Stenglein was your VC and was exactly the sort of player we needed: a defensive midfielder who could shut down an opposition gun.

We had a real need for a guy like Stinger and in the end, we traded draft picks. We didn't cough up Butler or Waters for Stinger, so why would they be on the table for Perrie?

Where would Perrie play?

Hansen is our CHF and Perrie is not a top drawer FF due to his kicking.

We have Embley across HF and no shortage of talls in the mix for the other forward spots.

I just don't think Perrie is good enough to persuade us to trade Waters or Butler, especially when we refused to offer them in return for Stenglein, who we actually needed.
Sorry Stenglein was NEVER our VC.

Secondly, you lot have changed your tune dramatrically since last season. This time last year, just like Perrie, Stenglein was not someone you needed or wanted and you wouldn't trade more than a 2nd rounder for him.

I never said we want Waters or Butler for Perrie. I am sure we would push for them but I am not sure we woud get them. Why do people always assume that only 2 clubs are involved in a trade? There are such things as multiple team trades.

Bottom line is, you lot under-estimate Perrie just like you under-estimated Stinger this time last year.

You laughed when people said that Stinger was consistently in our top 5 in the B&F and in fact came 2nd last year. I am pretty confident that Sarge will come top 6 this year in a side that ended up with minor premiership by winning 17 games.

Pretty good return from an "average" player I would have though ;)

I can't speak for the other WC supporters, but I was very happy to get Stinger without losing a player. I knew that he would add something to our midfield.

I just don't think Perrie would add nearly as much as what Stinger has.

I could be wrong, but we have a glut of younger tall forwards. Some of them won't make it, but if we were going to trade for a key forward, I'd want one who's a little more dynamic and dangerous around goals than Perrie.

We have a CHF, and really, that's where Perrie plays for the Crows.

I don't want to say that WC definitely aren't interested in Perrie, but you have suggest a realistic trade in order for WC supporters to consider how much they want Perrie.

At the moment, WC supporters are just talking him down because they don't want to lose a highly-rated youngster for someone like Perrie.

I have a feeling this is going to be messy.

Please Eagles fans, remember what we were saying about Stenglein.

They are different types of players and Stinger does get under oppositions guards (which partly covers us not rating him super highly) but I am sure we are doing the same with Perrie.

Okay lets play your game:

Pro stats

Contested Marks, Goals, Contested Possesions, Inside 50s are all very close. You would agree that they would be the most important stats for a forward?

Is Perrie better? Yes.
Has Perrie played more games? Yes.
Is Perrie older? Yes.
Is Perrie a specialist forward? Yes.

Is Perrie worth bending over backward for? No.

Does Perrie have a shocking kick on him?.......................................YES :D

Its good to see a poster who has learned his lesson :p

Re: Perrie has told the WA clubs he wants to come home.

I am not sure how much we can read into this but John Reid was interviewed on CH7 news tonight and one of the things mentioned is that clubs #1 piority now is to re-sign Ian Perrie.

To me this is all going down the same path as last year with Stinger.

Start talking about getting Waters/ Butler and I will be in here quicker than George Bush :p

Re: Perrie has told the WA clubs he wants to come home.

To be honest I don't know why the WCE supporters are getting all defensive. I would much rather do a trade with Fremantle that if the opportunity arrived, includes Pavlich.

What I find really funny is that WC have a very poor forward line that is masked by a crumbing forward pocket and a class midfield.

You may have an opportunity to pick up a tall marking half forward who applies a huge amount of defensive pressure and has the ability to kick a bag of goals.

He wont cost you the world, but he will cost a decent player whether it's from you or from someone else in a three or four way deal.

I always rated Stinger.

This is a weird discussion because WC supporters can only really discuss Perrie in terms of what we would give up in return for him.

At this stage, I haven't heard any realistic suggestions of what WC might offer to get Perrie to the club.

I'm not interested in trading Waters. Period.

And I don't think we need Perrie enough to offer Butler in a straight swap.

Tell me where Perrie would play for WC. We have Hansen at CHF, with Embley and Waters to play on the flanks next year.

We need a FF and Perrie is a HF. He's not dangerous around goals and he doesn't convert enough set shots. That's just what I think.

This discussion will go round and round in circles until someone can tell me specifically where Perrie would play at WC and what WC would have to give up to get him.

Until then, we're just pitting one perception against another:

"Perrie's good".

"No he's not".

Round and round we go.

How about coming off the bench/playing as 3rd target at H/F or FP/leading up the ground with stints at CHF. (like he did this year)

Kicking 35 goals, having 60 odd shots on goal, taking 123 marks (including equal 7th highest number of contested marks in the comp).

(Note: I don't want him to go anyway).

The point is, not many teams play one guy at CHF for every minute of every game, and one guy at FF for every minute of every game. Ken McGregor is our CHF, but Perrie has been a great target up forward this year.

And, if he plays for your team, you get to hear Dermie going on about him all the time!!!

Thats exactly what happened with Stinger. We pondered why we needed him and how we would fit him into the midfield. I always rated him but didnt think we needed him badly enough to trade enough to satisfy the crows.

And to be honest, Perrie isnt super high on my priorities (kicking is an issue) either but that doesnt mean eagles supporters can come here and bag him.

I don't buy that.

We clearly need a tagger. How long did it take you to figure that out?

Re: Perrie has told the WA clubs he wants to come home.

Let me stat for the record that I think Perrie is a good player (and BTW I did support the pickup of Stenglein). The problem I have is that I don't how much he would add to the team.

As the Crows supporters have said themselves he plays on the HF line because he kicking is too unreliable for FF.

We don't need another CHF or HFF. We need a FF.

Well, it's obvious you have an opinion on him, Why not try telling us what you would be prepared to offer for him and we'll say yay or nay.

IMO Perrie would be your best forward apart from Hansen (Lynch would be a superstar if he only had a brain and Gardiner is a ruckman)

If we can't strike a deal involving Perrie and draft picks for Pavlich then I'd involve Daniel McConnell (sp) in a 3 way trade for a quality SA youngster in Victoria. He supposedly wants to go home so why not involve him?

Perrie + Adelaide 2nd Rounder---> WC
McConnell ---> Victoria
Quality SA Lad + Victorian Club's First Rounder ---> Adelaide

I dont want to get into a slanging match with you. I knew we needed a tagger, just like the rest of Australia, however myself and others didnt think that a tagger was worth any more than a 2nd round pick. We were proved wrong but I still think we paid slightly over the odds.

And for the record, if we wanted him, I think our 1st round pick is the most likely trade. Its going to be close to pick 20 anyway.

Great deal for the Crows and WC.

Now which Vic club would be stupid enough to do it?

In all honesty though you should give your second rounder to the Vic club. An overall Perrie in, McConnell out would be a steal of WC.

Perrie---> WC
McConnell+ Adelaide 2nd Rounder ---> Melbourne
Quality SA Lad + Melbourne First Rounder ---> Adelaide

Something like that.

Thing is, McConnell was pick 3 (if I'm not mistaken) in the 2003 draft and is still extremely highly rated back in Vic. I'd be happy keeping our second rounder but I wouldn't think WC would enjoy relinquishing a kid with potentially 10 years quality football left in him for a bloke who (whilst being in his prime) probably only has another 3-4 years of good footy left in him.

Didn't think that was fair, as WC supporters might want to compare him to gun forwards they will trade for, from clubs that didn't make the finals. Like Tarrant. Or clubs whose key forwards don't stand up in finals.

You're mistaken.

McConnell was pick 26.

Hansen, at 22, is far more valuable at CHF than Perrie would be.

I wouldn't play Perrie at FF either. His kicking for goal is too suspect.

WC need a gun FF and Perrie is not that player.

If he doesn't meet our specific needs, how much should we really part with to get him?
