Don't need to check - Rucci will be all over it
If the AFL haven't defined "SANFL games" in their rule, surely the SANFL get to determine what is and isn't an SANFL Game? Like, what they record in their official "SANFL games played" statistic, for example.

Also, we missed out on Gibbs because his dad only played 191 SANFL games between 1984 and 1990. Only needed 9 more games and he would have been ours, apparently. But 191 games is an average of 27.3 games a year, in a league with 22 home and away games (20 in 1990) and up to 4 finals games. Are we so sure Escort Cup games aren't included?

Sure, this relies on the AFL to do Adelaide a solid. So it's not a lock. But it should be.

Will the AFL announce who the eligible father sons are for 2022 soon? When do these normally get announced?

Defender with some attacking flair. Could grow into 6 foot four player like his dad. Played as key back but will Need to grow a few more cm to do this at AFL. Has some footy IQ. Can take a good grab on first viewing. Good physique
Cheers bigman!
always looks forward to your views

Bad news on the Max Michalanney front.

Accordingly to (mainly) Hard Ball Get, Jim Michalanney was in the best players or goal kickers for 13 NFL (ie Escort Cup-esque) matches (1 of 2 in 1976, 3 of 4 in 1977, 2 of 2 in 1978, 2 of 4 in 1979, 1 of 1 in 1982, 2 of 2 in 1983, 2 of 2 in 1985). Meaning the most SANFL matches he could have played in the actual SANFL was 198.

Norwood played in a further 8 NFL games where Jim could have played but wasn't in the best players or goal kickers. So it could have been as low as 190 SANFL games.

Boooooo!

Seen Mark Stevens son posted on Crows academy insta page. One to track on top of Tyler Welsh.

Bugger.

Well, Scorpus warned us about the 1970s NFL series.

Max Michalanney
Norwood/SA

Defender, 190cm, 70kg

Adelaide father-son prospect

Michalanney qualifies as Crows father-son prospect after his dad, Norwood great Jim, played 211 SANFL games for the Redlegs between 1974 and 1986. And the versatile, mid-sized defender, with a nice turn of speed, is one who will receive plenty of attention in 2022.

Michalanney, who reads the play well and is very composed, can play taller than his height suggests and was the sixth-ranked player for intercept possessions at SANFL under-18 level last season.

Maybe Jim’s 211 sanfl games don’t include the Escort cup and night games
Someone looked into it in depth on Big Footy earlier in the year when Max started to show talent and they were almost certain it was another "Gibbs" scenario so I wouldn't be getting my hopes up.

Not getting my hopes up, but I’m asking the question if there’s been a change where escort cup games have been removed from official counts and that’s why they are saying he qualifies, could explain it.

If the analysis was just taking off those games played then that would be wrong if what I’m querying happened.

Surely it can't be that we simply have checked carefully enough? Again?

We?

As in the AFC?

I would think if he was eligible Twomey (AFL) would have looked into his eligibility and mentioned it in AFL articles once he started to look to be a sound draft prospect. Dan Batten, Jordan Pinto and Matt Turner aren't AFL, they're journos.

This is the exact rule as it is written in the 2021 AFL Rules

The Adelaide Football Club may include a person on its Primary List if that person’s father played 200 or more Senior Matches (being either home and away or finals series matches) at one of the following clubs prior to but not including, 1991:

(A) Norwood Football Club;
(B) Glenelg Football Club;
(C) Sturt Football Club; or
(D) South Adelaide Football Club.

So the question is do the night series matches count as "senior matches"?

Yes. They do.

I dont even know why its being raised as an issue. He represented Norwood. Thats all that should count.

No. It specifies "home and away or finals series". The night series matches are neither.

It's the same as pre-season games not counting towards AFL match tallies.

But are night finals matches counted as "Senior Matches (being either home and away or finals series matches)"?

Norwood played a bunch of them in the 70s, I think 8 in total

Of course I would be arguing to the AFL that they are based on the wording of the rule. They are senior matches, and they are in a finals series. It might be a technicality but I'd be looking into it

Aside from Gibbs, with this bs 200 game rule, is there anyone else we could have got?
A pair of Corneses if we didn't sack Graham for Robert Shaw until 1 year later.
