Over the past month, James Kelly has been gathering 26½ touches (13 contested), 8 tackles, 6 inside 50's and 6½ center clearances per game.
He's also does the one percenters which usually go unnoticed like most of the selfless & non-flashy in the comp.

He made it onto the bench in this year's all Australian team and did not get much notice from the umpires at all in season 2011, well...only 6 votes:thumbsd:

Am somewhat happy he didn't get much notice from the brownlow medal count because he'll come out this Saturday and put together a truly brilliant performance and hopefully get talked upon in the same class as Ablett, Hayes, Judd, Swan, Watson, Murphy, Cooney, Del Santo, Mitchell and Kerr just to name a select few.
Cat fans certainly aren't surprised but those who fancy a favorite for the Norm Smith would be, $11

Feels like the 27 year old has been around for yonks yet somehow the loss of Ablett has brought out the very best of Kelly.

Re: Kelly for Norm Smith

Not sure if Johnson, Hodge, Chappy and Pendlebury were the favourites prior to the respective GFs. It's a lot uncertain to decide a Norm Smith compared to deciding a Brownlow.
Kelly is a chance. But I just hope everyone put team first, their own performances second.

were talking about Kelly and the Geelong football club man, not Ablett jnr nor a Dale Thomas/Alan Didak from Collingwood:thumbsu:

Re: Kelly for Norm Smith

For something a little different I'm backing Al 'Bundy' Christensen for the Norm. Has a first year player ever been best afield in the Big One before?

Maurice Rioli in 1982 - Tigers. Ironic as Bundy is quite similar in playing style to Maurice

Odds on Bundy must be like 150/1

He'd be a strong chance for the vest, if Johnson makes the final team, I would have thought. In fact, I'd just about have him pegged as the favourite to be sub in that scenario.

Re: Kelly for Norm Smith

I rekon Selwood is overdue for a massive one on the big stage.

But having said that, norm smith favourites dont usually win it, Ablett was fav in all 3 appearances but never got it - someone unexpected always stands up on grand final day.

I have heard a few tip Varcoe as a smokey from a few people.
But the way our boys are playing it could be any of the 22 that win it, such is the team nature of the Cats now!!

Re: Kelly for Norm Smith

i certainly wouldn't have thought Bundy would be wearing the vest if Stevie plays. More like Duncan i would've thought but you never know. If shagga plays he'll be wearing it i reckon.
If the Cats get up my money will be on Sel or Kel thats for sure. Mackie as my smokey

Re: Kelly for Norm Smith

Scarlett @ $51 i reckon is not bad, he's been close in a couple.

Same price as Leigh Brown

Re: Kelly for Norm Smith

I'll tip Joel Corey. Seems to be going under the radar while Kelly, Selwood, Bartel and Chapman are the focus.

A Geelong win with a Pendlebury or Swan medal would be fitting with the season so far though.

I will pick up $340 if Ottens wins the medal, so I'm hoping he does!

Aside from him though, Selwood and Chapman are obvious choices. Chapman is such a big game player, I can't see him playing a bad game on Saturday.

I think Chappy will become the 3rd player behind Ayres and McLeod to win two Norm Smith medals.

The bloke kicks butt in finals, and loves playing against the Pies.

I too think hawkins, would like to see him play a blinder and wreck packs all day, if not then pods. Hope both take superman pills that day and crash everything in site (as long as no cats in their way)

Bundy is my smoky...something in Christensen's eyes just shows dedication and hardness...perfect for a GF.
Otherwise, Chappy or Kelly as my "main" picks, with Bartel & Selwood the obvious ones, therefore I'm not picking them :)

I tend to go for the value bets. I'm on Enright (he's probably got about four BOGs this year and it's not the umpires voting for the NS) and Ottens (for pretty obvious reasons).
