What are some nerdy activities you partake in that you're probably too ashamed to tell others?

-I have watched all the Simpsons commentaries on all the DVDs I own (Seasons 2-10) and enjoy them as much as the episodes themselves. In fact, in general I am a commentary watcher of pretty much anything that has one.

-Was/still am quite heavily into Microsoft Flight Simulator.

-Have been known to edit websites such as Wikipedia and TV Tropes seriously, not just for a laugh.

-Recently borrowed and read a Tintin book from the library (I suppose childhood nostalgia isn't that nerdy).

Since you're reading this on a forum I suppose we can count forum posting/reading out, unless you have a prodigious account somewhere else that's worth mentioning.

* Post on this forum, even though I don't actually bother to watch football.
* Have an encyclopedic knowledge of synthesizers
* Fantasize about having sex with nerdy girls
* Very occasionally wear a mario kart t-shirt, because I liked it when I was young. I don't actually own a video game system.

That's probably it.

I'm Obsessed with weather. I have 2 rainfall units in my yard and 3 outdoor temperature sensors. Check the conditions whenever I'm on the computer.

I have a library card, and I use it regularly. I nearly always only borrow non-fiction, and I nearly always pluck a book at random just to investigaet a subject that I might know nothing about. Some are great.

Current fascination: Architecture of bridges. I now bore the family stupid when driving along the freeways, pointing out what type of bridges the pedestrian overpasses are.
Recent topics I have 'studied': The link between clinical depression and driven personalities (eg Graeme O'Bree), Carry On movies, the Aberfan disaster, polar bears.

Oh, and I married a farmer's daughter, so I've caught the weather bug as well.

The world is endlessly fascinating.

I have a deep seated awe and love for anything to do with space.
+1. I'd vote for whichever of the major parties promised to give Australia a real space program.

As for others - Tintin isn't nerdy. Now I've got kids it's a good excuse to pick up Tintin's and Asterix's whilst at the library. ;)

These days computers can't be classified as a nerdy thing, but being late 30's being into computers in the 80's as a kid you were a nerd and derided.

The other one's that still classify me as nerd would be liking the sci-fi shows / movies and reading fantasy (other than just Harry Potter). It's like Tripod sung - I liked Lord of the Rings before it was a movie.

The best thing about not being a teen for a long time and being a nerd is not having to give a **** what others think and pretend you don't like nerdy stuff, in case you don't look cool.

i have a dedicated pc for my train simulator activities

connected to my 42" plasma, and one of these

Can't read a book without taking notes and transcribing them into a Word file for future reference.

You are a classic!

This reminds me of something funny I heard a few weeks ago regarding footnotes.

'Reading footnotes is like going downstairs to answer the door in the middle of having sex'

Anyway nerdy things i do is post on the NRF boards on this site and watch alot of doucmentaries with a special focus on quantum physics.
