Next Captain?

We've had a few names thrown out there as potential captains of Port Adelaide when Dom steps aside or is tapped on the shoulder. A few over the the past couple of years have probably dropped off the list.

Who do you think is the best candidate? I've listed the most obvious names over the past couple of seasons. Feel free to nominate any others.

My vote goes to Brad Ebert. Only his first year back and shows some great attributes for the job.

Jacko is the man with the leadership mentality/ Boak is more Judd like in demeaner but will lead by example

Ideally in Porthosworld, your captain is your best leader, face of the club, and all round good guy, and the VC is a solid club man - sort of a Chief Whip.

Trengove and Brad Ebert are both very solid candidates for VC, but captain? Geez, dunno. Hartlett if he was playing as a real midfielder and producing every week.

After seeing how well Trengove handled the media the other day when talking about Primus my vote has to go to him. You can also tell he gives his all every time he is out there and I think he has to be in line for it.

Problem is Boak and Hartlett have just not come on as much as we hoped which is a combo of injury, lack of surrounding talent and possibly just a lack of effort. The third point being the stickler for why they shouldn't be considered for captain yet.

Voted Trengove because of the now, he and Ebert are current favorites I would think. But that is only because of form and the like. Next month it could be Boak and Hartlett because they have been performing well and leading by example and saying good things in the media. Obviously this thread will come up again at seasons end and I'll be very interested in our opinions then. I'm sure we'll all be looking closely at a select bunch and see who is playing for a leadership role, who is playing like someone who will retire at this club.

If it was based on this season alone, I would go with Chappy.

With everything else considered, I'd go Trengove as he has the fire.

Boak over Treggers - only on being a couple of years older and if Treggers was captain it could 'encourage' him to go overboard with the aggression when; flying the flag, drawing lines in the sand, not taking a backward step, take no prisoners etc...

I am not convinced that Boak will offer us anything different to Cassisi. He's right down my list at the minute.

I like the sounds of Porthosworld.

Now that he's lost his fairy wings, i'd like to throw up the name of Troy Chaplin. He's got that "face of the club" quality about him, and now that he's not desperately avoiding contests, he is the kind of player people will look at and hopefully follow into battle.

He was mentioned as a future captain in his younger years, but since his polaxing of Daniel Rich and the subsequent 2 seasons of being afraid of contests, he's been rightfully quickly forgotten about.

I think with his performances and attitude and physicality he'd make a great captain, and he's pretty vocal out there as well.

I picked ebert, just ahead of jackson.

Would of picked boak if asked @ the start of the year, but his head space doesn't seem right atm....

Honestly thought Boak was ready to step up and take this team places, but has not ignited like many thought, Brad has been exceptional, does all the team things and looks the most natural, he has my vote

I voted bradbert mainly due to workrate/intensity. This is something the whole squad needs massive improvement in. Brad "walks the walk".

Now, on brad, Boak was on 5cc a couple of weeks ago saying that brad is the benchmark and that's what the others aim form. Well trav, I wouldn't be talking so glowingly about brad if I were u, I'd be alarmed that no one on the list is close to him. No disrespect to brad, but he was dropped by wce for the finals. What does that say about where the rest of the list is at....Oops sorry guys I'm ranting, our stats have improved, move along, there's nothing to see here....

On Jackson, he'd also make a good captain. He is a great leader on field. Off field he consistently fronts up to the radio mic after another abysmal loss. I was listening last night to double crow and they said a port player would be on, said to my wife i bet itll be Jackson. And it was. Well done jacko
