He was a gun junior sportsmen in Sydney around the turn of the century. The prototypical teenager who was good at everything but not quite good enough to make it as a professional in one sport. Ended up playing first grade cricket and first grade Sydney AFL, where he topped the goal kicking once or twice. Remember him scoring a very easy 70-odd against an under-21 team I was playing for that contained some pretty good bowlers. He would have only been about 17 or 18 as well.
Genuinely bizarre blast from the past that is. He definitely played footy and cricket with an air of confidence about him. The fitness model link above does not surprise me in the least.
