It is in Hobart so you would want to try and get a result. Will be a few sessions probably rained out. So while Voges would have liked to he has to think about time remaining and weather.

Also Im pretty certain in his captaincy already he declared when he had a high score or he had a high score and just still played ridiculous shots due to wanting runs quickly and not caring about the milestone and got out.

I'm absolutely filthy. Day two of a test match. Going over 5 runs an over. No time pressure. Voges is 36 years old and probably won't get another chance. Voges isn't an ego.

I think Australia went too early on Smith as captain. I don't know who else could do it, but in my opinion he appears to be acting a bit immature- trying to impose himself on the game and make himself a reputation? Honestly though, I do think that for the sake of the team he would declare rather than reach the personal milestone.

The thing I find most annoying is that declaring wasn't for the good of the team. At the rate they were going at lunch on day 2 nothing negative would have happened ie. making the test match end in a draw. If australia had an extra 50 runs that would not have hurt anything.

Next he will be attending sports Awards functions with a silly hairstyle in a suit made from his mum's curtains!

Interesting point of view. If they went too early on Smiffy as Captain, who else could do it? Don't think Davey Warner is quite ready, and most others are too green or establishing themselves. It's a team sport, the goal is to win the match, not breaking records or personal milestones. Team comes first, selfless play, here to win. Well done Smiffy, he leads by example. Think our footy team has the same mantra.

That was some serious shooting. A lot of those shots were well outside the 3 point line
Going for and sinking the 3 point shot after he stole the ball with about 5.50 left in the third was just taking the piss. Great to watch but even the crowd was a little shocked when he put it up.

Absolutely bizarre cricket stat:

Fast bowler Tim Southee (NZ) has played a total of 45 test matches, has an average of 17 and an aggregate run total of 1152. In those games he has hit 55 sixes.

Flamboyant opener Dave Warner (Aus) has played a total of 47 tests, has an average of 50, and a run total of 4305. In those games he has hit 41 sixes.

Southee has scored 29% of his total test career runs from sixes.

Woosha can't be happy about this:

New Essendon chairman Lindsay Tanner is determined to bring ousted Bombers coach James Hird back into the fold after officially taking over the presidential reins from Paul Little on Monday night.

Hird, who resigned as Essendon coach with three games remaining of the 2015 season, has had little contact with the club since his dramatic exit in mid-August following the supplements saga and a season of poor performances. But Tanner said he would reach out to Hird as soon as practical.

Tanner said he would respect Hird's wishes "to be allowed a bit of time and space and choice about how things unfold", but that he deserved credit for the way he handled what might have been a messy departure.

Then you get this:

Fundamental to Essendon's rebirth is the appointment of Worsfold as coach, a process in which Tanner was heavily involved. Already a fan of the former West Coast premiership captain and coach, the interview stage only increased the new chairman's admiration. But Worsfold's appointment in effect killed two birds with one stone, Tanner firm in his belief the Bombers have as a club been too insular for too long.

"I think one of Essendon's great failings over its long history has been the propensity to want to breed our own too much, and it's not an accident that the deliverer of our success in the modern era was a ruthless Richmond guy like Kevin Sheedy," he says.

"The thing that struck me about John was that he's not just a football leader, he's a leader full stop. I came away from the interview process thinking this guy has been underestimated by the Victorian football public, because he's been a bit out of sight over in the west.

"He was captain of West Coast at 22, and a dual premiership captain at a time there were some once-in-a-generation stars running around for that club. Yet he was the acknowledged leader. That's pretty unusual, and I think that tells you a lot about the bloke. He's a guy well suited to the set of challenges we've got."

That club is still in trouble. They allowed the "Hird did nuffin wrong" crowd to continue for too long, and now the club have their backs against the wall where they want to move on and put that whole little whoopsie incident of hiring a guy because he can sell a membership or 2 but have a large section of the supporter base still blinded that Hird did nothing wrong and should not have been moved on.

Then the Jobe Brownlow comment...why would you say it? Why even go there? "I know these are the rules but if we have been found to break the rules the penalty shouldn't be applied for (insert usual dopers response) as to why they were doping. Even if he gets to keep it after the potential guilty verdict. Wow what an award to hold on to given what has been found.
