Most overrated player in the AFL currently?

Last year you might have had a point.

Got a lot of puff pieces written that off-season, and had a pretty good year, but that's all it was.

Has taken the jump this year though. Another month or so of this form and he'll have joined the elite bracket.
I'm talking for the most part the media's obsession with him as much as they're doing the same with Chad Warner. They both have a lot to work on and the media is clearly hyping them up to the point that they are being overrated.

Woah now you’re saying Chad Warner is overrated?
Im saying the media love to hype up players. King cant stop talking about him being elite and the next big thing.

Thatd the point of this thread. Theyre good players but my opinion is that RN the media is overrating them.

Chad Warners rightfully being talked up imo

Holmes would easily be leading our best and fairest this year and is probably the closest player we have to the AA team as it stands (in a side that will finish the round in either third or fourth spot on the leader), in my opinion.

He gets a lot of commentary because he's the only player in out team that I can think of who's been playing at a very good level for the entire season.

1. Nick Daicos
2. Josh Daicos
3. Darcy Moore
4. Jordan DeGoey
5. Tony Shaw

Surely you’re takin the piss mate!

I'm going to have to raise Bobby Hill in this discussion.

Less than 10 touches a game and only 1 goal just isn't very good. Low Tackle count, and insignificant Goal Assist numbers too.

Obviously was brilliant in the GF - but I feel that that performance created a bit of a false economy of who he is as a footballer.

The way the commentators react and behave whenever he is near a contest just doesn't align with his output.

Harley Reid
I saw him a bit yesterday, and that dude is a freak.

He was manhandling grown men. He wasn't just physically dominant for a kid, he was literally physically dominant. Full stop.

He kind of bullied them yesterday. It's a bit frightening to think what he'll be like when he's a grown man himself.

Side bar - man he was lucky not to give away a few 50s for Dissent.

Yeah, his muscle fibres seem fortified, he’s made of cement and can belt the ball out of players hands (his slaps to the forearms must sting like hell) bump men with ease, twist out of any tackle

The commentators will always love a zippy small forward. The way they go about their craft fits perfectly with their narrative wants. I kind of get it.

But he also has that natural instinct to want to hurt guys. He wants to physically impose himself as dominant over his opponents. That's rare these days, and is an incredibly valuable asset.

Windhager however did seem to match him in that regard. Well, he certainly wasn't intimidated. So it will be interesting to see how it all evolves over time.

Personally, I love that there's a modern player intentionally trying to bash guys.

Kozzie Pickett has played about 8 good games in his career and he's talked about like he's Peter Matera 2.0

Well put.

Holmes has had a very good first half of the season after a so-so 2023 and a promising 2022. In several games this year, he played a key role in keeping Geelong in the contest when their razon-thin midfield was under duress.

If I'm being hypercritical, it's one of my major hatreds, when (as Holmes did in the last quarter last night) a player (Atkins) has a set shot from a reasonable distance and a teammate runs behind him for the handball and then fails to make the distance with his runninh shot. The Holmes example was compounded because Atkins had actually split the middle with a practice shot, but had it called back for him to take it again.

But Holmes was still clearly one of the best players on the ground and will be in the votes, yet again.
