Keep that smarmy campaigner away from our joint.

At any cost.

Interested in the thinking behind this one TPA.

Regardless of Johnson's perceived rep around the AFL, the man has an almost peerless career as a midsized forward.

He's kicked over 500 goals and is one of only 56~ people to do that, ever

He's played in multiple premierships and has proven big game experience

He was thought of highly enough by GWS that they poached him to come up and has arguably played a hand in turning Toby Greene into a smaller version of himself and probably the best mid-sized forward in the competition

By all reports he's a pretty good influence on a very young side and has contributed strongly to keeping them in the hunt for their first flag just 5 years after their inception

If Jy, Wags, Garns, Wood, Turner etc etc had five years of specialist coaching from Johnson I fail to see how that's a bad thing. At all

"He was definitely wanted by three clubs and he is committed to wanting to go down that path," Johnson's manager Craig Kelly told AFL.com.au.

"People have identified when they've met with him that he gets it and he understands it.

"He knows he's got developing and stuff he needs to do, and the reality is he's going to have to do that when he finishes because he just hasn't got enough time at the moment.

"He will better himself again and he will be in a club environment and a coaching position when his footy finishes."

Johnson has been below his best this season, booting six goals and averaging 10-year lows in disposals (16), tackles (2) and inside 50s (2.5) from his six games.

Like Mitchell, he has completed extensive training to make a quick transition into coaching, including the Next Coach Program with coaching veteran David Wheadon.

Kelly, whose company TLA Australia manages 16 assistant coaches and six senior coaches, said Johnson had the rare knack for explaining how he does what he does on the field.

"The things Stevie keeps talking to me about are keeping the group enthused in the drills and developing skills in fun and interactive ways," Kelly said.

"Some of those freaky guys don't know how to articulate what and how they do what they do. Stevie actually can.

"That's the difference with him."

He has a fantastic playing record.

He has been portrayed as some sort of magician on the field, which I disagree with.

Just don't rate the bloke highly.

Would rather the players you mentioned continue to learn from Boomer on how to get the job done.

Not sure about this. Don't know him from a bar of soap, but from a distance he seems too much about himself to be a good coach.

I thought the GWS got him up there to coach in some role when he finished?

This, more than his playing career by itself, is what is appealing if the rumour is true.

I'm not enamoured of him personally either, but given the Kelly comments regarding his ability to teach, I wonder how that compares with Boomer.

I haven't heard that Boomer is exceptional in this regard. I'm not saying he isn't, but is it a particular strength?

Good.

We should also be making offers to Hodge.

Added to my "to do" list for Wednesday's kinder drop-off.

It's only fair anyway after I coached his son in a kicking drill at Auskick this morning.

No doubting his footy credentials, but has always seemed selfish, self-centred and ill disciplined, which are not good attributes for a coach.

Not if his son goes on to be an awesome father/son pick up for the Hawks. Sure, he sired the kid, but who taught him to kick? That's right, TT! Just another way NMFC gets shafted.
