What does he bowl like? Big hitter? Don't know much about him.
Huge hitter, explosive, can tear teams apart. Averaging 40 in ODD with a SR of 100. He's got the ability to hit out from ball 1, doesn't need time to settle at the crease, and he hits the ball about as cleanly as anyone going around. His bowling development will also be a big plus for him, average down to 31 now, constantly taking wickets. Is expensive but will take wickets. Bowls medium fast, probably about the 135 kph mark and can also bowl a very effective yorker.

Watson, D.Hussey, M.Hussey, White, Paine, Ferguson, Marsh, Christian, Lee, Starc, Tait

Ponting, Clark, Haddin, Smith and McKay to rotate through, and to keep pressure on the players in the starting XI.

P.S. Clark and Ponting to have a light summer because of Clarks back and Ponting always complaining about his schedule, well give him some time off and rest for the WC

and the order of the players is not necessarily the batting order

just bowl tait 2 over spells, 4 or 5 of those each match he plays.

He bowled similarly in the last world cup with McGrath coming in first change. It worked bloody well and if we can balance it with a line and length bowler to replace him it will work well...should work well...

Awesome team, hopefully they go with this.

It is so strange that we look so good in odi cricket however our test team looks below average at present. I would bat Hussey at 5 over Clarke moving him to 6 as we only get 50 overs (obviously) so we want the best batsmen who can score runs as quickly as possible facing the most amount of balls. Clarke at 6 still gives him an opportunities to score runs either quickly or rebuild an innings if the opportunity presents itself.

Shane Watson
Tim Paine
Brad Hodge
Callum Ferguson
Cameron White
Michael Hussey
Daniel Christian
Steve Smith
Ryan Harris
Brett Lee
Shaun Tait

Aaron Finch
George Bailey
Xavier Doherty
Clint McKay

And before anyone says it, I know it wont happen.

If Tait is fit he will be going to the WC. Watch Taits One day form in England this year. He was on fire. He will get a few games in the one day team before the world cup.

Watson
Haddin
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
White
Christian/Smith
Johnson/Bollinger
Lee
Harris
Doherty

EDIT: That's my full strength team. No idea what they'll do about resting players. I'd lmagine Ferguson and Marsh will get a lot of games.

That is the side I'd go with.

I don't understand why Smith would be in the world cup team? He bats at 7 or 8 and then only bowls 3 or maybe 4 overs, having no affect on the game. Is he just there for his feilding? If he's not good enough to bat in the top 6 or bowl ten overs when he has to then he shouldn't be in. I'm all for giving him a go every now and then, but I don't see where he'd fit into our world cup side.

This is probably more what I'd like to see, considering theres no way Ponting won't be there and Haddin will be playing in front of Paine if he's anywhere near fit such is the way things are. Left out Hodge, because it just isn't going to happen, despite the fact that it should. Michael Clarke was also left out, but he'll always be in the team.

Shaun Marsh (done well when given the opportunity, in pretty good form, could bat at 3 depending on where Watson is better suited)
Tim Paine (excellent keeper and a good batsman)
Shane Watson (gun batsman and very handy with the ball)
Callum Ferguson (very good one day batsman who should be given a go)
Michael Hussey (getting on, but still getting it done especially in ODI's)
Cameron White (ideal big hitter to close out an innings, probable captain)
Steve Smith (good batsman, excellent fielder, handy bowler - should be in team)
Ryan Harris (has shown that he can be a very effective bower at international level)
Brett Lee (bowling very well at state level, hopefully translates into international level)
Xavier Doherty (his test performances shouldn't come into it. Best one day bowler in Aus)
Mitchell Starc (a young Mitchell Johnson)

------------
12. Ferguson
13. Paine
14. Christian / Smith
15. McKay

Paine has just tipped Marsh for a spot; we'll want a backup keeper and Paine has proven handy with bat in ODI's.
I don't think Bollinger and Hilfenhaus should go to the world cup, not the best ODI bowlers. I'd pick McKay in the starting line up and take Starc (is he playing ODD for NSW?) or any of the other seamers mentioned in here, but we know Mitch is untouchable. Doherty would have been my first choice spinner had Hauritz rightfully been picked for the tests, but he now needs to come back strongly in ODD and ODI's before the world cup and show his confidence hasn't been shattered.

Watson
Haddin
Ponting
White
Clarke
Hussey
Smith
Lee
Harris
McKay
Doherty

Clarke at 5 is the rebuilder/knocker-around during the middle overs. Hussey is the finisher. Smith will hopefully hit a few run-a-ball 30s, 40s and 50s towards the end of the innings. Ferguson and Marsh are the next batsmen in line, Christian the next allrounder.

Attack of Lee (always has been a gun 50 over bowler, and still is), McKay (another fantastic ODI bowler), Harris, and Doherty, with Smith and Watson to be the "5th bowler", and Clarke and White to roll their arms over occasionally. Backup pacemen are Johnson, Dougie, Tait (fitness pending) and Starc (also fitness pending).

Ponting *
Hodge

Smith
Lee
McKay
Doherty
Bollinger

12-15: Harris, Johnson, Marsh, Ferguson.

Skimming through the thread I might be in the minority who really rate both Bollinger and McKay. Assuming Bollinger's fit he should play, averages 22 at 4.3 an over, been a very good performer for us. McKay's short form bowling is also great, has a great slower ball.

ODI Team/World Cup Squad

Haddin
Ponting
Clarke
White
Hussey
Christian
Doherty
Lee
Harris
Tait?

Ferguson
Johnson
Paine
Smith

Im Tait's biggest fan but I worry about how he will perform on the Sub continent. The slow pitches there can really bring him back to the field pace wise, and his fielding is a liability which is only really worth it when he is terrorizing the top order with his pace. For those non believers, Taits strike rate is better than Brett Lee's and there Averages are almost exactly the same.

I'm backing Johnson to find his form, his lower order hitting gives him the edge over the other quick's in my mind.

I feel that Paine and Shaun Marsh are similar limited over players, but Paine has the advantage with the Gloves

Christian is a lock, gives us that lower order hitting that almost exclusively falls on Cameron White. I also would consider playing Smith instead of Doherty, which would give our batsman the freedom to take more risks because we have recognized batsman until 8.

Too me there are going to be some very unlucky cricketers at the end of the summer, especially bowlers. Any of Mckay, Siddle, Bollinger and Hauritz would be right to feel angry for their omissions.

Potential Bolters for the World Cup Squad at least.
David Hussey, his middle order hitting and spin bowling would give Ponting another bowling option.

David Warner, The most devastating batsman in the country, If he makes some runs the ODD Cup it would be hard for selectors to ignore him.

Brad Hodge, If Clarke or Ponting happened to get injured, the selectors could do worse than swallow their pride and give Hodge a game.

Because the next world cup is in the subcontinent. You have 3 pace bowlers and your frontline spinner, along with Watson and Smith. It's a perfect mix.

1. Watson
2. Haddin
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. White
6. Hussey
7. Smith
8. Lee
9. [insert end of summer form spinner here]
10. Tait
11. Bollinger

12. Harris
13. Johnson
14. Marsh
15. Christian
16. Ferguson

Honestly couldn't cut the squad down to 15. Someone will be very unlucky to miss out.

I actually find it quite amusing at how stable and how strong our ODI side is on paper, and how poor our Test side is.

Tait won't get through anymore than 4 overs. Not worth the risk at all IMO. Harris and Lee with the new pill will cause some real damage while Tait will just bowl wides and be off injured after 2 overs.
When has he done that at ODI level for Australia?

He has been a successful one day bowler.

Saying anything else is unfair and ridiculously incorrect mate.

Problem is it just never happens, he hasn't even played cricket this summer FFS. He needs to get through some Ryobi cup games before he will even be considered for Australia.
I agree that he needs to play some cricket and find match form + fitness before being considered for international selection this summer. That much is common sense.
But when he's fit he is a successful weapon. He's a proven match winner at 20/20 and ODI level.

I've had enough of the guy and his decision to quit the longer stuff and I do think he's weak of character in many aspects but they are his decisions, I suppose and he's entitled to them. His body for some reason fails him with alarming ease.
