking out the Richmond perpetrator

LEETER colier rubbed out for refusing to acknowledge a trumped up charge

Both tribunals chaired by the Richmond president ( our biggest rival)

No mayo. Infamous decision.

John Wren offered Murdoch a hundred quid to testify in Coventry's favour - a fortune. Murdoch knocked it back out of hatred for Collingwood.

McClelland was a past Melbourne president and player, and was VFL president at the time.

Massive pack mark, players jumping and moving quickly, but yeah the umpire missing the hold on Sampi is `controversial`. No it's just nigh on ******* impossible to see that sort of stuff in real time at ground level

The 50m penalty paid by the new umpire williamson rates a mention.

Carlton player standing the mark, essendon player has the ball. Essenson player enters 10m protected zone. Blows straight away, 50m penalty to essendon player. Everyone at the ground was incredulous.

There's the push an essendon player did on a carlton player that was called an essendon free as well.

This whole thread clearly started by a West Coaster. They are such whingers. They forget that about a minute before Jude Bolton running in sideways to open goal pushed fair in the back by Judd causing the kick to fly through for a point denying a certain goal. No free for that. The West Coast whingers periodically ring up 6PR wanking on about the Sampi jumper hold. When they do I am on the blower debunking them. In any event WCE should not have even been in the 2005 GF. They were gifted the first final in Perth against the Swans with the infamous "STENGLEIN DECISION" which got them back in the game with 15 mins to go when they had no prospect of winning. Kirk with a kick in the defensive 50, Stenglein on the mark, Leo Barry seeks to run past Stenglein to provide a handball option, Stenglein leaves the mark to give a hip and shoulder to Barry - umpire gives him, Stenglein, a kick ! For what .? He goals and gets West Coast back in game . Gives them a home Prelim Final guaranteeing a GF berth. Robert Walls commentating " This is controversial, the umpire has made a misake here". That my West whingers is clearly the worst decision in 2005 if not ever. Please someone post the vision.

I remember that one intimately. Leo Barry standing there perplexed like wtf just happened

Funny cause I always think it’s better to win on merit rather than celebrate incredibly biased umpiring that benefits your side. But hey some people enjoy cheating.....
Funny, given the Crows were beneficiaries of 2 of the biggest clangers I've ever seen at 35s and 1m40s of the video below

No. The worst umpiring decision in the 2005 Grand Final was the awarding of the Norm Smith medal to Chris Judd. An outrage. Nick Fosdike of the WINNING side was clearly the best followed closely by Lewis Roberts-Thompson. Judd a distant third maybe even fourth behind Amon Buchanan.
