And people worry about what we're paying Rory Lobb...

McKay is still being grossly overpaid, but it honestly wasn't a "bad" move by Essendon. Their list is dogshit, they've basically got nobody to pay in 2024 so why not overpay a couple of overrated free agents with front loaded contracts to at least improve things a bit without harming your long term prospects? It's gonna be another decade before they're winning a final regardless, but might as well try make yourselves a little more competitive in the meantime

The $740k p.a. McKay will make in the remaining 5 years is still ridiculous money for someone of his level, even in the new CBA. They do create the problem of what happens when current players are coming out of contract and they want similar money to McKay, Gresham etc…

I hope it's alot longer then a decade before they regain relevance.

No issue with doing that. It’s what enabled us to drag Boyd across in 2014. It’s perfectly logical.

The big issue in my mind is that he just isn’t that good and it puts a target on his back (which apparently happened to some extent with Boyd).

Bad signal to send to the rest of the group (particularly stalwarts) that an average backman can be the highest paid player in the comp while they just get what they get.

This, basically means they can’t expect any of their actual good players to take discounts when a mediocre backman has been paid a fortune.

here's a question: did the swans get as much crap for Barry Hall getting to play in their premiership as they, and others, give to the bulldogs for the free kick count? Maybe the swans supporters are happy to be able to deflect some of that criticism onto the bulldogs.

If Pert and Goodwin keep insisting about how incredible the Dees culcha is, maybe one day it will come true.
Poor winners is all you need to know about the culture of Melbourne. Mocking the Bulldogs before they even left the ground that day. The great clubs don’t do that, only insecure clubs that can’t back it up do.

I have read that recently there is an "epidemic" of adult ADHD and a massive increase in medication for this condition.

However, curiously there seems to be no rise let alone a tsunami of adult medicated ADHD adults collapsing and pouring into the EDs of hospitals around Australia.

Poor old Oliver must be very, very unlucky.

If Melbourne had been drug tested after the 2021 Grand Final, we might not have this nonsense now.
IF the AFL was serious about integrity and fairness THAN declaring the 2021 grand final null and void would be the night move in light of the Demons having so many demons.

Yes and no. ADHD is being diagnosed and treated far more than it has been previously, but the media often portray this as the prevalence rising / people diagnosing or prescribing carelessly. These may be partly true, but the main contributor is that we have underdiagnosed ADHD for many, many, many years - partly due to stigma and a lack of understanding. We are still not quite there, but we are starting to catch a lot more adults who have suffered throughout their life. Stimulant medication is one of the more life changing symptom-altering treatments we have for cognitive/psychological conditions, so it's no great surprise those with ADHD are becoming more medicated.

Anyway, all of this gets missed in the media's thirst for a headline - "epidemic" sounds bad but interesting. Correcting lifelong suffering is much better and more accurate but generates less clicks.

To your last point - the problem is that alcohol and stimulants do not mix. It depends on the specific medication but I would hazard a guess that old mate should not even be drinking.
